(125 Posts)
JustineBMumsnet (MNHQ) Tue 24-Sep-19 18:49:12

Here at MNHQ, it's census time again! This survey is open to everyone!

It's really useful to us to find out a bit more about the people who use Mumsnet.

As a thank you for completing the census, all who complete the survey and leave their details at the end will be entered into a prize draw where they could win one of the following 5 vouchers*:

- 1 x £200 voucher

- 2 x £100 vouchers

- 2 x £50 vouchers

All responses are confidential and no individual details will be passed on to any third parties.

Please click here to complete the survey

Thanks and good luck!

Insight Terms and Conditions apply

*although the survey is open to (and we'd love to hear from) everyone, we're only able to supply vouchers to be used with UK retailers.

FreiasBathtub Tue 24-Sep-19 19:20:41

Done! Is there a reason that the whole thing appears on a single page? This always buggers up responses on my phone as soon as I hit the first free text question.

Seeline Wed 25-Sep-19 10:24:56

Tried to complete. Got to the end of the first page (Q16) pressed continue and it cleared all my answers and returned to the top of the page!

FiveShelties Wed 25-Sep-19 10:26:01

Yes me too - on a laptop

Mabelface Wed 25-Sep-19 10:38:12

Tap off the text box when you've completed it and it doesn't scroll back up then.

hookiwooki Wed 25-Sep-19 11:36:11

That was really hard work to fill in @MNHQ.

Everyone I checked a box on a blue bar the page scrolled back to the top and then I lost some of my responses. It also checked random boxes for me confused

catsmother Wed 25-Sep-19 13:00:40

On the mobile app and I've given up. It kept taking me several steps back up the list each time I replied, meaning I had to constantly scroll back to the current question and then wouldn't let me move onto the next stage as it insisted an answer was required for a number of questions even when I'd already answered. And that was just on page one! Maybe I'll try later on the desktop but have completely wasted 10 mins....

Will our answers to your census be in any way linked to our account on here?

I’d like to fill in the census but I know I’m not the only MNer with privacy concerns after a previous breach, so an answer to this would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance HQ. gin

The question about online videos was curiously limited in its scope. Do you really imagine (hope? fear?) that Mumsnetters are primarily interested in parenting, fashion, cookery and housework? hmm

DoctorAllcome Thu 26-Sep-19 17:20:15

Can vouchers be sent to a friend in the U.K.?

DoctorAllcome Thu 26-Sep-19 17:28:47

Never mind. I got as far as the health questions and punched out. Just felt it was too intrusive even for an anonymous survey.

BeyondAvoidant Thu 26-Sep-19 17:42:25

Urgh, I'm an idiot - filled the whole thing in, the final page refreshed so I had to do it again, then I hit send without filling in my name!! 🙄

Knittedfairies Thu 26-Sep-19 19:44:05

I give up; I kept getting 'this question requires an answer' even though I'd answered. (iPad)

vouchers for what shops? Need to know if it is worth my time.

MoaningMinniee Fri 27-Sep-19 17:35:47

You wanted to know if I have a car. I don't. But I do have five works vans now. There were several other closed questions like that too.

Done. children in family/household is a tricky one. I have children - they are in my family, but not in my household. I chose to include them. May skew your results.

Done and done smile

BackforGood Sat 28-Sep-19 00:42:52

It won't let me move on to the next page as it says Q20 MUST HAVE an answer, but there is no option on Q20 to say 'none of above' hmm so there is no box I can tick.

I've looked at this and it's so nosey. Do you really think I'm going to give you my postcode and tell you how much my family earns, if we own a property etc
No chance

wildcherries Sat 28-Sep-19 21:20:03

cinderellainyellakissedafella Agreed. On second thought, am relieved it didn't work for me. It was very intrusive, and I was only on the first page.

Abi58 Sat 28-Sep-19 21:50:25

Completed, although as I pressed submit I noticed my phone had changed my email to .con instead of .com but it's too long to go back and redo,.... MNHQ will this be noticed and amended if I need to be contacted?

BackforGood Sat 28-Sep-19 23:38:59

Am impressed that 3 different posters have managed to get threads deleted on a thread about filling in a survey grin

Done. Although I had to write about Feminist Chat being my favourite part in the Others / free text fields because there was nothing about feminism in any of the options.

BeyondAvoidant Sun 29-Sep-19 10:08:51

Same here empress. Btw was it just me not reading properly, or was there no reference to sexuality at all - despite every other possible area being covered in excruciating detail? confused

I tried to do it on the mobile and the page kept scrolling up to the top, or not accepting tickes, or both.
On a PC, it's fine.

mathanxiety Tue 01-Oct-19 06:26:15

Tried this on the Android app and almost lost the will to live.

As a pp said, it scrolled itself way back to one of the earliest questions every time I answered further questions.

I had to abandon it in the end. Life is too short.

Sorry if you lost your place—we're working hard to get things up and running again. Thanks for your patience

Not doing it all again!

xJune88 Fri 04-Oct-19 14:18:30

Given up. Keeps scrolling me back up to question 9 after every answer I give.

OhYouBadBadKitten Sat 05-Oct-19 08:34:54

With such personal questions being asked, I'm not sure I'm happy with the privacy policy. Surely there needs to be a specific clause about the census? It's nothing like the usual surveys etc - it creates a very detailed picture of each respondent. I'd like to know exactly how this data is used and for how long it is kept.

Queenest Sat 05-Oct-19 10:21:14

Me too ^^

KipperTheFrog Sat 05-Oct-19 16:41:54

Done, but why was healthcare/nhs not on the jobs list? NHS is one of the UK’s biggest employers!

WeShouldOpenABar Sun 06-Oct-19 16:53:48

Done. Agree with people saying various questions had glaring gaps and important missing issues.

Giving first part of my postcode is a pretty huge geographical area so didn't feel question about eg property all that intrusive.

Couldn't give a recognisable to me picture of family/household/income/care/disability/ethnicity across family with this set of questions.

PickedByYou Tue 08-Oct-19 04:33:07

^ It's really useful to us to find out a bit more about the people who use Mumsnet^

Why is it useful? What are you using the info for. Is it primarily used to help attract advertisers?

I don't think it's a good idea to ask for such personal and detailed info from people and just brush it off as useful

PickedByYou Tue 08-Oct-19 04:56:19

Lol sorry posted too soon. I meant that I'd like to know what you will be using for?

Done, but ….

The question about online videos was curiously limited in its scope. Do you really imagine (hope? fear?) that Mumsnetters are primarily interested in parenting, fashion, cookery and housework?

Just what I thought. If I watch videos on youtube or twitter, they're mainly about film, politics, atheism and veganism.

Also, why are teachers and lecturers placed in a lower category than doctors and lawyers? They're all graduate professions. If you're going to make fine distinctions, then something like headteachers, senior consultants and judges in one category with other members of the education, medical and legal professions in a lower category.

Some of the questions looked designed to help Mumsnet understand the membership and improve the website but others (eg are you planning to redecorate) looked as if they were just being compiled to sell off data.

violetbunny Sun 20-Oct-19 00:57:19

Maybe it's just me, but in 2019 it really irks me as a person of mixed heritage that under "Ethnicity" I can't just check all the boxes that apply. Instead I have to check "Other" and then write "White and Chinese".

You may as well just label the box "You're the odd one out, so insert your own description here"angry
