Done. The biggest changes DH and I have had to factor in haven't been to do with our personal circumstances, but because the goalposts have been moved for both the state pension and our company schemes which we have paid into since the 80's. Bitter.

Done - agree with the ever changing goalposts and uncertain economic future having an impact.

Done. Nhs pension but uncertain on retirement age etc as I’m in my 30s so it’ll increase before I get there I’m sure!

Done. The issue with my pension is that I was led to believe that I would suffer a lower public sector level of pay and but be able to retire after 40 years service. Now I will have to work well beyond that.

Done. The main thing we worry about is we both work in nhs mental health and I truly cannot imagine doing this work into my 60s. It's annoying that once upon a time the NHS also agreed with this and paid mental health officer status to people knowing that it's unrealistic you can work in certain environments beyond a certain age but they got rid of that.

Done but I couldn't get the expenses bit to work. Too fiddly.

Also, no category for people who don't work, aren't looking for work and who have grown up kids. I'm not a SAHP, I'm not a career and I'm not unemployed.

Done. My pension planning is pretty good, but that's because I started aged 22. It saddens me that I have many friends and colleagues in their 40s who have nothing at all, as I don't trust the government to pay the state pension out at all.

pah - pensions, bitter changes - loss of Final Salary to career average and now the loss of that too.....pensions are shit.

I've increased pension payments recently as I had a pay rise. I'm 34 with a one year old.

I think the current advice is pretty terrible - the whole 'you should have saved £100,000 by the time you're 30' myth is completely designed to cause stress at a time when young people can't even get on the property ladder. Surely better advice would be whether it's instead useful to concentrate on getting a mortgage first before worrying about a pension?

Done - have been paying into public sector pension since I was 23 (now 34), so I’m not especially worried. I’ll be 51 when youngest DC is 21, so as my pension age is 68, that gives me a further 17 years to whack up my pension contributions after DC finish uni (in theory). Barring job losses/changes etc, which I can’t foresee.

This sounds crass, but I don’t mean it that way - I know you can’t guarantee inheritance, but it is reasonably likely that we will inherit a lump sum big enough to clear any remaining mortgage. Obviously it depends on a number of factors!
