We want to know your thoughts about advertising - in particular how advertisers could improve in their marketing to people over the age of 50.

I also have a child in primary school and I'm not retired. That survey seems a bit stuck in the past - I don't know anyone who's retired at 50 except my next door neighbour who's a fireman. The rest of us are still slogging away.

I didn't think it was a good survey either - not least as it seems to be treating a particular age group as 'other'

Also, on nuts and bolts it needs some more n/a options. Not everyone is on FB or listens to the radio

Totally agree with previous comments- I'm 52 and still a full time working parent of a primary school son. Why do I now have to be officially "old". Bollocks!

I was a bit worried that if I filled it in, I'd be inundated with little boxes on my screen selling me stair-lifts.

The stair-lift/care home thing is interesting. Many of us here are going to be thinking about caring for/providing for elderly relatives (as well as caring for children), rather than our own care. There didn't seem any awareness of that in the survey. Which was kind of ironic. That went hand in hand with the 'Gransnet' username question. I doubt I'll be a Gran for another ten years.

So I agree with the other poster who pointed out a distinct lack of nuance in the survey.

I'm fed up with the adverts for will making, mobility aids, life insurance, vitamins for mature people with white teeth and perfect crows feet, and saga holidays, which now pop up all over the laptop when I'm on it.

It makes me feel old, when I'm not!

Yes absolutely thecat. I'm going to have to start thinking of that kind of thing for my parents who are in their 80s quite soon I'm sure.

As a 52 year old, my concerns over the next 10 years are university fees, paying off the mortgage and trying to fit in regular exercise. Pretty much like most parents of school aged children. And I am not unusual - of all my friends of a similar age, only 2 have children who are old enough for university. The rest of us are still nagging about homework!

Drives me crazy! The minute you hit 50, the postman brings an endless supply of waste paper for the recycling bin; Damart, Hotter, Saga Holidays, Sun Life Funeral plans, over 50's equity release schemes, dubious 'health related' gadgets, health screenings, cholesterol lowering foods, stair and bath lifts, mobility scooters, etc, etc.
Most of the 50+'s I know are caring for their own children, some their grandchildren, also their elderly relatives, and doing paid work, which they will still be doing into their late 60's.
Patronising is the the politest word. I can think of some more that are ruder ones, but I am too much of an old lady to use them.

It seems that you are reinforcing some kind of artificial category of woman, no one in my circle around my age would consider themselves defined by their age.

Why does the survey have an age bracket of under 50 - I hope you don't put those ones in the prize draw.

I'm torn on this - I'm a granny but I have a young kid too, I spend all my money and work full-time as I think there's no point in saving for something that might never happen, I do feel I am old, but I still buy all the things younger women buy . . . I'm an advertiser's nightmare really.

It might have been useful if the survey had recorded the ages of any children you might have - because that definitely impacts on the answers you give.

I couldn't do the survey as I don't live in the UK. But absolutely agree with pp about being plagued by adverts for stairlifts and the like. Today I got an invitation through the post to sample "fine dining" in a local upmarket retirement home. FGS, I'm not even 55! I've got two teenagers and am doing an MA.

I am 50, primary aged kid, and parents still going strong and not yet needing any of the things survey talks about.

Also where it asked for how you respond to certain ads, eg on facebook, there is no option to say you are not on facebook/don't listen to radio with ads on etc
