Itax headlice treatment feedback

Hi all

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to test out Itax a new non-chemical programme of head lice lotion spray (2 treatments per bottle RRP £11.99) and soothing 'anti-itching' shampoo (150ml RRP £9.99).

If you weren't one of the volunteers for the product trial, but have already bought and used Itax, please feel free to add your thoughts too.

So, what did you think of it? What was it like to use and did it work? How did it compare to other nit treatments you had used (if any) ?

Yes, I've already tried Itax.

The comb they supplied (a white and red plastic one) is rubbish and you should use a Nitty Gritty comb.

I think it did its stuff in killing lots of lice (on my DSS2). But you really need to condition and comb to get the last buggers out.

In résumé: Itax is a good initial treatment for a heavy infestation.

I think that the comb that comes with Itax is probably reasonably effective on thick/coarse Latin hair.

Just complete crap on fine Anglo-Saxon hair.

I put first application on DD age 9 and DS age 4 last night.

I found the spray application to be very good, was impressed with that, much better than a slippery oily bottle! Found it easy to coat hair as well. DD said it stung when first sprayed onto her head but that it stopped stinging when I massaged it into her scalp.

DS didn't ocmplain of any stinging feeling, so DD may have just been a drama queen.

The smell wasn't great but frankly, if it works, I don't care how it smells.

Combed out (using bug buster comb) after an hour as instructed.

Got 3 dead nits out of DS's short, fair hair and could see that there were no more in his hair.

Got about 8 from DD, but 2 were still alive and happily crawling around on the kitchen paper.

I found DD's thick, shoulder length hair quite dry this morning, but if its nit free I can cope with her having dry hair. It will be worth it.

Will re-apply next week and report back to feedback thread.

Hi i did recieve mine and i think it was great stuff. My dd2 has really thick hair and the spray worked so much better on hers that the oily lotions have in the past.

I used the nitty comb after an hour and the few nits she had were all dead so was a bonus. Normally there are a few of the crwetins still fighting!

Should we need again which im sure i will as dd3 only 2 so when she goes to school im sure it will all begin again. I will def use itax. And i'll recommned too. Buit think you need the nitty comb too to really combat nits/eggs.

Surely all mumsnetters know poundshop conditioner and a nitty gritty is the way forward?

It works for us, I do it every friday, plus I do a quick sweep with a plastic comb every night in the bath.

we sprayed on Weds night for the first time. Will let you know...After the hour, I got lots out, but they were baby ones so it was impssoble to see if they were moving or not.

Very easy to use, though ds's hair is so thick, we used half already.
I didn't get a comb with mine.
Luckily we have millions. Combs and nits

ds didn't like the smell, but it seemed to work and much less stressful to wash out afterwards than FullMarks. will report back in another week to see whether the buggers have really gone. Or not.

No comb with my pack. Really easy to apply. The shampoo for inbetween treatments is really super on dd1s straw like hair.
I will be buying the shampoo again for sure.
Made it easy to comb, made all the knots drop out so going through with the nit comb was easy.

No comb here either. Spray definitely easier for those of us whose children aren't the most co-operative but I probably should have used more - difficult to judge how much is in the can when it's got to go round a number of them & do 2 treatments. It worked better on the children with fewer headlice than DT2 (she must be the lice equivalent of chocolate). The shampoo was really nice, though and I had more success combing again with the Nitty Gritty comb after I'd washed their hair. We don't like the oily treatments, they're such a pain to wash out so this was better. Whether I'd actually buy it, I'm less sure. When compared with the cost of normal conditioner over several children the marginal benefit of slightly better eradication and no particular time advantage it won't be worth it unless it's very competitively priced.

Well i will be using later on today on my dd, so will post later, but i can guess already that a spray will be much much easier to use.

I have used it, it was much easler being a spray and absorbed into the hair easily. It did pong but then all headlice medication does, my dd said it was itchy.

I must be getting quite good at this combing lark as i only actually got 1 dead lice, didn't see any eggs though, but i had pulled quite a few out this morning, the shampoo was nice to use, but i don't think a bottle would go that far and it is expensive.

Have done both treatments now.

Easy to apply - but stung DS2 who has eczema.

When I brushed DS1's hair prior to nit combing it the dead lice rained out!! There weren't many left when I nitty gritty combed it. There were 3 live lice left on DS2 - but none on DS1. Masses of eggs came out when I combed and the DSs said that it hurt less than in usually does.

After the second dose, there were no more lice and very few eggs left on each child.

I was impressed - but I would always use it in conjunction with a nitty gritty comb.

They both appreciated the soothing shampoo.

I would use it again.
