Find out what testers thought of Surcare’s sensitive laundry detergent

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who have been testing products from Surcare’s sensitive range. Testers tried either the laundry liquid or the laundry capsules, as well as Surcare's fabric conditioner and washing up liquid.

This is what Surcare has to say: ‘We are excited for Mumsnetters to try our sensitive laundry detergent as although we have been around for over 30 years and have a really loyal customer base, we want to spread the Surcare secret far and wide! With eczema cases rising more than 40% in just four years*, we knew we had a responsibility to educate people about some of the chemicals and fragrances found in their washing products. This is particularly relevant when you consider that the onset of eczema and other skin conditions often begins in infancy, so protecting delicate baby skin is crucial. We have spent 30 years perfecting our family of cleaning products so that you can do the everyday with less worry. People often think they’re compromising when they use ‘sensitive’ products, however our range has great cleaning power even on cool and quick washes. We really hope you enjoy using it and can’t wait to hear what you think’

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the questions below on this thread, as well as completing the survey we have emailed you

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?
2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky tester will win a £100 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?

I tried the laundry detergent and really liked it. It was sensitive enough not to aggravate my daughter’s eczema but yet removed stains.

I liked the fact that it removed a stain that I didn’t think would budge but yet wasn’t harsh on skin.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?
Capsules. The detergent cleaned surprisingly well and it's so gentle on my DS's eczema prone skin! I'm used to my laundry products having a slight scent though, even non-bio smells cleaner when it comes out of the machine, however this had no scent whatsoever.
2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
That I didn't have to worry about harsh chemicals on my DS's skin.
3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
It done the job but I'd prefer a slight scent.
4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?
Washed the dishes without any problems but again, I'm used to a move scent whilst washing up but this doesn't effect the performance!
5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?
My DS's skin was less irritated than usual.

I tested the detergent capsules. On the whole they work just as well as our usual brand for a quick light wash. What I liked most is the fact that they work well enough at 30c.
For an everyday, lightly soiled wash, they are great. However, I’m married to a chef, and need to keep his whites white! They did really well considering they don’t contain enzymes, but a few stains remain. A quick rewash with an added stain powder did the trick tho. Now that I know this I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up whilst shopping, but I don’t think I’d permanently switch.
We also received the fabric softener. I used it each wash with the detergent, and I made sure I used the recommended amount as I can be heavy handed. I’m sorry to say it’s not for us. Although I didn’t notice any difference in softness, I just didn’t like it. My 4yr old daughter kept asking why things didn’t smell like ‘home’.
The washing up liquid is definitely going on the shopping list tho!! Amazing! A little goes a long way, and bonus for not stinking out my kitchen!!
I’m not a fan of overpowering smells while I wash up, so this is perfect! Added bonus that the price is on par with others too!
I can’t say for sure that it has helped with sensitive skin, but certainly hasn’t made it any worse, so that’s a win!
Overall the brand is good value and does as it’s meant to without the use of harsh enzymes, fragrance and acids, which is a good thing.
Would I recommend?
Yes I would. If you have sensitive skin, it’s priced well enough to give it a try. Some brands that say are kind to skin can be quite expensive, especially if you have a family and do a lot of laundry.

2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?

It smelt lovely and was great to wash the baby clothes in

3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?

  1. I tested the Surcare sensitive laundry Liquid

  1. I was not impressed at all by it as I had to used a lot as it didn't seem to show any bubbles whilst washing. Did not have a nice fragrance.

3.The fabric conditioner made the clothes feel nice and soft but lacking on the fragrance.

  1. The Surcare Washing Liquid was really good plenty of bubbles and worked very well on greasy plates and the biggest plus for me was it was very gentle on my hands and I will be buying it again as I did think the bottle seemed to last a long time.

  1. I didn't notice any difference on my partner eczema but I did notice the difference using the washing up Liquid on my hands they was a lot less dry after using Surcare Washing Liquid.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?

I tested the capsules. They worked brilliantly at cleaning our clothes, towels, bedding etc, even at low temps. They are definitely great for sensitive skin, much better than I expected as well as being better than the large well known brand I usually use.

2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?

I'm most impressed at the cleaning power of the little capsule and at how much gentler it was on sensitive skin.

3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?

It has been lovely using a fabric softener again, as we usually avoid it due to my daughter's sensitive skin. It works well at making clothes soft and didn't cause any irritation for my daughter.

4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?

I was very happily surprised with the improvement of my skin after washing up. I use a dishwasher for the majority of dishwashing, but do some by items by hand, and my skin is very dry and tight after doing so. I'd usually slather intensive moisturiser on, but didn't really need to use it with Surcare. The pans were cleaned very well too, maybe not quite as quickly as the harsher products I usually would use, but I think I'm going to swap to Surcare to save my hands from aging with all the chemicals.

5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?

As above, I definitely saw a big difference in my hands by using the Surcare washing up liquid. I'd say there has been a good improvement in the sensitivity of my daughter's skin with less itching and scratching, especially at night time when she is usually most irritated.

3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?

I really liked the fabric softener. My clothes felt softer than normal so it works really well.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?

I used liquid - it was fantastic in terms of not flaring up anyone's eczema or psoriasis - trying anything new is normally a big no. I liked that there was no fragrance - things just smelled clean. That said it just wasn't great at stain removal and extra treatments like vanish etc do flare our skin. Maybe because we have hard water, but if I could find a way to boost the cleaning power - or if I had less mucky children maybe - I'd swap.

2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
The fact that it wasn't fragrances and just how gentle it was.

3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
This I loved, it didn't clog up the dispenser drawer, softened clothes beautifully and again everything just smelled clean, thankfully nor perfumed. It's already on my list for next week's shopping.

4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?
It was lovely and gentle (I never remember to wear marigolds) but I only handwash big pots that can't go in the dishwasher and it didn't have enough oomph to get those clean without a fair heft of elbow.

5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?
Yes, no one's skin worsened, which is what I expect. Both boys have patches of eczema that are clearing nicely. My hands didn't flare at all despite washing up.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?
Capsules. They washed well. They were quite convenient to just throw in the machine but I prefer using powder so I can adjust how much I put in depending on load size.

2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
Ease of use, washed well, nice smell and lack of chemicals.

3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
It was nice, although I don't usually use fabric conditioner as don't find it necessary. It didn't make a huge difference to clothes.

4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?
It was good, bubbled up, cleans and it lasts really well. My hands do seem less dry than usual.

5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?
My hands do seem to be less dry so washing up liquid seems to be better than usual stuff. I'm not sure the washing capsules made any improvement to our skin but none of us had any skin flare ups after using it which is good.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?

4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?

I didn't find it as effective as the brand I normally use so I wouldn't purchase it again. I had to use a lot more so have gotten through it much more quickly than expected.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?
I tested the capsules. I thought they did a fantastic job probably better than I expected as I usually buy bio washing liquid. Everything came out clean and smelling fresh will definitely buy the detergent again possibly liquid as I tend to prefer the liquid.
2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
I liked that everything came out clean and I particularly liked that my skin hasn't been irritated particularly on wrists and waist
3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
I didn't like the smell in the bottle, thought it smelled of acetone. I wasn't keen on having no fragrance but concede that clothes were soft regardless
4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?
I though the washing up liquid did a good job, no discernible difference to my usual brand. I get dermatitis on my fingers but haven't had problems with this brand
5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?
Yes a big difference which actually surprised me as I thought the extra rinse would remove any trace of detegent and so it wasn't that irritating my skin it apparently was. Will swap detergent definitely and possibly washing up liquid.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?
I tested the capsules. I loved the simple fragrance which made the washing smell fresh. Neither myself (an eczema sufferer) or my children (allergy and eczema sufferers) had any reaction to the detergent.
2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
The simple fresh scent. Not overpowering yet washing still smelt fresh including sportswear.
3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
Very impressed. For the cost I though this was great. Lovely and fresh fragrance but not overpowering. No skin reactions from my sensitive skin suffering family.
4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?
I really loved this product. I was concerned that it would be inferior to other products on things like tough grease, however it was great. Lovely bubbles with no need to use extra liquid and a great price too. Really kind on my skin as I suffer with my hands using other non sensitive washing up liquid brands. I’m converted.
5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?
Yes my hands were noticeably less dry, red and irritated using the washing up liquid. I really loved this product.

1.Which Surcare sensitive laundry detergent did you test (capsules or liquid)? What are your overall thoughts on the detergent?

We tried the laundry capsules, the convenience was great as you just pop them in and drum of the washing machine.

2.What did you like most about the detergent you tried?
It was easy to use, no waste and cleaned our clothes really well. We also loved the cheerful packaging on all the products. .

3.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive fabric conditioner?
It’s really nice, has a subtle scent but does what is needs to and isn’t over fragrances like our usual brand.

4.What are your overall thoughts on Surcare’s sensitive washing up liquid?
This was great, we don’t have a dishwasher so we used it a lot! It creates so many bubbles and everyone that used it commented on how nice it was. My husband gets really bad eczema flare ups on his hands and said his hands were much softer and a lot less irritated (this also encouraged him to wash up a bit more which is a bonus!).

5.Did you notice an improvement to yours or your family member’s sensitive skin after using Surcare sensitive products?
I think our 3 year old son daughter had a lot less dry patches and it appeared to help the patches of eczema on her skin. We are complete converts to the Surcare brand. Thanks so much for the opportunity.
