This is the feedback thread for the 60 Mumsnetters who have been testing Crown easyclean paint. This product test was open to all UK Mumsnet users with at least one child aged 1 to 10.

Here’s what Crown has to say: “With over 50 colours to choose from our easyclean® range has been independently tested for the best stain and scrub resistance. With a no shine finish, washable paint is perfect for busy homes. Easyclean paint can be wiped-clean to keep homes looking their best.”

Selected testers were sent 5L Crown easyclean paint in a colour of their choice and were asked to use the paint to decorate a wall or room in their house.

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions as well as sharing any other thoughts you have. Please also ensure you complete the short survey we’ve emailed to you.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
  2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
  3. Was the paint easy to apply?
  4. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
  5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

All who give their feedback via both the thread and survey will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Went on well, a good consistency to the paint. Not to runny so it spatters everywhere.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Sail white. We wanted something neutral to go with our grey staircase. Happy with it. Easy on the eye.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes went on well with a roller.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

I haven't tried wiping it yet as we only painted at the weekend. But I'm sure with my children it wont be long.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Not a smelly paint, good coverage and hopefully will keep cleaner than the last lot of paint. I'm so fed up of wiping off fingermarks. Yes I'd recommend.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

I thought it was excellent quality paint, that went on well and had a pleasant odour. The paint was extremely well packaged for delivery and arrived in immaculate condition.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Botanical extract which was under the green section but I think it’s more of a pale blue. It was a nice fresh colour.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes and I was very pleased with the results. I used a brush around the edges and a medium roller for the large areas. There were no brush marks or runs.
I also painted a melamine corner unit with the paint because I noted it could be used on other surfaces and the result was excellent.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes, a black mark came off very easily.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes because it goes on well, dries quickly, smells nice and generally does a good job. Plus you can wipe marks off without damaging the paint surface.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint? It was okay, easy to apply. Definitely needed two coats but then coverage was good.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it? Botanical extract. I like the colour but don’t think it was truly represented in the colour chart.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply? Easy, it dried very quickly but that meant you needed to paint quickly especially when rollering to blend the cutting in.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? Kind of. There were no marks on it but I did wipe to see if there was any colour loss. There wasn’t.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Probably yes. I worry it will dry too quickly to paint large areas walls and would recommend a tester pot rather then judging from colour chart.

Very nice consistency, didn't smell overly strong and dried quiet quickly.

  2. Was the paint easy to apply? With a paint pad it was nice and easy.
  3. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? Yes it's in the porch so shoes on shoe rack mark wall occasionally. Worked well.
  4. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Yes, as it can be wiped, lovely colours and it really didn't smell when putting it on the wall and drying.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Good quality, doesn’t drip goes on well but almost dries too quick you have to be careful when rollering over a patch you did just minutes before. The odour wasn’t strong.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Duck egg, loved it, quite warm for a blue.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes as I said before it doesn’t drip and goes on smoothly but it did start to dry straightaway so you needed to be quick and careful not to roll at where you just had.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes! We painted our spare room that’s now an office to cover all the hand prints and of purse there were handprints about two days later! They cleaned off perfectly and no paint came off.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes. I gave really good coverage and was easy to use. It is also great if you have dirty kids!

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

I liked it, although usually I'd choose a silk rather than matt emulsion

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Magnolia, plain, boring and simple

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Very easy. I'll admit that I didn't do it myself, my dad's a retired professional painter and decorator and likes to keep his hand in. He liked it, thought it went on well and gave good coverage.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes, I'm still waiting to fit a splashback behind my cooker so we deliberately did there as I frequently need to wipe off cooking splashes. So far it's looking as good as when it was first done.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

I would, it did what it was supposed to.

.1 What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
I really liked it. It looks really good with a nice finish. Good depth of colour. I haven't need to clean it yet but it looks like it will be good.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it? I used gentle olive. My son picked it for his room. We both really like it, it's bright but not garish.
  2. Was the paint easy to apply? Yes very easy. I applied with a brush. I didn't stir the paint enough to begin with but once I'd done that it went on well. Really good coverage with 2 coats.
  3. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? No I haven't had a reason to yet.
  4. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Yes I would. The colour was lovely and it was really easy to apply, plus with several young children I really like paint you can easily clean rather than having to keep touching up.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

I was impressed. The coverage is great and the quality of the paint is good.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Cloudburst. I liked it because it's a lovely, subtle neutral.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes, it was very easy to apply. Easy to mix and once I started painting the coverage was great.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes. And I can't tell the difference from the parts where I have wiped off stains (from sticky fingers).

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Absolutely. It was easy to use, didn't have a horrid smell and the coverage was great. I'm liking the results when I have to wipe off stains.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

It was great. A nice consistency so it was easy to paint with. It looks good on our living room walls. There was a decent choice of colours to choose from. Also good to know that it is easy clean.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

We wanted a pale grey for our living room and so chose Seldom Seen. When we first opened the tin it looked like it would be white, but once it was on the walls we could see that it was exactly what we wanted.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes very easy. We used a paintbrush and went over it with a roller and it looked like a professional had applied it. Photo is how it looks with 2 coats.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

I was a bit reluctant to mark our newly painted walls, but I did use a coloured pencil and tried wiping it off. It came off with a bit of water and washing up detergent. Good to know it does what it says on the tin (literally).
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes, I’d recommend it. Even though the main selling point is that it’s easy to clean, it’s also a good quality paint with a nice finish. I feel confident that it will look good for a few years in our family room.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Really nice consistency, no strong smell, good coverage , could have got a way with one coat as wasn't a big colour change.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it? Sail white , just what I was looking for white with a hint of grey undertone.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply? Yes , both with the roller and brush when cutting in.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? Yes , I painted a high traffic area so did a little tester myself with a grubby toddler hand helper and it wiped off easily !

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Yes definitely, great colour choices easy to apply and the wipe clean aspect will keep it looking nice for years , I will definitely have to repurchase to go over some other grubby walls in my house that were only painted within the last couple of years.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint? I really liked it. I don’t use crown normally but I would certainly buy it again.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it? Botanical extract. I love it! The colour looks very different at various times of the day. I would say in some lights it looks blueish so similar to a previous poster said it is not what I expected from the chart. But I actually prefer it.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply? Yes 2 coats required but went on well, good coverage and didn’t take long.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? Luckily no!

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Yes I would. I like the colour and thought the coverage was good. Was easy to apply and the room looks great too.

Thanks for letting me test it.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Went on easily...And didn’t smell overpowering in hall/stairs/landing. Lovely colour and good finish.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Delicate Cream....it was a more yellow colour than the previous coloured walls, Linen, and had a nice glow.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Very easy to apply and seemed to go a long way. Lots left over for any touch ups in the future.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes, with a damp sponge. Paint stayed put and didn’t mark the wall.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Absolutely! And I already have! This paint seems much more hard wearing for removing children’s/pets’/everyones’ hand prints and grubby marks, and will keep my hall looking good for longer.

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

Went on easily and seemed to cover all the old blemishes and discoloured sections of wall (where photos used to hang etc). Easy to wash out of the paint brush and roller too so that was good.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Ivory Cream - similar to what we have in a lot of the house. We like it because it is a neutral colour that goes well with all our furniture. Usually colours like this get grubby quickly with the kids around - hence we LOVE that it is wipeclean and doesn't need to be a gloss-style kitchen or bathroom paint which used to be the only wipeclean ones we found before.

  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes. Needed two coats but that seems to be the norm for most paints.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Haven't needed to but just to be able to answer this question, have literally just tried and it works! Wipes well without lifting the paint off.

  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

yes! Better than non-wipeable paints when you have kids with grubby hands, also its important to me to be able to rinse the paint out of my rollers and that was good too. pic attached to show colour.

. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint? I liked the coverage. It was easy to apply without dripping and gave a good cover with only 1coat! I didn't think the colour matched the sample colour on the front of the tin. The colour I chose was described as a grey however was bright white!

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it? Seldom seen. Should be light grey but very bright white.
  2. Was the paint easy to apply? Very easy with no dripping and good coverage.
  3. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean? Yes and wiped well without removing colour.
  4. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why? Yes as it cleans up well but buy a sample pot first to test the colour!

  1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?

We liked it, had great coverage - we were covering a bright blue and could probably have got away with 1 coat had we not decided to do two coats.
  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Canvas white, was a nice off white to cover the awful blue left by previous occupiers of our house!
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes, went on really easily, was a good consistency so didn't drop everywhere.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes, wiped some pencil off and it came off nicely.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes, I think it's a quality paint, useful that it cleans up well when you've two kids! Really pleased with it and we will look for this brand again.

1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
We were really impressed with the coverage, very few paint splashes/drips using a roller, and no odour either, which was perfect to use in our kid's bedroom.
2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?
Our child decided to choose Lavender Cupcake for her bedroom. She was over the moon with the final result! She definitely wanted purple not pink, and it dried really quickly and evenly, and is just what she hoped it would be! The stock photos on the Crown website showing the paint colour were very accurate!
3. Was the paint easy to apply?
Yes, very easy! Surprisingly so, and it impressed us all very much.
4. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?
We've not had a reason to so far, but will give it a go and report back if we have any issues! (somehow, I don't think we will Wink!)
5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?
Yes, because of the paint quality, the coverage it gave and the lack of mess and odour! We know where to go when we need to decorate again, that's for sure!

Thank you to Crown and Mumsnet for choosing us as one of your testers - we have one very happy little girl as a result! Grin

What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
Easy to use.. needed two coats, but really nice. Didn't seem to splash too much, either.

  1. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

Magnolia. Perfect.
  1. Was the paint easy to apply?

Yes. Really easy. The kids helped.. edging was easy. Came out evenly, and the dried finish was really nice.
  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes, and it didn't come off on the cloth. Really great.
  1. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes, if it were at the right price. It's a really nice even finish, and it is SO helpful that it can be wiped. Our breakfast room has a whiteboard on the wall, and the kids often miss the edge, or have a smudged hand leaning on the wall. It's really freshened up the room.

1. What did you think of Crown easyclean paint?
I really like it, very low odour, thick so very few splashes or drips and dried really quickly. Good coverage too, I did give the room two coats but honestly could have got away with one.

2. Which colour did you test and what did you think of it?

I chose Fairy Dust, well my daughter did. It’s a stronger pink than the colour chart would suggest so I’d get a test pot to check the colour before committing to the full tin. In saying that, my daughter is delighted with the end result.

3. Was the paint easy to apply?

Very, the consistency meant it went on without dripping and edging/cutting in was easy. I used brush and roller and the finish is excellent.

  1. Now that you've painted your wall, have you tried wiping the paint clean?

Yes, for the purposes of this review, it wiped clean with a damp cloth and the paint didn’t come away on the cloth as it often does.

5. Would you recommend this product to others? If yes, why?

Yes, it goes on easily, low odour, quick drying and no drips or splatter. I’ve avoided wipe clean paint before now because I don’t like the slightly shiny finish many of them have - this has dried to a nice matt finish and the colour is very even. I’ll be using it in my son’s bedroom next month.

Thanks mumsnet for the opportunity to try this product.
