This is the feedback thread for the 150 Mumsnet users who have been testing Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread. This product test was open to all MNers with at least one child aged 1 to 10.

Here’s what Warburtons have to say: “The Half White Half Wholemeal range not only provides a great way of getting more fibre into the diet, but also makes it easy for busy families to get a third of their daily intake. Vitamin D and calcium are important to ensure a healthy immune system and strong teeth and bones.”

Selected testers were sent a voucher to redeem a free loaf of Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread from their local supermarket, and were asked to try the bread with their family.

I had some with marmite for breakfast, DH had a sandwich at lunch and DS had some bread and butter with dinner.

We were all happy with it; it is very similar to our usual brand of 50/50 bread.

I prefer white bread as do the children but we need the fibre of whole meal so this is a great compromise. I was also pleased about the extra vitamin D.

We all liked the taste and texture of the bread, but it doesn't toast as well as Warburtons white bread, which makes fab toast.

My children say they don't like wholemeal bread, but would eat this, which has sone of the goodness of wholemeal.

I had some toasted with peanut butter. DS1 had some as a cheese sandwich and DS2 toasted with beans.

We were all happy with it. DC commented that the bread tasted different. I said it was new and they didn't complain.

I prefer white bread as do the kids but I would like to eat more wholemeal for the health benefits so this is a happy compromise.

It was soft and tasty. We prefer white bread to wholemeal and this had a similar texture to white bread which is preferred. I like the better nutrition content of wholemeal though.

I am the only one to have eaten it toasted and thought itbwas a little dry even though it was a just bought loaf. Tbh I'd rather have my warburtons toastie loaf.

As sandwiches it was nice. I was worried it would be dry after the toast experience but that was not the case. Tasty.

It was ok, the loaf is a good size for a family. It was a bit bland taste wise, I didn’t think it tasted of much when compared to breads at a similar price point.

I would maybe recommend to someone who has a fussy child and is looking to get extra goodness into their diet. I wouldn’t recommend it otherwise.as I feel it was just ok.

As a family we later tried it as a sandwich with ham and lettuce.

We are really enjoyed it. We thought it was better than other 50/50 brands as it was less moist than them.

1.The children had it as sandwiches in their packed lunch, one had it with butter and marmalade at breakfast, and we also had it to dip into soup.

I found it a bit thin for dipping in soup, I prefer a thicker slice.

We really liked the bread, it was not as stodgy as white, and had most of the qualities of brown, on the whole they liked it (however I did not tell them it was 50/50 with the toast as I knew they would decide they did not like it before they ate it - surprisingly they did)

It was very nice (we all compared it to Kingsmill50/50) the slices were quite thin for a medium sliced bread, however it was very light in texture and you were aware of the wholemeal content.

6 As an extra comment we had great difficulty in getting the Warburtons Half/Half bread. I normally shop at ASDA and Sainsburys neither of my local stores (both large supermarkets) stocked it but my DIL got it for me from a branch of Tesco. I am assuming that in time it will be widely stocked.

I have my vouchers but have been unable to track down a loaf. I have tried my nearest Waitrose, Asda, Tesco and Sainsburys - none of my local stores stocked it.
