This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users with children under 5 who have tested OnceUpon photo books.

Here’s what OnceUpon has to say: “Once Upon is a new way to make photo books. Download the app, add your favourite photos, tell your best stories and watch as Once Upon instantly turns them into a designed book. With Once Upon, it’s easy to create your book filled with special moments – think messy spaghetti face or that time your 5 year old decided to give himself a haircut.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the questions below:

  • What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?
  • What was your book about?
  • How do you like your first OnceUpon book?
  • Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so, what types of books do you have in mind?
  • Did you try the collaboration feature? If yes, what are your thoughts on it?

All testers who give their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?
I really liked how simple the design aspects were. Each page was easy to set up, and it was easy to move the photos about on the page. However it didn't over complicate things like other similar photo book providers- they can end up looking messy.

  • What was your book about?

Our book was about our dc2's first two years, photos we had saved and I liked that you could add a lot of text so you could really go to town with making a story book!
Because these photos were older, they were stored on a hard drive and on my pc so it was quite fiddly to set up- I had to select the ones I wanted and then put them on my google photos and then log into that via the once upon app. It would be much easier to make books as you go, and I will do so in the future!

  • How do you like your first OnceUpon book?

Really beautiful! It's clean and sleek, really good quality printing. I wish I had put more photos in it- it warned us that we would have blank pages at the back though. It's very white- which I like.

  • Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so, what types of books do you have in mind?

Yes, we will make another one with Once Upon after our next big upcoming holiday (and subsequent holidays). Would be super easy to use this app to add holiday photos as they happen!

  • Did you try the collaboration feature? If yes, what are your thoughts on it?

No we didn't, but I've no doubt it would make it really easy to make a lovely holiday photo book with my husband contributing as well.

Thank you so much for this opportunity!

What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?
It was so easy to use, very very user friendly. I have a LOT of photos on my phone so it was difficult to scroll through to the ones I wanted and select them but apart from that the whole interface and ability to move the photos and pages around are just so basic and intuitive, I love it. I read a review of OnceUpon that said you can make beautiful books while breastfeeding your baby and you totally can! Amending and adding to my book also kept me completely distracted on boring bus journeys :) It was fun & I kept going into the App obsessively to tweak it a little bit more.

What was your book about?
I made a book for our family holiday in North Devon in June. It was my 8 month old's first holiday; sea, farm, small children.
I had thought I'd make a memory book of things that happen in the year, with anecdotes and photos added as they happen, but when I got the app I realised that would take too long and if nothing happened that I wanted to record I'd never finish it in time to give feedback.
I used to make homemade photo books after holidays but since our children were born firstly we stopped going on holiday and secondly there isn't time, so it was really nice to have a record of this holiday, especially for my 2 year old who absolutely adored it.

How do you like your first OnceUpon book?
It's fantastic. There are some things I'd change if I was ordering the same book again, like having more full page photos (because they look great & some of my other pages do have a bit too much white border) and maybe making it a bit shorter, but it's a lovely way to develop the photos of our holiday and it's going to be a beautiful memory to look back on in a few years. It's really professionally produced and looks so smart.

Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so, what types of books do you have in mind?
Yes I'd definitely use OnceUpon again!
I would use Once Upon to make little books for my children. I've made my children books before by putting photos in small blank board books and adding basic text (their equivalent of the board book "Mog's Family" and another when we moved house "DD is Moving") and I'd definitely use OnceUpon instead. If they did Board Books too that would be even better!

I also might use OnceUpon to record funny things my kids do, short text accompanied by a photo, to develop into a book at the end of the year, so I can save the memories - my memory is awful so I've been looking for a way of doing that anyway, but don't want to use social media. It's so easy on OnceUpon to upload a photo and add some text to make a page that looks great, which is exactly what I need for that. This book might end up being really expensive though because you can only have one lot of text on one page spread, albeit a lot of text!

I would also use OnceUpon to make another holiday book; the only thing that would stop me would be how expensive it would be with so many pages! It would be nice and easy uploading favourite photos in the evenings of the holiday though and maybe worth factoring in the cost of the holiday ☀️

Did you try the collaboration feature? If yes, what are your thoughts on it?
I didn't try the collaboration feature because I didn't want my partner messing with my lovely book!
I got round the problem of having too many photos to scroll through & load properly in OnceUpon by favouriting my choices in my photo reel and taking photos of the reel on my partner's phone, which made it easier to select the right photos in the OnceUpon App. I do have an excessive number of photos though, especially from the month we went on holiday.

Star Thank you so much for selecting me to try OnceUpon Mumsnet, I had a great time constructing my book and my whole family love looking through it. I tracked it's progress through the delivery network obsessively and now it's here it's beautiful and I treasure it! 🥰

  • What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?

The app allowed me to take my time looking through and selecting photos. It was very simple to use, but it could have been easier if there was an arrange by feature on the google photos; having to scroll through 11 years of photos did get a bit time consuming.

  • What was your book about?

Our book was about our holidays weve taken so far with our children.

  • How do you like your first OnceUpon book?

It's great i was a bit apprehensive with how fast the book came but its really good. Some of the photos where theyve increased in size do have a slight blur but it may have been the phone i was using at the time.

  • Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so, what types of books do you have in mind?

It hasnt inspired me as such but it hasnt put me off. I may make one for our ten year anniversary next year.

  • Did you try the collaboration feature? If yes, what are your thoughts on it?

No, i hadnt realised what that meant until they sent a card with my order, it looks good but dont think its something id use as im a control freak

  • What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?

The app is so user friendly even on a phone. It was great to be able to see the photo and how it would look on the page. It was great that the app saves everything so you can keep going in and out and your pages are still there.

  • What was your book about?

My book was about my baby son who is now 10 months old. My older son has a photo album and so we wanted a keep sake book for our younger son to be able to keep his images from being a newborn.

  • How do you like your first OnceUpon book?

I love the book I cannot believe what great quality it is. I also like the fact that you can write text and put poems or quotes on pages.

  • Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so, what types of books do you have in mind?

Yes I would love to make more books as both my sons get older. They are so much easier and nicer than having photo albums and having to print off pictures. I would also look at giving these as gifts to family members.

  • Did you try the collaboration feature? If yes, what are your thoughts on it?

No, unfortunately I didn't realise this was an option but I would of loved to as my husband has lots of different photos on his phone.

What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?
I liked how easy it was to upload pictures and use on multiple devices, I used on my iPad and iPhone. I also liked how easy it was to arrange the pictures and move the pages up and down.

What was your book about?

My book was about my sonsfirst year. I was meaning to make a photo book of his first year and this gave me the opportunity to do it.

How do you like your first OnceUpon book?
I absolutely loved it, it was fab. I really enjoyed uploading all the pictures of my sons first year and was quite nostalgic for me looking back at the pictures and memories.
The only thing that I would want to be added was to add text on the same page as the pictures, there was too much blank space on some of the pages with just text on them.

Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so what type of books do you have in mind?
Yes and I would definitely use the same company as I was impressed with the finished product. I would like to create more books for my son as he gets older. Maybe a book about our adventures next time.

Did you try the collaboration feature? If so what are your thoughts on it?
No I didn't, I was very conscious on the time limit as I knew I had to do it quickly so I can post feedback, if I had more time I would definitely ask my husband and parents to get involved.

Thank you giving me the opportunity to testing out this product I loved it.

  • What did you like most about using the OnceUpon app?

I like that you can get all your photos from your phone, we all have so many on there but never do anything with them! I found the app quite difficult to use on my phone so swapped to my iPad. It was not too easy to get the pictures in the layout I wanted. I would have liked to be able to caption individual photos not just write an introduction.

  • What was your book about?

Our book was about 2018 and remembering the fun we had.

  • How do you like your first OnceUpon book?

I like the quality but think a choice of background would be good as it seems a bit stark with so much white. I'd also like to see the iron to change the size of some pictures.

  • Did using OnceUpon inspire you to make more photo books? If so, what types of books do you have in mind?

We want to try to make one book a year to remember what happened throughout the year and watch the children grow.

  • Did you try the collaboration feature? If yes, what are your thoughts on it?

We didn't use the collaboration feature!

Hi! Here calling all Yoyo pushchairs owners. We finally decided to get one since we travel every three months on a plane. Do you know if a bugaboo all weather footmuff would fit on it? I really don't want to spend another £90 on one as I have two already! Any advice much appreciated.
