This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested out the free Sky Kids app. Testers had to download the app and have a little play with all of its functions and features; the test was open to all UK MNers who had Sky Kids as part of their Sky package and have at least one child aged 2-10.

Here’s is some information on the app and what Sky has to say: The dedicated Sky Kids app: A world of entertainment for them, peace of mind for you. Featuring:
- Over 5000 episodes on demand
- 17 channels
- Parental controls such as bedtime settings, meaning you can stay in control
- Personal profiles with tailored, age-appropriate content
- Masses of fun and educational games and quizzes for all ages (currently only available on tablet, coming soon to mobile)

I was extremely satisfied and pleasently surprised by the content and ease of use.

I found the app easy to navigate. My son is 6 soon and found it easy enough but needed a little help to locate certain programmes he wants to watch

I liked the way the programmes were grouped into the channel they're shown on and the good amount of episodes on each programme! Great choice of shows

I would definitely recommend the app to friends and family and have done so already

I think the only improvement would be that it was a little easier for the children to find what they like to watch

Overall how satisfied were you with the Sky Kids app? I liked the layout and how easy it was use. However the games crashed constantly and also took a long time to load

• Did both you and your child find the app easy to use and navigate? Very easy to use. Love the swiping between screens. My two year old struggled with it but fine for 5/8 year olds.

We were really satisfied. I had a play and then the children did and we all thought it was a really greay addition to sky. We have now downloaded it on all our devices. Loved how it could be personalised for each child and automatically suggested age appropriate programmes to watch. It was also really simple to use, my 4 year old got the hang of it straight away.

• **Did both you and your child find the app easy to use and navigate?
  

Yes really easy, not too many button to press press to get things to play or to go back. Really clear symbols for play and stop for those not yet reading. Only thing we couldnt find was a search function.

• **What was your favourite feature on the app?
  

The fact that it was personalised for each individual child rather than only having one setting. Loved how simple it was too.

• **Would you recommend the app to your friends and/or family?
  

Yes definitely its brilliant for anyone with kids and will be great when they go round to grans and can watch things they like there.

More so me, my nearly 4 year old struggled a wee bit to find what she wanted but I'm sure with more practice she'll manage fine

The ability to restrict her view to only under 5's. That way she wasn't seeing anything she can't or isn't allowed to access.

Search Function, I appreciate for kids of the ages of my daughter they couldn't use a search but she asked for a specific thing and I would be able to do that for her instead of having to look through manually.

Yes it was very easy to use and find exactly what you are looking for. My 8 year old daughter could use with ease even my 21 month old daughter could navigate her way to her favourite shows.

That they have all the shows under one section. My daughter loves Nickelodeon so she could find her favourite shows all under one section.

Yes I would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Very satisfied with the app me and my 9 year old son could navigate the app easily. He uses it often to watch all his programmes. My favourite feature is you can watch and download your favourite series and episodes. I would definitely recommend the app to friends and family.

That each child can have their own homes page with age appropriate shows. Fab when you have a 9yr old & 1 yr old. From children's view point theirs would be the buddy.

Very, it entertained them in a safe way and the new games section is a great addition.

Yes, both my 3 and 6 year old could use it with ease. The colourful left/right navigations buttons helped and the icons with the characters face on them.

• What was your favourite feature on the app?

I liked the new art/games. My children liked navigating the channels and tried new cartoons they wouldn't normally watch as they knew it was connected to the same channel.

Maybe more games. It would also be good if a few child friendly films could also be included.

Very! We love the sky kids in our house. We've subscribed to sky for a number of years now and only recently when renewing our contract we're we told about the app. We have three children (8, 6 & 4) who all use the app and it seems to cater for each of them ok (although the 4 yr old more so than the 8)

• Did both you and your child find the app easy to use and navigate?

Yes - the children can navigate around the app faster and more easily than me! I found it simple enough though, the games, channels and range of episodes were easy to find.

• What was your favourite feature on the app?

I love the range of programmes available for the children. My 4 yr old loves horrid Henry and Tom and Jerry and can find these easily on sky kids. The app is fun and informative.

I like the games / quizzes and that these are updated regularly, ie spooky quiz for halloween. The activities on the sports section is also good.

• Would you recommend the app to your friends and/or family?

Definitely. I don't think sky have advertised this app as much as they should. We didn't realise we had access to it until recently which is a shame.

Whilst my children don't have a lot of screen time, this tends to be what they watch when they do have it - they enjoy both the games and range of episodes.

• Do you think anything could be improved on the app?

Much of the content on the app is tailored abit more to the younger age group and my 8yr old doesn't really use it as much as the others.

Parental controls are a good idea, but wish they were abit easier to find!

Pretty satisified. My daughter enjoyed using it as there is a lot of content which she enjoys on there. There’s also a few things that we don’t have access to elsewhere like Stick Man and the Gruffalo.

Fairly tricky to navigate the homepage. She likes the character buttons but the rest of the page looks a bit of a jumble.

I loved the app, my little one also loved it and I found rather than putting a film on for her for an hour in the afternoon, she enjoyed watching sky kids more on her tablet. Which freed up the tv for me to watch some day time tv for the first time in ages.
The app itself was very easy to use and allowed both me and my child to use it with ease.
My favourite feature was that each show was accessible and my little one could chose the show she wanted to watch without having to watch 4 or 5 shows on normal tv before she got to her favourite one.
I would certainly recommend this app to my friends and family and ive already had 2 of my friends sign up for their little ones to use.
I cannot think of anything to improve this, its great.

My 4 year old son really enjoyed using the Sky kids app on his Kindle Fire tablet. We both found it very easy to use, and because of all the pictures, my son was easily able to find all his favourite programmes.

I would recommend this app to other Sky users with kids, as I feel it's safe for my son to use, and keeps him entertained.

Time limit! Being in control of that is great. I would never put a tv in my daughter's bedroom but this the app is good as she can watch kids programmes but not excessively and I can watch grown up tv!!
