We recruited Mumsnet users to test out free credit report provider TotallyMoney Testers signed up to TotallyMoney to find out their credit score and look at what has affected it over the years. They then browsed the TotallyMoney site to see credit cards, loans, and mortgages they could be accepted for based on their credit score, as well as tips on how to improve their credit score.

Here’s what TotallyMoney has to say: “TotallyMoney is a Free Credit Report provider, which aims to make consumer credit fairer and more transparent by giving customers the information they need to make the right choices.

Until recently, our customers didn't really know why their credit score changed, meaning they had little idea of what they could do to make it better. What's more, our customers didn't know whether they were eligible for a credit product: their only option was to apply and hope they would be accepted. This was a problem, because being rejected for credit can make it much harder to get accepted for credit in the future.

Now, thanks to our Free Credit Report, that’s a thing of the past. Your Free Credit Report lets you track your credit score and gives you reasons why your credit score has changed, so you know what you need to do to improve it. Your Free Credit Report also comes with Borrowing Power: one number to show the best offers for your credit profile — offers you're most likely to get accepted for, helping reduce your chances of being rejected.

But, why else should you sign up to TotallyMoney? TotallyMoney is free and always will be — and 97%* of customers would recommend us to improve their credit score. Our service is easy to use and understand, we’re the highest rated Free Credit Report provider on Trustpilot, and we're Moneynet’s Best Credit Report Provider 2018.”

If you’d like to find out your credit score and how to improve it click here to sign up to TotallyMoney.

All selected testers who leave their feedback on this thread will receive a £10 voucher of their choice (from a list) for taking part AND will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three £100 vouchers.

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How did you find the overall experience of using TotallyMoney?
  • How did you find the sign-up process?
  • Which aspects of the TotallyMoney site do you like the most? And which were most useful to you?
  • What did you think of your Borrowing Power?
  • How did you find TotallyMoney’s recommendations for products (e.g credit card/mortgages)?
  • How has your knowledge of your financial situation changed?

-My overall experience of using TotallyMoney was very positive. It’s a quick useful service. Very important to keep track of credit score.

  • The sign-up process was incredibly easy. It took about 2 minutes and I didn’t have to add hard to find data, just name, email , how long at current address etc.
  • My favourite aspect of the TotallyMoney site is bring able to view my credit score and who has recently searched my record. This is probably the most useful bit for me at present.
  • What did you think of your Borrowing Power? At 8.5 it was classed as Excellent which is fine by me- I’d be interested on what you do to get a score of 10!
  • TotallyMoney’s recommendations for products were good, a variety of deals and very clear and well organised.
  • I’d say my knowledge of my financial situation hasn’t changed much as I don’t have a lot of accounts and I’m very good at keeping tabs on everything. But reassuring nevertheless to keep an eye on credit score and view new deals.

I must say I'm very impressed! The whole sign up progress was incredibly quick and simple. Once registered, I was able to see my credit score and everything around it, including old accounts, how much is owed, where I've moved from, all kinds of information that I wouldn't have remembered! I really liked the "borrowing power" section. It gives u a far more accurate idea of how likely u are to be approved out of 10, mine doesn't look great but atleast I know now! I like that it gives u potential options for credit based on your situation without doing a credit check. The site itself is smooth and easy to navigate. It's easy to find information. I've seen a lot more about my credit history than i would have previously it's really opened my eyes and I feel I've actually gained a lot more information and can look to make improvements in certain areas based on the information I've found through totally money's site, so thank u very much and I look forward to keeping an eye on my credit situation over the coming months!

  • How did you find the overall experience of using TotallyMoney?

Overall totally money was extremely easy to use and navigate, well laid out, visually appealing and extremely user-friendly

  • How did you find the sign-up process?

The signup process was a lot quicker than I thought, and not as in depth as I thought it would be. Initially I was concerned about the types of information I would have to give, and the length of time it would take however my expectations were exceeded. I do feel slightly concerned at how little information I had to give to be able to view a lot of my personal information.

  • Which aspects of the TotallyMoney site do you like the most? And which were most useful to you?

I like that I was able to actually see the debts I still hold all in order, & learning that there is actually ways I can increase my score, which I didn’t think possible.

  • What did you think of your Borrowing Power?

It was where I expected to be, not good at all 😂 However I liked the fact there was also a positive on the page about increasing my power

  • How did you find TotallyMoney’s recommendations for products (e.g credit card/mortgages)?

Loads better than I’ve seen on other sides! There was services I hadn’t heard of before that won’t cost me anything but will help my score when I save, & I will be taking up this offer! It was honest, & didn’t give me any options that I’d still end up being declined from.

  • How has your knowledge of your financial situation changed?

I wouldn’t say my knowledge has changed, I was aware that I am currently in a very poor financial situation and the service confirmed that however it has enlightened me to the fact that there is ways I can improve my score without taking out credit etc

The sign up process was easy and clear.
I like the fact you can see your options and credit file instantly and its all so clear!.
Borrowing power was a little unexpected, it seemed lower than I would have thought given the history and details shown.
Good recommendations but a bit of a surprise.
Has changed my view towards my financial situation, am feeling reassured in the results and found it really interesting.
I would continue to use the service and recommend to others too.

Really good, so easy to navigate, really user friendly, easy to find everything. I was really impressed.
- How did you find the sign-up process?
Super speedy and easy, only took a few minutes and didn't go as in depth as I thought actually.
- Which aspects of the TotallyMoney site do you like the most? And which were most useful to you?
It's pleasing to the eye, it's not complicated, I think the site flows really nicely. It's useful to be able to look back on stuff I probably wouldn't even have remembered.
- What did you think of your Borrowing Power?
Seems ok, as good as I'd have expected I think.
- How did you find TotallyMoney’s recommendations for products (e.g credit card/mortgages)?
Easy to read and follow, everything is explained really clearly.
- How has your knowledge of your financial situation changed?
My credit score was much lower than expected considering I've never had bad debt and not had any financial problems, I'd be interested to see how it changes over the years now I know how to improve it. Would be nice to see a history of how it's changed if that's at all possible.

I was very impressed with this website. It's very clearly laid out & easy to navigate.
It was quick & a very simple process to register my details & view my credit report.
I have always been good with juggling finances so it was good to know my credit score reflected this.
It was useful to have all the borrowing info in one place and again clearly laid out so you can see percentage wise how likely it is that you will be accepted.
All round a great website that's easy to use & simply formatted. I will definitely be using this again to check my report and if I need a loan/credit card etc. Then I would definitely look here first.

  • How did you find the overall experience of using TotallyMoney?

Really easy and straightforward. It’s not mumbled financial jargon it’s relatively easy to understand where I’ve gone wrong in the past with credit issues.

  • How did you find the sign-up process?

So so so easy. Much easier than other credit score sites, but it’s a little disconcerting how easy it was to see every bit of financial information on me.

  • Which aspects of the TotallyMoney site do you like the most? And which were most useful to you?

I really enjoyed following the graphs on my credit cards and seeing how it went up and down and then eventually just kept going down (when I was good at paying things off rather than buying) but also i could pinpoint exactly where I went ‘wrong’ with my borrowing. The detail was amazing. I also didn’t realise I was linked to so many addresses so being able to see that clearly was extremely useful to me.

  • What did you think of your Borrowing Power?

I could do much much better but it’s not as a bad as I thought it would be.

  • How did you find TotallyMoney’s recommendations for products (e.g credit card/mortgages)?

To be honest I wasn’t expecting anything great but the offers tailored to me aren’t that bad, I have options should I need them and that’s the main thing. But I’ll keep working on my score until it gets better and then get better deals. It’s good that it sort of warns you if you’ll be accepted or not so I know it won’t damage my report if I apply.

  • How has your knowledge of your financial situation changed?

I feel massively more positive about my financial situation, I know what steps I need to take to increase my score and I’ll start working on it today! Even things that I didn’t realise were connected to your score (being on the electoral roll being one) so it’s amazing to have a clear picture of everything that needs doing. Very very happy with totally money.

  • How did you find the sign-up process?

It took a couple of minutes. I didn't need to put too much detail about n either, which is great if you're feeling lazy.

  • Which aspects of the TotallyMoney site do you like the most? And which were most useful to you.

The layout is incredibly clear. It is straightforward to find what you're looking for. The information is easy to understand and digest. I like the dashboard, as it is all laid out.

  • What did you think of your Borrowing Power?

It's about what I would expect. I have no debts, luckily, so I would expect a decent ability to borrow.

  • How did you find TotallyMoney’s recommendations for products (e.g credit card/mortgages)?

It was easy to see what I was looking for. (I wanted to look at travel cards) I didn't like the sponsored one being on top. I was also a bit surprised that it recommended the card I have, even though it clearly isn't the best.

  • How has your knowledge of your financial situation changed?

So I was’t that impressed with the service but I did click on the other offers link which takes you to card issuers to be able to apply for credit cards.
