This is the feedback thread for the testers who have tested the O2 Family Plan and its associated benefits, including discounts on each new connection added, premium access to the Qustodio parental controls app, exclusive O2 Priority family offers and NSPCC trained Gurus for advice.

Here’s what O2 has to say:
"#IsItAlright to dread the school holidays?
#IsItAlright to let your 15-year-old play PEGI 18 rated video games?
#IsItAlright to let them have a tablet at breakfast?
Here at O2, we understand that family life isn't straightforward. In fact, it can be downright messy. We believe that your mobile world shouldn’t be.
So, we’re launching O2 Family. We want to highlight the range of challenges you as parents all face, and bring together our products and services to help you with your day-to-day parenting.
The questions are endless. That's why at O2 we offer expert advice, massive savings with our Family Plan and exclusive Priority offers all summer long for family fun.”

Testers, please leave your feedback by answering the following questions and also sharing any other feedback you’d like to:

  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?
  2. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?
  3. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?
  4. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

All testers who give their feedback (both on this thread and on a short survey we’ve sent) will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Firstly I'd like to say this has been a huge help. We have been the only one of my sons friends who hadnt given in last year and got a mobile but with the start of secondary the school demanded they have one and this 02 project has been a huge help with this!

  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan? Incredibly - start to finish we had it sorted within 4minutes!
  2. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far? Superb, the parental controls have been amazing - Qustodio. Its allowed us to monitor his usage and what he's using without having to disturb him. Its also allowed our youngest to use a phone for educational reasons without us worrying what else he might access!
  3. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think? LOVE IT! Such a huge benefit with these sort of controls being charged for most places its great its free!
  4. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan. Definitely. We thought we'd use this for a month and then head back to previous provider however we are all changing now. Aside from the ease of just one bill the benefits are superb!

  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Very easy. I did it over live chat on the O2 website. The advisor talked me through everything and the sim card was sent out the same day.
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

Really good. I can track all the data, messages and calls used from the app
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

It is fantastic. One of the best apps I have used. It is brilliant for tracking absolutely everything my DS does. It is very easy to use, I would recommend it to anyone with children. It was fairly easy to set up. We now have no arguments about time limits as these are discussed beforehand. I worry a lot less about my DS being in his phone as I can track everything including his location. We've had a couple of issues with it not working but I just reinstalled the app and it worked again.
  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes I would recommend.
Ellamar · 04/09/2018 16:20

I am very happy with the o2 family plan and it was super simple to set it all up.It has been a very pleasant experience and both myself and members of my family are more than satisfied. There is a range of prices to suit your data usage and I think this is great as at certain times for holidays etc. I love the qustodio premium app as i can monitor my 14 year old son search history, texts and calls. I felt a bit sneaky at first but i ended up knowing when it was a close friend and I would not read this. This is a very impressive monitoring app as it also shows words googled and will show you the content of text message. You can also block websites that you think innapropriate which is great. I would recommend the o2 family plan to friends and family as I would not go back to our previous provider now.

  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Really easy, as I already had a phone with O2 I could do it all via text message once I'd ordered a plan for my son.
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

Really good, it's nice to be able to track his usage from my app rather than having to check his phone.
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Yes, it's really helpful to know exactly what my son is doing on his phone and that he's being kept safe by the filters.
  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes, I'd recommend anyone that wants to get their child a mobile phone do it through something like O2 because of both the ability to track their usage through the O2 app and because of Qustodio.

  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

It was so easy to sign up did it all very easily by text message very quick to reply and add to my own account
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

The family plan is great, saves me money easy to use and great customer service so far
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

The app is a fantastic idea for families with kids so simple to set up and monitor things and set up restrictions of needed
  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Highly recommend the family plan. Already used o2 and was so simple to set up the family plan from this with so many great features and money saving plans.
Shuggas · 04/09/2018 18:38
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Rather easy actually. We opted to go into the store, I prefer the option of face to face and it was a nice interaction. I could see the options and have them explained which was helpful. The chap was very knowledgeable about the Qustodio app and was saying how fab it was, and he wasn't lying! A little longer than others have taken but it was nice as my DD got to be a part of the experience too.

Once set up I just had to use the pac code to keep her number. Unfortunately it wasn't working on the link to do online so I had to call to give the pac code for her number to say the same, that part took longer, I think I was on hold for about 20 mins or so and all in the call was about 30 mins. That part was a pain.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

Really good. She has a discount and once my husband is up for renewal he is joining onto it too. It's a shame we can't do it now!

We really like 02, it has great benefits, we didn't know about the family plan before this opportunity came up so we just went with the cheapest deal for DD initially as it was her first phone.

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Absolutely fantastic! I love it, I love all it does and I even got told DD was looking at trying to get FB, I can block sites and apps from my phone, the alerts on search words and safe words are great as well as usage breakdowns of use too. Absolutely love it! It makes me feel a lot more comfortable about her internet use and aps - she has an iPhone and we had set it up so that my husband I are linked to her and we authorise apps for her, but this takes it much deeper and I can't praise it enough!! I really could go on!

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Being honest I was a bit dubious on whether it was worth it long term, her other plan was a pay monthly for ÂŁ5 with good text amounts and data and calls with ID, we went for the ÂŁ13 a month tariff with 02 for 12 months so quite a cost difference. But actually this does so much more and I think with the benefits that come alongside it is absolutely worth it. Especially once Husband joins on too. I would definitely recommend it and will. Thanks for this opportunity if I hadn't of seen it I wouldn't have known how fab it is!
crazyinlurve · 04/09/2018 18:56
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan? Really simple! I already have my own contract with o2 so was able to sign up by text message.
  2. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far? Really positive, great discounts available!
  3. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think? No but once my daughter is old enough I will definitely use to keep an eye on things.
  4. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan? Yes would highly recommend!
Babycarmen · 04/09/2018 19:13
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Really easy actually, I used the live chat option and they sent me out the SIM card that day.
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

To be honest I didn't expect to like it as much as I do! I'm really impressed with all the features and how easy it is to navigate.
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Yes and I absolutely love it! I used to worry a lot about my DDs time in her phone and what she was doing so being able to track it all is really reassuring. We will be using it from now on.
  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Definitely. It's worth it for the discount alone but if you have children it's just fantastic.
stinkybee · 04/09/2018 19:53
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Very easy although I was disappointed I couldn't sign up with a rolling sim. I had to start a monthly contract.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

The family plan itself is ok. You get a reasonable discount but not as good as some other networks. The main benefit is having o2 priority which is worth the money to sign up for a contract alone. Some great offers. We already got free Alton Towers tickets and plenty of coffees from Cafe Nero.

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Haven't used the app yet but is was easy to get, no problems there.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

I would recommend o2 mainly for the priority app. If you need more than one sim then the family plan would make sense in terms of value. If you aren't going to use the priority app then I would say you can get much better deals elsewhere.
MurielTheSheepDog · 05/09/2018 07:10
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

As an existing O2 customer it was extremely easy to add an extra number onto my account. I used the 'MyO2' app, chose my options and the order was delivered within a day or two.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

My experience has been totally positive. There was no issues at any point along the way.

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

I received the link to this almost immediately and think it is really great, especially as my child is still young. It gives access to lots of relevant data and gives peace of mind when DC is using the phone/tablet etc. It's great to still feel in control.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes, based on my experience, I would definitely recommend it.
MadameOvary · 05/09/2018 12:48
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Very easy, as I was already signed up with o2 and already had a phone that my DD could use for her new sim card.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

Very positive. Because my DH also has an o2 plan, DD's discount ended up being greater, even though DH is not technically a part of the Family Plan

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

I did and it is revelatory! Very easy to instal and manage on the relevant devices, it is an excellent way to limit and monitor internet usage (much to my DD's dismay!) and can also be adapted to limit access to the device itself, not just the internet.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes, I would. This was DD's first sim card meaning she had her own phone number so it was important that I was able to set this up and oversee what she has access to. o2 made the whole sign-up process trouble-free.
GayParee · 06/09/2018 11:30
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

A nightmare – took five texts, then two phone calls (and no promised call back either) - v painful indeed

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

OK – discovered coverage isn’t the best at the kids school, but not sure any would be that great. They like having Priority themselves though, DD was delighted with the free Thorntons ice-cream

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

I’ve had a quick look but not sure it really does what I need it to, probably need a spend a longer time looking into it.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Given my experience, no, however we have a pretty good discounted sim only deal so I guess for that it’s worth it. I had gone with O2 as I’d had such good experience with them, but both signing up to the Family Plan and another separate issue have made me regret having so many accounts with them (and the fact I have six accounts with them but they have never told me about Family plan, and thus I missed the 28 day window for the two I’ve taken out this year so far means I am paying over the odds – as my contracts end I will look at moving elsewhere). I also found I had to explain the Family Plan to several staff before they could help me, it doesn't seem to be sidely known even within Mumsnet
ZaiZai · 06/09/2018 18:32
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

As we already have one O2 plan it was unbelievably easy as we could join the Family’s plan via text message once we had signed up to another monthly plan.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

To date I have had no issues. The main benefit which I would have to say is invaluable is the Qustodio app. I have recommended this to family and friends with secondary school aged children, it really is a great app. I am still awaiting my first bill to see if I receive a reduction in monthly tariffs via this plan.

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

I am a full advocate for the Qustodio app, I have recommended it to family and friends. Having the ability to control which apps and websites my daughter can access as well as set times she has access to the internet/social apps such as WhatsApp is amazing. I love that it also acts as a tracker too so when I eventually let go off the reins a little and allow her to travel on her own I can easily track her whereabouts. The daily reports are useful as I can view the duration she has spent not on apps/websites but also a breakdown of which apps/websites she has accessed. Overall I would say this is a great innovative scheme O2 have launched.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

As mentioned above, I have already recommended the Family Plan to family and friends.
kfever10 · 07/09/2018 12:06
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Pretty easy, as we are already with O2. We chose the plan, and everything was managed by text message. Didn't take much time at all and was stress free.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

Simple and cost effective. Myself and my husband have O2 plans, so we saved a decent amount of money this way. The ability for my daughter to have her own priorities is great too, she loved her 'rewards'.

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

This is invaluable for younger children. My daughter is 12, and so I like to keep track of what apps and sites she visits. It's also great for seeing the duration of time spent on certain areas, so I can watch her spending and usage and make sure the plan is suitable for her.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes, I would. I was a little dubious to start with, as we have had 'family plans' before which don't actually save much money. With the rest of the family also on O2 we get a really decent price, and we have found the coverage to be adequate. Going forwards, we will also be looking to sign my son up to the plan when he starts secondary school next year, as well as continuing to use the Qustodio app.
babycakes1010 · 07/09/2018 14:38

Thank you for allowing me to take part in this trial.
My experience to Sign up to this trial was a bit of a nightmare. One of my contracts was due a renewal so thought would be a straightforward upgrade with the family plan added. They advised I needed a new SIM and had to wait for that to arrive. I thought it would be pretty much ready to go/set up but once I received it i had to apply via text message for the family plan to be added which took a further 3 days to set up!
Even though took a while to set up im very pleased with the discounts that are readily available.
I also used the qustodio app and I couldn't believe how great it is! Love the fact it keeps track and limits the use of devises and I know what sites my dd accesses.
Even though it was hassle setting up I can honestly say I would recommend to family and friends.

SprogletsMum · 08/09/2018 08:12
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

It was very easy, I checked all the ins and outs of it on live chat before I ordered my son's sim card and then because I knew what to do it took a few minutes once the sim card had arrived.
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

So far it's been pretty good. I'm quite new to o2 and getting a discount on further family contracts can only be a good thing. We also got 6 months free Netflix too.
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Yes I did. I think the app itself is really good for monitoring your childs usage but, being able to read all their messages feels a bit like an invasion of privacy. I'm saying this though as someone with a 9 year old that isn't using social media yet and is only texting family or preapproved nice friends. With a secretive older child it would probably be more useful
  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Definitely, one bill makes it easier and a discount is always good.
geelee · 13/09/2018 21:09
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Really easy, if you follow the instructions. My DH was already with O2 sim only, I upgraded my phone contract (which was due) to a sim only contract and ordered DD a new 12 month contract sim only. I spoke to O2 customer services who explained what I needed to do, simply send a text message to a specific number, saying LOYALTY followed by the lead mobile number first, the number that you want 20% off second and then in my case, the third number with 30% off third. And so on up to 50% . So you can chose which plan/number had which discount (used the 30% off the more expensive plan). I did it wrong initially as I didn't read instructions but easily sorted with a phone call.
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

Fantastic, amazing savings. I did find that not everyone in customer services knew all of the ins and outs of the Family Plan, but generally found they could resolve eventually.
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Fairly easy to set up on both my phone and DD phone. She's 13 so we had a conversation about why this app was good for both of us. I love that I can see what apps she's using, and how much time she's online and location finder - was a little disappointed that not all features where available for iPhones but what is available is fab.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Definitely, the only little thing is you have to sign up within 28 days of a new connection, so only available to new connections and not existing contracts.
However, if you are organised , as family members need new contacts you just add them on and save loads of money - there are many different sim only contracts and with 20%-50% off make them amazing value for the family.
Have already recommended to many friends and extended family.
HELENSCRESCENT · 16/09/2018 15:22
  1. How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

Very difficult, dispute seceral phone calls and online chats it did not get sorted. Spoke with mumsnet about difficulties but it was never resolved.
  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

The customer service i have received from o2 has been horrific and im now considering cancelling all including my original plan after hearing the most shocking service i have ever ecperienced.
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

I could not access it.
  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan

No absolutely not and will telling all my friends and family to AVOID o2 completely.
Anazowmilo · 17/09/2018 12:15

Q: How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

A: it was very easy. Only one member of our family was on O2 and after a short trip in-store we changed everyone to O2, initially this was just for the test but we are going to stick to this.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

It has been great.
  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

Really useful for older kids as can monitor usage remotely. Works well.

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes I would. We have switched from Vodafone and are sticking with O2 after testing.
gemmasouthworth · 17/09/2018 12:29

How easy was it for you to sign up to the O2 Family Plan?

It was straightforward. I explained what I wanted and it was done and dusted within a short amount of time, the gentleman in the shop was very helpful.

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

So far so good, it does what it says on the tin and no issues

  1. Did you use the Qustodio app? If so, what did you think?

I think it is fab. Great control for when you need it and handy for having kids on the plan

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes I would. Especially for those with children who are at the independent age!
hotmama27 · 17/09/2018 13:00

How easy easy was it to sign up to the o2 family plan?
It was very easy I just nipped into the o2 store and all was completed within 20 minutes
What has your experience of the o2 family plan been so far?
I’m very happy with the experience I wish I would of switch to this sooner.
Did you use the qustodio app? If so what did you think?
I think the app is brilliant so I’m able to monitor the usage of my children.
Would you recommend signing up the o2 family plan?
Yes I definitely would recommend signing up to this plan I am staying with the o2 family plan

LITTLEMUTLEY23 · 17/09/2018 15:53

1 - How easy was it to sign up to the O2 plan?
I decided to go into the O2 shop to sign up. It was easy enough. The member of staff was very helpful and as was already a O2
customer it took about 15 minutes.

2 - What has your experience of the O2
family plan been so far?

Okay no concerns. My DD was on pay as you go previous to the family plan , and the contract roughly works out the same amount of money for the same call time etc with the added bonus of qustodio and it is a lot easier just having the one bill.

3 - Did you use the qustodio app? If so what did you think?

This is the best bit of the family plan for me. I have had issues in the past with my DD going on websites we did not allow, so this feature is great , very happy.

4 - Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family plan?

Yes I would. I can't see the downside and would save money if you have more than one chid with a contract.

this process was pretty simple as i already have an o2 line

  1. What has your experience of the O2 Family Plan been so far?

  1. Would you recommend signing up to the O2 Family Plan?

Yes
franuk1 · 18/09/2018 18:11
  1. I had to start a new contract as I wasn't already with O2. I did the first one on line which was quite a pain; was not at the store to be picked up when it said it would be and there was not much information on the website. The second line I did in store and took literally 5 minutes. no problems
  2. My experience with the O2 Family Plan so far has been very good. Me and my husband will be swapping to the Family Plan once our contracts end with our current supplier.
  3. I absolutely love the Qustodio app. My daughter (12) has not been fazed by it and just carried on as normal but my son (13) hates it and wants me to remove it. I have told him that if he wants me to pay for a phone for him then he has to keep the app. It would be good if there was some way of using the app without your child knowing.
  4. I will definitely be recommending the O2 Family Plan to friends and colleagues.
