This is the feedback thread for the 60 Mumsnetters who tested mattresses from the Little Big Dreams range with their 5-15 year olds. Each tester was given one of the below mattress to test with their children:

Moon Chaser (Traditional Spring) - The traditional spring mattress gives fantastic support with the advantage of an anti-allergy fabric treatment for a healthy night’s sleep, and helps to keep your child dreaming for longer. This mattress has a medium comfort.

The top panel is removable and washable, with a handy waterproof layer underneath, keeping the mattress clean and fresh for its entire lifetime. This mattress has a medium firm comfort.

1. Pic hopefully correctly uploaded. We have the Stargazer. I don't remember choosing it - I thought I was assigned it by MN but correct me if I am wrong and I will try to remember!
   
   
2. Nice, soft cover. Mattress was a little thinner looking than I was expecting but nice and firm to lie on.
   
   
3. Comfort is my main concern. Kids are past the night-time accidents phase so a washable cover is not essential but nice to have.

1. I don't remember picking a specific mattress - sorry! Can you tell from the photo? I couldn't find anything on the label to distinguish it.
   
2. Mattress was delivered with a stain on it - looked brown, not sure what it was. Stain was on plastic covering and had got onto mattress where covering was a bit torn. I used a washcloth on the mattress and the stain came off easily.
   DD(6) and I liked the look of the mattress, and it wasn't too heavy to manoeuvre around. DD said it was 'bouncier' than her previous (foam) mattress, which she approved of, and didn't feel as hot. She did complain, however, that the cover bunched up and became lumpy at times.
   Overall, she is happy with the mattress and wants to keep using it instead of her old one.
   
3. DC are both in mid-sleeper beds, so thickness of mattress is very important - I believe it needs to be 18cm or less. Comfort is of course paramount - including not being too hot. Having a washable cover is less of an issue as we tend to use mattress protectors anyway.

I was assigned Moon chaser but asked for dream catcher instead, which I received. I asked for dream catcher because it was the best of the range.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
Absolutely fantastic. It screamed high quality.


What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?
Comfort.

Something I forgot to say - the mattress felt like it had been treated with something that left a residue on my fingers after touching it. It was a bit yucky and if I had ordered it myself I would have complained. It is not there any more (absorbed by the sheet, maybe?). Anyway, that was a bit strange and off-putting.

As a PP has said, the mattress cover has bunched up a bit (actually you can see this in my photo).

We have the Dream Catcher (Pocket Spring) and I chose this one as I find memory foam never seem to last and end up with a big divot where you have been lying. Also the idea of a washable cover appealed as it will keep the mattress fresh. Unfortunately I can't share a photo as I wasn't sure when we would be asked for feedback and only got notification today it is due by Thursday. We are currently away till the weekend. I will share upon my return.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
It felt good quality, it is a nice depth and has a lot of support without being too firm that it is uncomfortable.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

The washable bit appeals and if I had the choice between two and one was washable I would probably pick that over the other. Also the firmness as it is important there is enough support. Finally the heat regulating also appeals as my daughter does get sweaty in bed sometimes so if a mattress is heat regulating it would also appeal.

Rubbish photo as it's on a high sleeper so hopefully that's ok!
We have the moon chaser. I chose it because it was the right depth for the high sleeper.
When it arrived my first thought was that it was heavy! I'd had nothing to compare it to though as the previous mattress was the cheapest of the cheap roll up jobbies.
DD (5) liked that it had a purple trim as that's her favourite colour.
She said after the first few nights "My head really likes it, please can I keep it?"

She's slept well on it so I'm happy- it felt really comfortable when I had a sit on it before we put it up on the bed.

In an ideal world I'd always prioritise comfort in a mattress, however funds dictated that we got what we could afford for DD at the time so it's been lovely that she has ended up with a decent mattress.

I chosen a Dream Catcher mattress.
My hart was set on this mattress as soon as a read the lovely name. After reading the description I was even more convinced and I was has hoping that I will get the chance to test one.

As soon as the mattress arrived I was very impressed and so was my son!
The mattress looks really high quality and it seemed to be very comfortable. The cover is made really well and I love the underneath waterproof layer that is very soft and not made out of a stiff plastic like some kids mattress have.

"What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?"
The most important thing would be the support and comfort for my child and also practicality- in this case is this fantastic removable cover that makes cleaning much easier.

Having a 15 year old daughter I chose the Dream catcher pocket spring mattress. I loved the idea of the mattress having the handy waterproof layer and the ability to remove the washable cover incase of any unfortunate accidents when she is on time on the month ☺️.

My first impressions. When the mattress arrived it looked big and bulky compared to a standard single mattress. I was surprised how light it was as i carried it up 3 flights of stairs. The cover has a waterproof base on one side with a quilted base on the other which made the mattress look expensive.

Having and older child whom has allergies the firmness of the mattress and the ability for it to be breathable is really important to me.

I chose the Dream Catcher (Pocket Spring) mattress for my 9 year old daughter. My daughter is what I would call a light sleeper - the smallest sound will wake her up! She has often complained in the past about her previous sprung mattress being "lumpy" - however, we swapped it with her sisters who sleeps soundly upon it. If I were to purchase a new mattress I would be looking for coils which did not push up too much as this is uncomfortable for our daughter. I would also be looking for a good quality mattress with an "easy to protect/clean" cover.
The Dreams mattress we received was really thick with a wonderful luxurious velvet feel to the mattress protector. This can be unzipped from the actual mattress and washed - what a fabulous idea!
My daughter loved the look and feel of the mattress immediately. The care instructions what came with it were really good too as I think we just forget about them but really, to maximise the comfort and life of the mattress, these should be taken note of.

Lovely, soft, easy to clean. LO said it looked amazing and was soft to sleep on and very comfortable.

I chose the Dreamcatcher mattress as my daughter is 11 & needed a more supportive mattress.
First impressions are great,my daughter has been getting a great nights sleep on this mattress,much better than her old one,and like the fact it has a washable cover.
I usually look for a supportive but good value mattress.

Firstly, ignore the mess of the wall we are redecorating the room at the minute. Also the darker patches on the mattress are just the light.

1. I chose the Dream Catcher Pocket Spring mattress for my 8 year old ds. I did select the 15cm depth as we are looking to change the bed to a high sleeper once the room is done. The main reasons for choosing this mattress were the heat regulation feature, ds has a tendency to overheat at night even with just a sheet so I was keen for him to try this. From the descriptions, this seemed the most supportive mattress and having been sleeping badly on an unsupportive mattress previously it was the support and comfort that I was after for him. I was also keen on the removable cover, he can be sweaty and the ability to keep the top layer properly washed regularly was really appealing.
   

1. My first impressions of the mattress were that it both looked and felt quite luxurious and is a good firm mattress. I did have a lay down in it myself as it arrived when he was at school and it really is very comfortable.
   

DS’s first impressions were that it was nice and comfortable and he was really looking forward to going to bed that night!

1. The most important thing I look for in a mattress is that it has to support the back and be comfortable.

I chose the Dream Catcher (Pocket Spring) mattress for my 5 year old son. I hope the picture is displayed ok. I chose this particular mattress because it seemed to the best fit due to the washable top cover. I also wanted a medium firm mattress as I felt that this would be the most comfortable for my son.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?

I was very impressed with the mattress as it seemed to be firm/solid but it also is very comfortable to sleep on (I fell asleep next to my son). It also helped that it wasn't rolled up on arrival. I put it on the bed straight away and my son enjoyed bouncing on it when it arrived. During the recent warm evenings, my son didn't wake up from being too hot and sweaty which helped a great deal.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

I look for value for money, washable covers and long lasting comfort such as; springs lasting for a long time or the mattress not losing firmness over time.

I was assigned the Moon Chaser mattress after selecting I was happy to test any of the three mattress types. The Moon Chaser is the same type of mattress and in the same price bracket as the Stompa mattress she had on her bed already (which was about 18mo). DS still has the same Stompa mattress as he's on the bottom bunk, so we have been able to compare and contrast while the new mattress has been in use.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
First of all, it looked substantially more luxurious than the mattress it replaced. The purple edging and grey sides make look a little different. Since having the mattress, my DD prefers it to her previous mattress and I certainly think it feels much more supportive. We can't feel the springs and although it's of medium firmness it's neither too soft or too firm. DD has slept well since having it. Furthermore, the mattress is an excellent fit on our bed frame. The Stompa mattress, despite being a Euro size, was just a touch too small in all dimensions but this one is a lovely fit.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?
Definitely comfort, our DD is 9yo but a tall girl and I'd want a mattress that can support her into her teens. There would be a definite benefit to a removable washable cover but I don't think I'd pay extra for it, for a 9yo. Although if this option was available on the cheaper mattress, I'd definitely purchase.

Thank you very much for letting us test this product. You've made my son really happy. I think he's actually slept much better since having this. He says it's way more comfy.

We chose the Dream Catcher. I liked the name - I know it's not important!
Also it said it had heat regulation. My son tends to get warm (this has woken him in the middle of the night before, so an issue) so i thought this would be good.

It looked and felt solid and nice and bouncy. My son was absolutely thrilled to see it. His last mattress had lumps in it and this one was lovely and soft with no lumps. Very happy!

Value is important, but I'd be prepared to pay a little more for a really comfortable mattress. We wanted something that ds could grow into so I'm hoping it lasts as he develops and grows.

i cant share a pic at the moment as my screen is broke on my phone but i will do as it should be fixed by tomorrow we didn't choose we were assigned the stargazer, we wanted to test as my son had had his mattress since he was 3 it came well packaged

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?

the mattress arrived promptly and was well packaged it wasn't to heavy so i was able to lift it myself i love the washable cover as anyone knows with kids spills are certain
my son is 10 and he really does love it he said its so cozy he doesn't want to get up for school lol

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

comfort, i want to know that my son is comfortable and cozy and as said above my son loves it thank you

We chose the Star Gazer (Foam) because we’ve had a very bad experience with spring mattresses and wanted to try something different.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
It looked great. I was expecting it to be vacuum packed but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. I had a little lay down on it and the mattress felt comfortable, firm and bouncy. There was not any chemical smell which some mattresses can sometimes have. I love the washable cover!
My son was thrilled to see his new mattress. I couldn’t wake him up in the morning and he said it was the best night sleep he’s had.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?
Definitely comfort and it has to have the right firmness. Washable cover is a great bonus.

I opted for the Dream Catcher mattress as the description sounded great and I thought the pocket spring would last longer than a foam mattress. I also liked the idea of the zip off, washable cover, the waterproof and the anti allergy and temperature regulating features.

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?

My little boy was really excited, we timed the arrival of the mattress with moving into a bigger bedroom so it was a big occasion. He jumped straight onto his bed and said it’s sooo comfy, it feels really nice when I lie on it. My first impression was that it looks really well made and expensive, it looked clean, fresh and modern and the material on the top felt soft and around the edges felt durable. I have to admit to having a little lie on it myself and it feels really comfy!

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

I look for a mattress that is comfortable and supportive and is durable enough to last a decent amount of time. Features such as zip off covers, waterproof sections and anti allergy treatments are a bonus!

I chose the star gazer mattress for my 11 year old daughter. I chose it because it was the right thickness for her bed which is the top bunk. And we prefer foam over springs and i like the water repellant layer.

Its very light and was easy to carry upstairs. My daughter thinks it could have been a bit softer but apart from that its comfortable to sleep on. And she has been sleeping better but her last mattress was a good few years old.

   We were assigned the moon chaser (traditional spring mattress). I don’t specifically remember choosing this one as would have preferred the dream catcher instead as I liked the features especially the removable cover (as my son has the odd accident). Maybe I chose the option of testing any mattress. Either way, I like that it has an anti-allergy fabric treatment for a healthy night’s sleep.
   
   
2. What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
   
   My first impressions were that it was a basic plain mattress. Visually, nothing stood out as such. For a traditional spring mattress though, it was much lighter than the old one it was replacing and felt much more comfortable but still supportive.
   
   My son was excited to receive a new mattress and commented how it was much more comfortable than the old one, which was very firm and uncomfortable. We had to use a mattress topper to enable him to get a good night’s sleep.
   
   
3. What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child? Comfort. Eliminating the need for a mattress topper. Also, a waterproof feature would be an added bonus.

I thought the matress looked nice and seemed firm. My child is a 9 year old boy and showed no interest in the mattress whatsoever!

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?

That it is supportive and comfortable and that they will get a good night's sleep on it. With this one I like the removable top layer, woul dhave been great during th eyears when they weren't dry at night.

I am looking for one that they will sleep in. Unfortunately I don’t have the best sleepers in the world so comfort to encourage them to stay in bed is a big consideration!

Support and comfort. We love the extra protection this mattress gives. If we ever need another mattress (which we will eventually) we will definitely buy from dreams. It is the best mattress we have ever had. I wish I could sleep on it!

I chose the Dream Catcher mattress for my 14 year old DS, like the one shown in the photo. I cannot take a photo at the moment as I am away visiting family, but will do that as soon as I get back. I chose it because it is pocket sprung and he is growing very quickly and needs a supportive mattress. I also liked the temperature regulating and anti-allergy features. The washable cover is also a plus- much more hygienic with growing teens!

What were your and your child’s first impressions of the mattress?
I thought it looked modern with the white/grey and well made from quality materials. It was sealed in sturdy plastic and did not require time to expand before use. The quilted side was very soft, whilst the waterproof side was actually not as plastic feeling as I have seen on other mattresses. It was light enough to easily get it up the stairs by myself.

My DS was keen to test it as soon as I got it into his bed. His immediate reaction was "Wow Mum, this is amazing. I'm going to sleep so well!" After his first night's sleep he said he fell asleep quicker than normal, as he found it easier to get comfortable and his back wasn't hurting, which it did with his old mattress. We made a joke about him going to sleep on his new 'cloud'.

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a mattress for your child?
A mattress needs to provide the best comfort and support as possible for a growing child. Children have such busy lives these days, that sleep quality is so important. You also need to balance the cost/value against how long the mattress will last, so quality and durability are also important.

I was allocated the Star Gazer mattress, but had requested one of the others because my son is almost 12 and past that night-time accident stage.

Our first impressions of the Star Gazer mattress were really positive. It looks very modern and well made. The white, gray and purple colour scheme is a nice change from standard beige mattresses! He loved the look of it and wanted it on his bed straight away.

I always look for well made, good quality products and had been looking at this range of mattresses before the trial started.

My son is always complaining that he’s too hot in bed, so it’s important that a new mattress is breathable and cool to sleep on.

I would have preferred either of the other mattresses in the range because he is growing fast and a sprung mattress would likely be better for his growing frame, however this is a very comfortable mattress and so far it’s proving very popular!
