This activity is now closed

This is the feedback thread for the MNers who have both completed and are still working on finishing the Disney 24 Hour Challenge. Disney are looking for as many families as possible to sign up to take part in their new 24 Hour Challenge as part of Disney’s Healthy living commitment. The challenge is to clock up a total of 24 hours worth of activity with your team between June and September.

If after reading the feedback this sounds like something your family would be interested in, the challenge is still ongoing so please sign up here, create your team page and please select ‘Mumsnet’ when asked where you heard about the challenge.

Here’s what Disney have to say: “This summer Disney invites you to take part in the 24 Hour Challenge, a FREE, virtual challenge inspired by Incredibles 2, that you can do anywhere, at any time. Every week teams will have a chance to win Incredible prizes, including 10 weekly prize bundles worth £200 each and, if you complete all 24 hours, a holiday to Disneyland Paris to experience and take part in the Magic Run weekend, from 21st – 23rd September.

Families can clock up time doing activities they already enjoy (like walking, swimming, playing in the park), use our “missions” (inspired by the characters from the Disney/Pixar film Incredibles 2) as ideas to get started, or try something new!”

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How have you found the challenge so far?
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Everyone who leaves feedback on the 24 Hour Challenge will be in with the chance of winning one of the following prizes:
  • Family ticket to the West End musical Aladdin + £200 for travel and accommodation**
  • Family ticket to Disney on Ice + £200 for travel and accommodation*
  • £100 voucher of their choice (from a list)

Thanks and good luck

  • How have you found the challenge so far?

We started doing it but within a few days we had stopped.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

We did around 2 hours in total
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Mainly walking, playing football in the garden.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

The idea is a great one but the weathers just been too hot. My DH also works a strange shift pattern so we wasn’t able to do it as a whole team most of the time
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

I’d stick to a set time to get into a routine. The ideas great but not for us at this time
anniewhitey · 11/07/2018 11:25
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

Umm ok, I keep forgetting to log times so really I probably completed it long ago as we are a very active family but it’s only at the end of the day (or sometimes a couple of days later) I remember and then have to try and work back.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

12 hours officially

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Lots
Dance
Walking
Running
Swimming

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

I’m not really we do so much anyway

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

It made me think a bit more about making sure we did them all together

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Just go out have fun and don’t stop
DoodleCat · 11/07/2018 11:28

How have you found the challenge so far?
A nice idea but it's basically just a way to add up your hours. It's also tricky because it expects all team members to do every activity together, does not work for our family.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

About two
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

We did playing in the playground, walking and scooting.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No, they didn't work for our family.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

The link to the Incredibles
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Remember before starting that they expect all family members to do every activity.
miaow123 · 11/07/2018 11:31
  1. We enjoyed the challenge and did alot of our hours on holiday in cornwall.
  2. We have done all our hours.
  3. Walking, swimming, funrun, frisbee, running in sea, wall climbing, hide and seek, adventure playground, crazy golf, roller skating.

4.we looked at them but did our own things.
  1. Organising more family time and sticking to it.
  2. Plan time together even if 30 mins it will all add up and you get to spend more family time together.
CathBookworm · 11/07/2018 11:45

I would use some reward stickers so the children could actually see something happening

daisy913 · 11/07/2018 12:08
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

Sometimes fairly easy but other times hard as my fiance works long hours (9am to midnight some days) and we have struggled to fit it in on occasions Sad

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

28 so far

spending time together and having fun instead of the whole 'excercise is a chore' concept

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Make time to have fun, the excercise will be forgotten when the kids are laughing and playing and you are making everlasting memories
Itscurtainsforyou · 11/07/2018 12:14

We've done our 24 hours, but are going to keep going!

  • How have you found the challenge so far?

Really enjoyed it - it's given us an excuse to go out and do something exercise-wise together.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

We're on 24 hours and still going 🙂

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

We've done walking, swimming, trekking around theme parks - anything that gets us out the house.

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No we've made up our own to match our abilities and preferences

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Definitely give it a go!
clarbarn · 11/07/2018 12:39

Our team is addedpixiedust

  • How have you found the challenge so far?

Fine, the kids do loads of sports and dance classes without me so the challenge is finding family things to do. Should be easier in the holidays.
  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

About 6 hours so far logged.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

We have been swimming, cycling, to an adventure park and played football in the garden together. It was a good incentive for a 40 minute walk to a wedding last weekend.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

Not yet. I think we might look at those in the school holidays.
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Playing football together. Quality family time.
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Choose things which are not too ambitious but give opportunities to have fun together.

We will definitely be finishing our 24 hour challenge over the summer.
Thanks,
Clare

  • How have you found the challenge so far?

It's been fun, although I need to remember to log the time

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

only 2 and a half on the site, but I'm sure there's been more I just kind of forgot about it! I could do with an app on my phone to make it easier and have notifications to remind me!

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

We played swingball in the garden for ages, swimming, walks, walked to the park

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No I haven't as yet but will take a look at them

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

making sure all 3 of us spend time together doing things. I do a lot with dd2, but dd1 often doesn't want to come along. this has kind of forced her to do it and she has really enjoyed it once she got moving!!

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

go for it! its fun and especially while the weather is so nice its great all getting out and about and active together
kelandab · 11/07/2018 13:11

A climbing wall session plus walks around the local area

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No I haven’t

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Time spent together outside as a family

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Go for it, your older kids may even mean about it to begin with but once they’d get into it they will really enjoy it
Doubtfuldaphne · 11/07/2018 13:24
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

We’ve loved it! We’re going to keep it up for as long as possible! Once the lovely sun disappears it might get harder to find the motivation

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

24 so far. I didn’t think we’d clock up so much really

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Lots of football and walking mainly. I really want us to do more swimming but because of where we live, going for long walks as a family is the easiest (and really enjoyable)

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

The time spent together as a family and how happy it’s made us all feel after our time together

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Hollieh89 · 11/07/2018 13:32

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/07/2018 13:34

The Challenge was great fun!

We've clocked up 26 hours and 17 minutes iirc.

We've walked 2 and from school every day, to the supermarket café once a week, and I followed the DC round on sports day yesterday.

We haven't been using the missions or training plans, the DC didn't want to.

Our favourite thing has been keeping track of our hours.

My advice would be ask the DC how they want to complete the challenge.

gemmasouthworth · 11/07/2018 13:47

How have you found the challenge so far?

We have enjoyed it a lot more than I thought we would. I expected the children to become bored easily with doing the activities especially in the current heat but they really enjoyed it.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

25 hours

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Walking, running, cycling, we even made our own version of an assault course to take on for something a bit different

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

We did a couple of the missions but to be honest the children preferred to plan their own. Taking it in turns each time to choose what activity we did

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Spending time together outside and being silly together

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Don’t take it too seriously. As long as you are out doing something active it’s all good, we even used our walk to school as part of it and used it as an opportunity to say they had to do a silly walk when they saw a certain colour car so it didn’t seem boring.
HannahLI · 11/07/2018 14:24

How have you found the challenge so far?
We have really enjoyed it and it’s been fun to see the hours add up to over a whole day’s activities and give us a great sense of achievement as a family.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? We are just over 24 hours at the moment but there will be more to come.
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together? Walking, biking, swimming are our three main ones. My boys love being outdoors and they haven’t needed much coaxing to get out and about. It’s been a really fun thing to do together as a family.
  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No not really we have been busy working out our own which seemed fun to do
  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Spending time together been active
  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Do it, it’s fun and gives you something to work towards together. We thought it would take ages to get to 24 hours but we have found ourselves doing more and more together and we achieved it much more quickly than we thought.
Tashap83 · 11/07/2018 14:37

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How have you found the challenge so far?

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

15
  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

Swimming, walking mainly

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

No we didn’t

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Doing it together

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

Probably better suited to families who’s children that can understand the challenges
carolineandbaby · 11/07/2018 15:12
  • How have you found the challenge so far? Boring

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team? Less than 1/2 hr

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?

We did flossing! We went for walks and played the floor is lava

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ? Nope

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

For a short time it forced us to focus on doing things together as a family

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge? Put in the time. We didn’t. We lost interest very quick
NicHay · 11/07/2018 15:33
  1. Good idea to help motivate us to exercise together and help you remember that not all fun things cost lots of money but having older children it us not always possible for us to do stuff altogether. The last couple of weeks the children have had school events and my husband was away for a few days so difficult to log any. I’m sure when we have time off together in the summer we will log hours much quicker.
  2. 5 hours
  3. Table tennis, football, walking, outdoor gym equipment at local park
  4. No - haven’t used these
  5. We won a trip to the premiere of Incredibles 2
  6. You don’t need to plan too much, just go to the local park or even tge garden and have fun together.
poopoopoo · 11/07/2018 15:44

How have you found the challenge so far?
We have enjoyed looking at the different characters missions to get ideas of things to do. My son liked the Mr Incredible Bounce and Monkey bar ones. My daughter liked the Elastigirl dance off and super thrust best. The challenge has actually been easy.

How many hours have you clocked up as a team?
We logged all 24 hours no problem, I think its a bit too easy.

How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
Since starting the challenge we go swimming every Sunday morning from 10:00-12:00 in the local lido, the water is a bit cold but it is great fun. We have been walking or riding bikes on Saturday, and set up an a bounce track in the garden.

Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?
We have used them to get ideas, and went to the park to do the monkey bars, which my son was an ace at.

What has been your favourite thing about the challenge?
Making time to spend together and be more healthy.

What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?
Make the time! leave the housework for later in the day, you will feel good after a run together and you can raise money for Unicef (good motivation- the kids help to motivate you too!). Win win.

mrsglowglow · 11/07/2018 17:27

How have you found the challenge so far?

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

Getting outside and seeing the kids runni g about being children again and not glued to their screens.

Just do it, it's fun and for a good cause too!
TartanTrousers · 11/07/2018 20:25
  • How have you found the challenge so far?

Great! I’ve recently been diagnosed with a disability and I’ve been feeling a little sorry for myself (aswell as being in pain and experiencing chronic fatigue!) so this challenge couldn’t have come at a better time. We’re HUGE Disney fans so found the challenge initially appealing due to the connection but on taking part, we (and me in particular) have really reaped the benefits of challenging ourselves to meet the number but also the positives of daily exercise as a family.

  • How many hours have you clocked up as a team?

27 hours and 15 minutes so far

  • How are you taking part?/What activities have you done together?
  • Weekly swimming
  • Jack Jack’s missions (my son is obsessed!)
  • Walking
  • Obstacle course in the garden
  • Football

  • Have you been using the missions or training plans in Mission HQ?

Only Jack Jack’s (see son’s previous obsession)!

  • What has been your favourite thing about the challenge

A goal and a focus to motivate us to spend more time together as a family actually doing something productive, rather than behind screens

  • What advice would you give to other families who are thinking about completing the challenge?

The 24 hours is easily achieved so don’t let that put you off. Take advantage of the nice weather! It’s much easier to pursuade everyone to do a kick about or a walk when it’s so nice outside. Set yourself a fundraising target aswell for additional motivation. We chose £50 as something achievable and we’ve already exceeded that.
