This is the feedback thread for the 50 male Mumsnetters who tested the Below the Belt Grooming Fresh & Dry Balls gel in our first ever male only product test.

There was an initial sensation of coolness. I work in a physical job, it has also been a bit warm recently. I definitely feel there was definitely a lesser feeling of sticky than I would have normally expected by the end of the day.

Day to day use, but it has been very warm and my work is physical.

It wouldn't be my favourite choice of gift, but it wouldn't get put in a drawer and left to gather dust.

I do, although I am happy to use some of my wife's products, where appropriate.

I wouldn't have said there was any discernable difference.

When I received the package I was very dubious about this product, as you all know our nether regions are the most sensitive parts of our bodies, and with that in mind I first applied the cream very carefully. With a wet flannel at hand incase of emergency I did as instructed and was happily suprised to find that it applied with no sting or burning sensation. I tested the fresh version and it had a pleasant smell and did exactly what it said on the tube. There is a kind of stigma when it comes our private parts and I would get abit paranoid if I was gifted this product by friends or family, I would think they were hinting at something, but that said I would certainly buy it myself. I would like to see it on sale along side other deodorants or shaving products. Overall I found the smell, application and design of this product to be fantastic and I would recommend all men to try this product.. Walk, run, sit and be confident that your below smells just as good as your up tops.

The product works, being an active cyclist and a multi-drop lorry driver, as you can imagine things get a bit moist and warm down there. I can honestly say after using this that it is a lot better feeling and less clammy.

I was using it everyday, it is brilliant having a product like this in this pre summer that we are having at the moment. I have tested it to the extreme, where I am looking like a drowned rat and have still been comfortable between my legs and have noticed that there is a lot less chafing.

I would not be upset, it is the same as getting shower gel and deodorant, I would definitely use it as I know that it works, I would not have considered a product like this if i had not been given the opportunity to test it.

Up until now I have been using my partner's skin care products, it is about time that there were more specific products for men.

Self confidence, no, but definitely made life more comfortable and so was a lot happier sitting in traffic without feeling like I was wearing damp underwear.

Yes, I would definitely buy this as I am a convert to this type of product now.

I was very dissatisfied with the product. Maybe I have overly sensitive skin but the cooling ‘tingle’ after application was unpleasant and bordered on the downright painful. I noticed no difference in freshness or dryness.

Day to day after showering but that included daily 5 mile walks with the dogs.

I don’t dislike them but there is nothing particular specific neeeded. If I’ve felt sweaty down there in the past, I’ve just sprayed my normal deodorant which worked a treat.

On another point, I suspect I’m the wrong demographic for this product but why does it have to use crude language? I mean the instructions for Vagisil doesn’t use the word ‘flaps’ so why does this use ‘balls’? Groin or even scrotum would have been fine in my opinion.

Yes the product worked felt fresh all day and much more comfortable in this hot weather as I drive around all day for work nice and cool mainly used it daily and used after shower in the mornings and once as part of my routine for going out in the evening most things are focused on for women these days so it’s good that men are being recognised for body products too , wouldn’t say it improved my confidence but certainly felt fresher, would buy again,don’t think I would expect this as a present from anyone depends on who is gifting it if the wife I would think is she trying to tell me something lol if siblings would think as more of a joke present ,would expect to find it with the men’s shower gels etc have already recommended it to a few mates at work .

So I have to do a lot of walking for my job which can make you quite sweaty in certain places, I actually took this to work (kept in my locker),and on my break I applied to see if it would make me feel better. Well after an initial warming feeling it made me feel a hell of a lot fresher, cooler and not as sweaty so I was happy with the product but needed to reapply though the day to get the dry fresh feeling.

I used it for my general day to day but I walk a hell of a lot for my job (approx 12 miles a day).

I would feel embarrassed if it was bought for me as I do keep on top of my personal hygiene and I'd feel that whoever bought it me was trying to say something without words.

Not bothered as I use both male designed products and female designed products, whatever does the job best I will use.

It didn't make me feel more confident or improve my mood, it did make me feel less sweaty down there for a while, but my deodorant did that too.

I already have bought it again but this time as a spray instead of the cream, I bought it from a website that I use for male grooming products (www.lookfantastic.com).

I don't have many secrets for my work colleagues or family and yes I have talked about this product to them ... I told them how fresh it made me feel and less sweaty so saying it might be good for them to use as well I know it sounds weird to talk about this type of thing ( not the manly thing to talk about) but I have worked with the men for over 5 years and we talk about a lot worse than this so it wasn't that bad and my family apart from who I work with I told them to try it as it might make them feel better through the day.

Product received: Fresh and Dry Balls Cool

Overall satisfaction: I am happy with the product. I was somewhat worried that it might be a novelty item but it did actually work.

Did they feel fresh and dry all day?: Steady, thats quite an ask... but in the main, yes. In fact on the rare occasion I forgot to apply I certainly was aware that I was not using the product! Only at the end of a long back shift in the heat (bearing in mind I still shower and apply in the morning regardless) was there a hint of discomfort “below the belt” as opposed to suffering throughout the shift.

Usage: For me it was day to day regardless of wether I was engaging in sports or not.

How would I feel if I was given it as a present?: The same as when I saw the add for testers.. “for real? Seriously? OK, I’ll try it...”
Knowing what I know now I’ll happily buy it for myself. In fact, several of my colleagues have been persuaded to buy and try.

Do I like male specific products?: Yes, what’s not to like?

Did this improve my confidence/mood?: Not going to lie here, its a no. But I did feel it was a benefit and I intend to continue using.

Would I buy it again?: Yes. Looking forward to trying the “fresh” one next.

Would I recommend?: Already done it and will continue to do so.

I have never seen a product such as this before so I was keen to try it out. I definitely noticed the difference especially when waking up the next day and everything still smelt fresh.
I used this for day to day use but would use it for playing sport.
I would be happy to receive this as a gift especially as I have already used it.
It’s good to have products designed for men.
I wouldn’t say this improved my confidence but I can say that I was very impressed with the product and how effective it is.
I would purchase the product and would expect to see it in supermarkets, chemists, department stores, online etc

First of all I'd like to say thank you for choosing me as a tester (or should that be testee?).
I received the Cool version of the product.
I was a bit sceptical about applying what is effectively a deodorant to my intimate area and upon first application the tingle from the cooling effect did take me by surprise.
The fragrance is pleasant and once over the shock the tingle is actually quite nice.
I have quite an active and physical job and we have had some rather warm weather, so thought this would be perfect for putting Fresh and Dry through it's paces. I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed.
I didn't find it felt drier or fresher. I don't know if it smelt any fresher as my nose doesn't reach that far and so I have no benchmark for comparison.
I found it left a powdery residue which looked like a chronic case of dandruff each time I went to the toilet.
I don't think I would buy this product for what it has been intended, however it is marvellous when applied to your feet!
I think because intimate deodorant for men is not a common thing, it would be difficult for men to immediately include this as part of their cleansing routine (I kept forgetting to use it).
I can't see a situation arising where I would feel the need to recommend this, or any product of the same nature, to friends or family (it seems a bit weird).
I purchase/use grooming products based on intended use and performance rather than gender orientated.
Overall: Love the fragrance, smart packaging and the inner teenager in me did giggle at the product name and directions.

I was initially sceptical about the product, and was expecting a mediocre product that was purely marketing driven. However after using the product during the recent hot spell, I can state that it did indeed work, and helped significantly reduce the discomfort while sitting at a desk in a hot office all day. Initially I found the instructions confusing, since it states that it should be used when applying anti-perspirant, but I'm assuming that it actually meant then you use anti-perspirant on other parts of the body.

Generally used as part of my day-to-day routine, however also helped during long hours of gardening and DIY over the recent hot, sunny weekends.

It depends on who the gift was from. Generally it could be seen as a novelty gift (due to the name), but some people (not me personally) could take offence if given a product which is aimed at reducing the symptoms of a sweaty groinal area.

- Do you like products that are specifically designed just for men and the male body?
I generally prefer products which don't have an overwhelming "masculine" scent, and tend to stick to gender-neutral, unscented products where possible. Hoever, I found the "cool" scent subtle and inoffensive.

- Did you find that using this product improved your self confidence and/or mood in your day-to-day life?
It did make me less self-conscious of how I may smell towards the end of a working day, particulary in the confines of a small office environment; however I still felt the need for a good second wash down on really hot days.

- Would you buy Below the Belt Grooming Fresh & Dry Balls again? If so, where would you expect to find the product when shopping for it?
I would consider buying the product again, if I saw it on the shelf. However, I'm not sure if I would purposely hunt it down if it wasn't in plain view. I guess it depends on the pricing and availability.

I'm not sure whether I would recommend it during a typical conversation; however if a suitable topic came up in conversation (such as a changing room), then I would recommend it to them (under the assurance that it by no means meant that they were a stinky sod).

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by this it did actually work and lasted all day. I was definitely sceptical but was happy to be proved wrong.

Not really overly fussed. If it does a job for a part of the anatomy only us gentlemen have then yes. If you released a showergel would I buy it. Probably not.

After a couple of indoor 5 a side games in sauna like conditions due to current weather I'd say it was a bit of a boost. Can't say worrying aboit the state of my balls is a constant self worry though.

Yes definitely would. I imagine it to be with deodrant products.

Not hugely satisfied - I don't struggle significantly, but didn't feel it made much difference. It had a nice smell though (I had the fresh version).

Moderately satisfied - I don't have an issue with my balls feeling unfresh or wet each day so it's unlikely that the product was ever going to improve things in that department.

I'd wonder why I received it?! I can't see a situation whereby somebody would buy it for me. The only person that buys my cosmetic products is my wife and she generally sticks to the products I use regularly.

Yes, but these are generally limited to good quality moisturisers for the face and body.

Not at all but that would probably be the case for any other product that I use.

It's not something that I felt gave me any additional benefit. Perhaps if I had horrendously sweaty balls all the time, it would be something that I would use again if I knew it kept them dry. I'd expect to find it in somewhere like House of Fraser/John Lewis in the cosmetics section. Perhaps Boots but I wouldn't expect to see it in Tesco etc.
Would you recommend this product to a friend or family member?
No - for a couple of reasons. Firstly it would unlikely to ever come up in conversation and secondly because it made no difference to my overall general groin freshness. If in the event a friend mentioned they had an issue down there, then I would mention I tested it and they could give it a go.

It certainly helped me with 'freshness' issues. They felt nice and fresh without discomfort.

After an unforgetful accident with a bottle of aftershave when young and what I can only remember as 'great balls of fire', I initially treated the product with some trepidation. The shower head with blasts of cooling water was on standby just in case I felt the need to run around the house screaming 'they're on fire, they're on fire'.

Sometimes its good to be wrong. No blasts of water or Yorkshire fire brigade were needed.

I used it for everyday use on my jewels. As for sporting activities I found it gave me no advantages at any sort of sports with the tube far too small for either a tennis or Cricket bat. However in terms of exercise including 5 flights of stairs at work, sat for long periods of time at a computer and taking he manic spaniel for a walk. I felt nice and fresh. Or did the spaniel take me for a walk?

Now I have tried I would be happy. However unsolicited, I would have been concerned that whoever sent me it thought I had smelly balls and were they telling me some embarrassing news! 'Hey mate, you've got smelly balls!".

Depends on what it is and if it works!

I have no idea how cream cooled balls would improve my confidence! What a bizarre question!

Yes! Most defiantly. They sell it in Boots. Such a small amount is needed the tube lasts for ages!

Would you recommend this product to a friend or family member?

No. If I bought this for a family member, one would expect their foot rammed very quickly up my neither areas or in full in my mouth. It would be great way to lose friends.

Fresh & Dry Balls - Cool

Well I have to admit that when I was sent this to test I was dubious to say the least. To be honest I thought it was going to be a joke product.

Upon opening the package, I found the item eye catching. I then read the instructions on it and laughed. It is made so clear and concise as to what needs to be done that a lot of blokes I know couldn't fail to apply it properly.

Luckily I was given this during some of the really hot weather that we have been having to test, so I could really see if it worked.

I found that each time I applied it , there was a warm sensation. A milder warmth than when applying deep heat to your leg for example. It soon dried as if you had not applied it.

I then spent several hours working out in the heat digging and found that I did hot get hot and sticky bollocks like I might normally. They actually stayed cool and dry.

This is something that I would recommend to others that I think would get some benefit for it. Also, it is something that I would give as a gift to some of the women I know, knowing that it would get a laugh and they would make thier old man use it.

You only have to use the smallest amount. Unless of course you have an enormous sack, in which casr, the tube wont last as long.

This is something that I have applied on a daily basis and do intend to continue in the future.

I would say I was more satisfied than I expected to be with the freshness and dryness of my balls. I found the initial sensation pleasant, and experienced freshness and dryness for, I would say, a few hours. After this i didn’t consciously notice any difference, however saying that, I could tell that there was some applied. I found that there was not really being a dignified way to apply the fresh and dry to my balls, and if you’re ‘on the go’ you end up with a fresh and dry hand too.

The test product came at the perfect time coinciding with some extraordinarily hot weather, I used it both day to day and for cycling but both were fantastically hot my balls would certainly not have had a hope of being dry and fresh without the lotion.

It depends who gave it to me, having worked in a bicycle shop before which stocked the product I had considered giving it to someone in jest at the time, a little tongue in cheek. If it were given to me by someone familiar with both the problem giving it to offer a solution I would accept gratefully, similar to chamois cream in the cycling world.

Do I like products specifically for men? Not in general no, I feel it is usually a marketing exercise with manly fonts and colours. I generally use ‘women’s shower gels shampoos body lotions etc this particular product may not be suitable for women in the same way it is for men.

The product improved my mood after application, it was good, self confidence didn’t come into it.

Maybe at the right price, I think the bottle has lasted longer than I expected so that has been nice! I’d expect to find it in sports/running stores, if in supermarkets and chemists I’d look in the anti-perspirants/lotions

The short answer is no. While it did keep my nether region feeling good, well no exactly good, but not sweaty for the whole day, I didn't really notice much difference.

Primarily I used this for day to day use, I did on one evening after work go for a 5k jog. As this was at the end of the working day I had already started to feel a bit sweaty down below, particularly in the crease between my balls and inner thigh.

This is certainly not something you give as a gift. I'm sorry, but my balls are personal and would be a bit insulted if given this as a serious gift. Though, if I had mentioned to my wife that my balls have been getting sweaty lately and was advised of this product I might have been inclined to look it up.

Yes! Unreservedly. We males and our bodies are not the same as our ladies, not only physically but chemically (hormonal difference). Whereas I'm generally hot blooded more often that not, my other half is mostly cold (and don't I know it when she puts her cold feet on me at nighttime!)

I felt self assured before using this product insofar as I don't usually suffer from sweaty balls often. It made more self conscious if anything especially knowing that I was testing it.

No, I would buy this product. I clean myself daily and dry thoroughly after washing. Applying this product in additional to my daily routine seems unnecessary.

I'll be telling my closet mates about this trail and my thoughts on it, even so far as to recommend they try it for themselves, but not to influence their decision through praise. They can make up their own mind about it.

If anyone reading this does not know much about this product, it is similar to using aftershave cooling gel. If, for any reason, you are delicate in your nether regions and you shave down there or have a cut from scratching your balls, this product will sting momentarily. It will take a minutes or two to absorb and leave you dry. The Fresh version has a light pleasant scent, and is recommended to use after showering. I found it can also be used after a normal wash and does make you feel smooth and clean afterwards. I would not say it lasts all day and may not make much difference if you are already hygienic with your gonads.

Opening the tube, I was greeted by a pleasing scent reminding me of mint (which I love!). It goes on easily and was not at all greasy. There is a pleasant tingling coolness (I had the ‘cool’ version of the gel) and feeling of freshness.
