This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters and their babies, who have been testing a range of HiPP Organic baby food jars of both breakfast and savoury dishes.

Here’s what HiPP Organic have to say about their jars: “with our nutritious recipes, including a pure veg range, your child will develop a love for a variety of foods - including savoury and sweet. Offering more vegetables than fruit during weaning helps move your little one away from a natural preference for sweeter tastes, which may help reduce fussy eating later on. That’s why at HiPP Organic, our savoury recipes taste savoury.

“Jars allow babies to see and smell the food they are tasting, which is important for food recognition and acceptance. They’re also perfect for feeding with a spoon, encouraging hand-eye coordination and self-feeding.

“For more than 60 years, generations of babies have been raised on HiPP Organic's delicious and organic food. In fact, the family-run business produces the only organic jar range available in the UK!”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the below questions and completing the survey we’ll email you shortly.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

All testers who complete the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a ÂŁ300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes definitely!
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes we will.
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Creamy porridge
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I love the thickness, it is just right, its not too watery, it’s nice and soft and super easy for baby to eat. I also like the range of flavours, there is so much choice. I would say the biggest downside isn’t my boy is a big eater and one jar simply isn’t biggenough, he takes 2 jars plus some finger food lol

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Definitely yes, DD really enjoyed the testers. There seemed to be a slightly better range of flavours compared to other brands.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes, very good.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

The penne pasta one she absolutely loved. Also, the banana yogurt flavour was a massive hit - she cried when it ran out Grin

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

The only down side is some were very orange (Bolognaise) and stained her skin for a little while even after washing. Plus sides is only natural simple ingredients, good flavours, great texture - thick enough so she could chew and it didn't run off the spoon.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

Yes i would

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Yes i would

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

They liked all of them and there was a good range of flavours. Their favourite was probably creamy porridge breakfast and buttered vegetables.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

I liked that they weren't watery and also that they tasted of what they're supposed to taste of. Perfect consistency and jar size for a 6 month old. Mine are almost a year but i used the jars to supplement finger food meals. i like the fact that they're organic and they seem to have a high fruit/veg content listed. I've bought HIPP before but didn't know they had so many flavours so I'll definitely look out for more HIPP products.

  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Yes I would
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? The breakfast jars were her favourite

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes if they wanted to wean with purée
  2. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? Most likely
  3. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? Either the penne pasta or the banana breakfast one
  4. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? I found the buttered vegetable one quite a strange texture. It was also ds least favourite - all the others went down in about 2 minutes! Agree with pp that the jars are quite small and only 70cals so unlikely to fill up babies much older than 6months. Ds had 2 of the savoury jars flr dinner last night in addition to finger food and yogurt to fill him up.

Thanks for picking me to test, have just finished the last jar for breakfast!

  1. Yes
  2. Yes but only because I have done this trial. I usually find feeding jars is a bit of a taboo and we don’t really talk about it because we all feel we should be making homemade!
  3. The buttered vegetables were scoffed really quickly and both the porridge and the banana yogurt went down very well. All were enjoyed though.
  4. I thought they all looked and tasted a bit similar...the penne, the Bolognese, the veg. Be interesting to see if there is more variety, all very carrot based and seemed quite sweet. I would buy them again though and really liked the fact that it’s not just Ella’s kitchen which is organic!

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes I would. But my baby is now 9 months and I felt he was a bit old for them and they would be better for someone earlier in the weaning process.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? No but I would if I had a younger baby. Although I did find they make excellent sauces for pasta/rice/potatoes as well as being fed as a meal in themselves.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

He loved the breakfast ones and the Bolognese in particular, but he ate all of them.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Personally (and this may just be the selection we were sent) I found the flavours to be a bit samey. I do like with Ella's pouches for example that there seems to be a wider range of flavours using more herbs and spices.

I also think they are for younger babies than 9 months and this should perhaps be more specific on the packet.

I haven't received a survey link yet!

The contents but not the jars - shame that the packaging is glass (worries about breakages if taken out for the day).

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

Possibly.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

Probably the banana yogurt though the fish and vegetables came a close second.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

Apart from the porridge (which she just refused and would not eat) my 7 month old has enjoyed them all. My only criticisms are re the packaging and a suggestion that maybe they have a little more texture. I know some of my friends’ babies have struggled with anything not puréed and then sieved but that isn’t my experience and i’d Be reluctant to regularly feed something so lacking in texture when weaning.

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes, but as my baby is now 10 months old and eats lots of table food, I’m hoping there are some with chunkier textures and probably won’t buy the smooth ones again. (Although, they would be a good pasta sauce for a quick lunch!)
  3. The breakfast ones and the Sweet squash and chicken.
  4. DS doesn’t usually eat bought baby food but I’ve been trying to find some that he will eat occasionally for convenience. He seemed to really like lots of the flavours and actually finished jars for the first time ever. I felt that that flavours were a bit bland and some more adventurous flavours could be introduced (spices?). I liked that the purées were quite thick so stayed on the spoon when he tries to feed himself. As mentioned above, I’d would like chunkier textures from about 7 months on so hope that HiPP already make some.

  4. I liked that it's organic and had a wide range to choose from. Disliked that the jars were small

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? I have already bought a couple of jars.

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? My child loved the flavours and taste as she cleared them without looking back.

What I did not like was the fact that it came in small sized jars as my child has an appetite.

  1. Yes I’d recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby.
  2. I would buy HiPP Organic jars again, but they were very smooth and my baby prefers lumps so would maybe try the older range.
  3. Out of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, my baby’s favourite was the banana breakfast porridge and the buttered vegetables.
  4. I liked the range of flavours available and the ease to warm them . My baby liked the flavours but would prefer lumps as likes to eat finger foods too.

  1. Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby? Yes, but only for a baby that is just starting out with weaning, as the jar size is quite small and not enough for my 11 month old.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again? No, but only because the serving size is not adequate for an older baby.

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite? The banana yoghurt!

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried? He liked all of the flavours except the fish pie but unfortunately we wouldn't buy them due to the small portion size.

1.Would you recommend HiPP Organic jars to a friend or family member about to wean their baby?

*I primarily use readymade baby food when I am out and about and personally I find the pouches easier to transport/store. However for someone who is using readymade food more regularly then yes I would recommend these jars of food. There seems to be a good variety of meals and options.

  1. Would you buy HiPP Organic jars again?

*
I would again and have done before, I like to keep a range of different options in the cupboard for my LO but as I don't use them often I probably wouldn't buy many. *

  1. Of the 8 HiPP Organic jars, which was your baby’s favourite?

*
To be honest my baby is like a human dustbin. I haven't found anything that she doesn't like to eat 🤦‍♀️ She liked them all equally. *

  1. What did you and your child like and/or dislike about the HiPP Organic jars you tried?

*
My child liked that I could get her food ready quicker by using them. It also gave a bit of variety to her breakfast as she usually has readybrek most mornings.

Personally I didn't like the smell of the fish pie one. It smelt exactly like the food that I feed my fish. My cat however was a big fan, she jumped on the table and tried to pinch it. Regardless of this my LO still wolfed it down!*
