RebeccaEMumsnet · 28/04/2016 11:08

This is the feedback thread for the MN testers who are trying out our Mumsnet Pregnancy Tracker app.

There's no such thing as a textbook pregnancy - but the chances are, whatever you're going through, someone else has been through, too. Our free, week-by-week tracker app combines the medical facts with advice drawn from the real-life experiences of thousands of other mums to guide you all the way through your pregnancy - and beyond.

The app is available in iTunes here

The app is sponsored by Persil Non-bio and Comfort Pure, here’s what they have to say: "We are really excited to be partnering with the Mumsnet Pregnancy Tracker App, which gives mums to be all the wisdom they need ahead of their new arrival. Specially formulated for delicate skin, Persil Non-Bio and Comfort Pure are a favourite with parents as they help to care for and protect a baby’s sensitive skin, making this partnership a natural fit for us during this special time."

Testers - please share with us below:

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful? Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
What else would you like to see in the app?
How easy or difficult was it to use?
Any other comments?

All testers who take part and who add feedback as requested, will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £300 John Lewis voucher. Don't forget to also add your review here

Thanks and good luck

I like the information provided especially about the changes my body is facing and how my baby is developing.
I would recommend it to other parents because it has good information and I like that you get a notification each week.
I would like maybe some daily information as well as weekly and maybe some videos. It is a easy app to use.

I found the medical update sections most useful, but I wouldn't recommend it to other parents because it is really just an advertising gimmick.
I would be more interested in an app that wasn't supported by brands, but was well integrated with the mn site.
The app is very easy to use.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
The information about how baby is developing

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I don't think so, there isn't really that much to the app and a decent blog tells me more information

What else would you like to see in the app?
More information- perhaps a list of common pregnancy problems and questions.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Pretty easy

Any other comments?
Very nice design, let down at the moment by lack of content.

The easiness of the app.
Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
No, not enough information on it.
What else would you like to see in the app?
Size guide, pictures, stories from really people.
How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very easy.
Any other comments?
Needs a lot more information.

Weekly updates.
Quite a basic app.
It would be better if there were more detailed pictures/ real life scan equivalents.
Also no mention of foetus size at various stages 😟

I think the information on there at the moment is very limited so I wouldn't recommend it to other Mums because it's so basic it's not all that helpful.

Not sure about the Persil advertising.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I like the quick links to the mumsnet discussions and the information relevant to each week, eg at 20 weeks there is information about the scan.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Not yet, it still seems a bit lacking in detail, but has potential to improve.

What else would you like to see in the app?
Definitely more photos of babies at different stages of development. Perhaps more links to medical information or support organisations.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Any other comments?
I think it was easy to use and there is some fun imagery. I read through it all very quickly- could have done with a bit more to read.
I want sure about the bump photo and note to baby pages- would they be shared with others?

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I liked the information given each week and the fact it's very easy to use and switch between weeks.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
No I wouldn't because it's very basic and doesn't have a lot of information. Also there's too much advertising. You can get better pregnancy apps for free with little or no advertising.

What else would you like to see in the app?
More info each week. Size information about the baby and a comparison (fruit is the typical one!). Better pictures of baby.
How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very easy to use

Any other comments?
I didn't understand the affiliation with Persil. Would have been better without that.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
Definitely the sections on your body and the baby, although it would be great if it could be more detailed.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I have already (a colleague is also pregnant). I said it was useful, albeit a little limited on information.

What else would you like to see in the app?
I would've found it useful to have links to, for example, other parts of mumsnet, rather than just talk. Perhaps links to other blogs/NHS website? I would've liked to have a seen a worries/fears myth busters section.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
It was really easy to use, very intuitive.

Any other comments?
Just to reiterate, more detail would be great.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I liked the information about what's happening to me and to baby and the links to talk.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Possibly but I'm not sure it's better than other apps and the information is a little limited. Maybe in addition to something else.

What else would you like to see in the app?
A bit more detailed information, perhaps links to NHS or other similar information.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Fairly easy but it took me a while to get orientated to it.

Any other comments?
I love the look of it, it's far more stylish than other apps and a bit different which I really liked.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
week by week baby updates
Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
No, doesn't offer anything extra compared to other pregnancy apps
What else would you like to see in the app?
Baby names finder
How easy or difficult was it to use?
Some articles on particular topics are linked to certain weeks, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to search by topic, just by week
Any other comments?
No

What aspects of the mumsnet pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I really liked the way the app has different sections such as 'your body, baby, food to avoid' etc. This broke all the information down. The links to the pregnancy threads were also very useful. It was nice that it has a section for bump selfies too.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Yes definitely, I have tried quite a few free pregnancy apps and this one was by far the most informative and easy to navigate.

What else would you like to see in the app?
It would be useful if there was a search bar in the pregnancy thread section, I couldn't see one.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very clear and easy to use. Of all the apps I have tried this was definitely the easiest to navigate.

Any other comments?
A very handy app, especially for first time parents. Although I was unsure why someone would use the 'note to baby' function as, for me, this would probably say things like 'I want cake/ I'm huge/ why can't I stop peeing/ I can't see my toes'.

What aspects of the mumsnet pregnancy app did you find most useful?

The information on what's happening to baby and my body this week.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

No, it's just too basic. Only worth looking st once a week and even then I get so much more information from other free apps I use.

What else would you like to see in the app?

Daily information, size charts to see how big
Baby is this week. Somewhere to log symptoms, this could be easily linked to discussion threads.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very easy, however if the content were to be increased I think the current format would be too fiddly. A central menu drop down would be helpful.

Any other comments

I don't like the branding, it appears to be the main point of the app rather than information about pregnancy.

  • What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

I loved the hints and tips on the first page. I have just hit week 35 and thought it was great that I was hit by a pack your bags message followed by lots of information around the subject (what partners should know, things to pack etc) The way the information is linked around a theme is really helpful

- Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Most definitely as it is down to earth, gives good solid information as well as anecdotes that made me laugh

- What else would you like to see in the app?
The only other thing that might be useful is a things to look out for section. I have only seen the last few weeks but a pointer of when to start counting the kicks and links to campaigns, what issues can arise and reminders to seek midwife or other medical help. Weird sensations that you might be feeling and why they happen. There is so much to worry about in pregnancy and sometimes it's hard to find the words (or courage) to ask the questions of medical professionals

- How easy or difficult was it to use?
Really easy, very intuitive. Simple interface, good layout and good balance between text and images

- Any other comments?
More anecdotes please, the information was brilliant but it was the little comments from people who have been through it before that set this apart from the other pregnancy apps I have used.

I found the hints and tips useful and I also liked the section of what appointments you have.
I would recommend it but it does need more content such as size of baby and more info.
I would just like to see a bit more info.
Loved how easy it is to flip through sections/pages and the layout of each page.
I would def download and use it from the start of my next pregnancy.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
I found the related articles to each week the most useful and the ability to look at relevant threads on the Mumsnet boards.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
Yes. I'd recommend it for it's ease of use and for the weekly updates but I would also recommend that they downloaded another app or two for other unique features that aren't included in the Mumsnet app.

What else would you like to see in the app?
I'd like to see more fun shareable features like the graphics in the Ovia app which show you how big your baby's hand is at the moment in relation to your screen.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
The app is easy to use and intuitive.

Any other comments?
It would be good to see more personal stories built into the app along with live updates from the Mumsnet blog network.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
Lots of information available on a wide range of topics. I also liked the section where you can write your own notes and add your own pictures. The pregnancy journey is so different for everyone it's good to be able to personalise it to me. I also like the quotes from parents.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I probably wouldn't recommend it as I don't think it's the best app out there. Although there is lots of information, it is not easy to find your way around the app and I find it a bit too wordy. I would also like to be able to see something new every day/few days to make it worth while logging on. At the moment I could read it all at once, with no need to revisit.

What else would you like to see in the app?
More pictures and visual things that are about the baby and pregnancy.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
I didn't think it was that obvious how the app should be used. The front screen doesn't really show you what is available underneath.

Any other comments?
I understand the app is sponsored but the adverts are too imposing and put me off.

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?
The information about different stages linked to your week of pregnancy. Scan information.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
I think it is ok, some points are useful, if it had more funny mumsnet advice as well as key important things to remember. It is not that easy to work out how to navigate, so maybe...

What else would you like to see in the app?
Funny but useful advice. Key things you have to do and It would be good to have check lists, notes for reminders under key sections. Better instructions on navigation, a main contents page perhaps. I would like to see info on best products and new products and at what stage to think about getting the things you will need. Help on what you can wear for breast feeding, and tips on how to juggle looking after other children at the same time-from real mums who have been through it.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
After playing around for a while I realised you could scroll down to find more text and info on each page. But it was not obvious. I took a photo of my bump

Any other comments?
Make it a bit different from other apps, funny but informative, with more interactivity, key dates, things you should be doing listed in bullet points with check boxes and with notes sections for me- not just 'make a note for baby', (is baby ever going to look at it?? - you can't print it out and you will probably change your phone by the time they can read- if you have any money left...Hmm..)

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful?

I liked the real life experience links to discussions.

Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?

Not quite yet. I'd like to see more information about baby - size etc. I've tried 7 different apps and this is my second favourite.

What else would you like to see in the app?

More information about the growing baby.

How easy or difficult was it to use?

I found it a bit tricky to navigate on the first use but after a bit of playing around I got the hang of it.

Any other comments?

It's an improvement on the last mumsnet pregnancy app, you're going in the right direction!

What aspects of the Mumsnet Pregnancy app did you find most useful? Would you recommend it to other parents? Why?
The information about the baby and things to expect. Also liked the place to store bump pics, that's a nice idea! Probably wouldn't recommend yet as I think there's better out there.

What else would you like to see in the app?
More information at the very very early weeks, not a lot changed and there's nothing there at all for 3 weeks! I know most people don't know, but I did and thought the app was broken as there was nothing there. Mid also like something new every day to keep me coming back.

How easy or difficult was it to use?
Very easy

Any other comments?
Bit more work needed but coming along well so far!

-Most useful:
The hints and tips and the fact it's all a timely reminder. I don't mind it being basic as I have other apps for more in depth baby development info, and also with this as a second pregnancy I haven't got as much time to read it all. It's just a nice reminder as to what (approximately) the baby is up to now. And I'd forgotten to do any pelvic floor exercises, so that was very useful.

-Would I recommend it?
Yes, depending on the person

-what would I like included?
I like the humorous wording that crops up, but it's inconsistent. I'd like more of that!

-easy to use?
Very. Intuitive, and I like the wheel to change weeks (I wanted to flick back to the weeks that I've missed so far and that was straight forward)

-any other comments?
Well laid out, good appearance. I like the idea of sorting bump selfies on it; not sure how popular the notes to the baby would be.
