Gitft Wink are looking for 250 UK Mumsnetters with a child at home to try out their site Giftwink.com, a new birthday alert and gift suggestion service.

Here's what the team at Gift Wink say: "Gift Wink is a brand new site taking the stress out of buying birthday presents for children. All you have to do is add the birthdays of the important people in your life (especially your nieces, nephews and godchildren), and we take care of the rest. Our team of gift spotting mums source the best and most beautiful gifts from leading high street retailers as well as boutique discovery brands, and then email you birthday reminders with handpicked gift recommendations in plenty of time.Feel supremely organised and make someone's day, and never forget an important birthday again."

Selected testers will be asked to visit the website //www.giftwink.com and spend some time getting to know the site by browsing gifts, signing up and adding birthdays. We'd then like testers to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. Everyone who is selected and gives feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

If you're interested in taking part, please sign up here www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/53BVD78

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Do they take into account likes and dislikes? Or is it more like a sponsored thing where companies pay them to recommend their products as gifts?

Where's the fun in that? I love gift shopping. And bargains!

I don't have 'a child at home' but I do have plenty of children to buy for, nephews, nieces, godchildren, friends' children and so on. Pity I can't enter!

Although having looked at the website, I would like to know if they subscribe to 'Let Toys Be Toys'... maybe not?: "Ioana is an expert in buying trucks, trains and airplanes for her two year old son, but is always clueless when it comes to buying the perfect gift for little girls." One of my nieces loves playing with trucks and trains...

Hi Lunar1, Gift Wink noticed your query and wanted to respond. Here's their response below :)

"All our gifts are handpicked by mums, and we tailor the gift recommendations by age and gender. We do ask our users for their likes and dislikes, so that we can make more personalised gift recommendations in the future. None of our gift recommendations are paid for by companies.

We'll also be looking at other ways of curating our gifts in the future, such as users being able to recommend their favourite gifts. All ideas would be greatly appreciated."

Thank you Zane, I'll fill in the survey then. I just didn't want to if it turned out to be advertising.

I had a look, these people need to know soft toys are a total waste of time and money! If my kids get given them (they are 3 and 4) I just charity shop them because by this age they have one soft toy they are attached to and don't need more. The aren't original or educational.

Other gifts are actually things I've bought - Boden dress in Age 4, Emma Bridgewater mug, tutu etc.

Also would be interested if the model worked by paying a monthly direct debit, which would mean that gists were paid for over the course of the year. ie I would happily pop in £30 a month if I knew I could get five kids birthday and Xmas presents sorted without having to do too much.

Will the gifts be wrapped and can they be posted internationally? Thanks.

It's a shame dads aren't picking out gifts also. DH is a great gift buyer and comes up with much more awesome ideas than me (he is the stomp rocket to my book token).

Done. Sounds like a useful idea for someone as disorganised as me!

I agree with ClimbedEveryMountain they need to get rid of the gender thing. We are in 2016 - it is utterly normal and every day to get girls who play with tech, balls, cars etc and boys who enjoy creative and empathy play.
In fact, surely the whole point of a brand like this is to dodge the pathetic feeling one gets with the 10th generic Disney princess colouring book to be unwrapped at the party... if I am getting suggestions, I want proper suggestions not gender tick box stuff.

MrsMarigold I know a lot of 4 and 5 year olds who do like soft toys - and they are useful educationally yes yes I am a trained teacher and playworker in terms of imaginative play, empathetic play and, for many. sensory comfort. So they aren't useless just because some kids don't like them.

I like this idea
I guess the gender distinction will suit some and not others
I'd love to give it a go and see what suggestions I get

I've read this three times now, as Giftwank. Which is probably not the service they're offering. Send me the voucher asap.
