We're on the hunt for MNers to test Mumsnet Flendr, an online platform for organising cash collections and fundraising activities.

The idea is to make it easier to do things like club together for a joint birthday present, collect for a teachers' end-of-year gift, or fundraise for something you care about. All lovely activities, but they often involve some fairly tedious money admin too.

So, if you've ever found yourself stuffing crumpled fivers into envelopes - or having an awkward ‘Er, could give me that money you promised’ conversation with a late payer, then we're hoping Mumsnet Flendr will help.

It's really easy to set up a collection, and people who pledge to chip in get auto-reminders. Contributors can make payments by PayPal, payment card or bank transfer, and organisers get alerts when there's a contribution. And unlike some other big fundraising platforms, all your money will go to your chosen cause, with no hidden charges or fees.

If you’re interested in testing Mumsnet Flendr, please click here to sign up.

If selected, we'll send you login details for the beta version and you can tell ell us what you think of the website and the collection process – all feedback gratefully received!

As a further thank you for being a tester, MN Flendr have agreed to contribute £10 to all collections above £30 with more than 3 contributors e.g. if you start a collection for a teacher's present, and get a combined total of £30 or more from 3 different people, Mumsnet Flendr will add £10 to your collection!

All testers will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Many thanks and good luck!

Is it really called Flendr? I'm not sure today is the best day to launch something with such a silly name.

Signed up, the DCs are fundraising for next summer's Jamboree, this might help!

I don't have any use for this but Flendr is a really stupid name.

YesThisIsMe · 01/04/2016 18:36

Surely Flendr suggests that you're lending money, no?

Report
SoupDragon · 01/04/2016 18:54

I agree in my head it is a mix of friend and lend.

Brilliant idea, not a great name tho. The costs for just giving & the like are a bit much. I've not got anything in the pipeline at the mo but will have a think....

Can you actually fundraise now with this or is it just a test?

Has this been improved, we did a test with this a year ago or so.

Great idea. Awful name.

Speaking of collections, does anyone have a creative idea for coaches' gifts? Other than the usual wine, flowers, etc?

I've just filled in the survey monkey, but not sure I've completed it correctly - can MN please check for me? Thanks ever so ...

Thanks for all of your comments so far. It sounds like some of you think Flendr should have a different name. What do you think it should be called? Flendr are open to suggestions! The best suggestions will receive an extra £10 credit on their first successful collection Smile

Flendr is a terrible name and I thought that before I saw other comments.ConfusedHmmShockHmmConfusedShock
I don't want to sign up but i think it's great idea.
I don't like the 'cost' of using JustGiving and similar platforms. I know they have costs and are a business but I'd rather 100% of my money to whatever cause it is that I wish to support.

Oh and Stop, VirginMoneyGiving is normally a better option because it only charges 2% not 5% like JustGiving

This is a really great service. I am pretty sure they don’t charge you any fees so is completely free to use.. Last time I checked, Virgin Money charge 2% and JustGiving are even worse by charging 5%!

But why Flendr in the first place?

Report

I like the idea. I see it time and time again when mums get together for a meal and there's always at least one person who 'forgets'. Get all the money upfront would be so helpful. Teacher collections too. I never have cash in the playground with me. However can't think what i would use it for right now. Again, love the idea but Flender? How about;

Kittyfund
Kittycollecter
Fundpot
Funditfree (it's got no fees right?)

Anything but flender. Sounds like bender.

As a fundraising professional JustGiving is worth every penny we pay. Every penny. It is the easiest platform by far to use and provides excellent service, plus donors like using it hence they raise more. It costs money to raise money but we get a hell of a better return than you'd get from investments, by hiring good staff and using good tools.

Is it possible to answer the survey without testing flendr? I haven't got anything needing it on the horizon.

Also, if you are putting it up against just giving & virgin giving, will you have the gift aid possibility?

I also find flendr a poor name.

I suppose easywhipround and justcollecting don't really work either Grin

ok so forgetting the name for a sec... has anyone used the site or looked round it? i just had a peek and it actually looks quite good. at first i was like "ugh ... come on, not yet another thing to sign up for" but... looks really easy to use, especially for payers. great way to "cashlessly collect". i'm class parent rep and will totally try this for end of year gift.
