This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are testing out beds by Slumberland. Testers were able to choose from a range of mattresses and between a double (135cm) or king size (250cm) Divan Set.

Here’s what Slumberland have to say, "Here at Slumberland we know the importance of sleep as a part of a healthy lifestyle, when you have the best night’s sleep possible, you live longer, look better, feel better, concentrate more and perform better at work and play. We understand how the quality of your bed can affect your sleep. Slumberland mattresses are made using a blend of four innovative materials, so that every aspect of your sleep is nurtured.”

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback three times- we'd like your first impressions now and your experience of choosing the bed, and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test it out.

So, to start, Slumberland would love to know:

-Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
-What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
-What are your first impressions of your new bed?
-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?

Now that you've had a week or two to get used to your new bed, we have a few more questions that we'd like to ask:

  • How would you describe your experience of the delivery of your bed?
  • Do you feel as though your quality of sleep has changed since receiving your new bed?
  • What's the most positive thing about your new bed?
  • So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?

Finally, now that you've had your beds for a month or more, we'd like you to answer these questions:

- Please describe the effect that it has had on your quality of sleep (and that of your partner if applicable).
- Would you recommend a Slumberland Mattress to your best friend?
- If you were to buy a bed again in the future, would you consider buying a Slumberland mattress?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Slumberland on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Which mattress and bed size did you choose? Serene in king size
-What was important to you when choosing your new bed? Comfort, style and longevity
-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory? It was hard to pick which mattress as they all felt so luxurious, however I was given in-depth product knowledge and not rushed at all. I learnt about beds and the best position to sleep in. The whole experience was fantastic, from the security man on the gate until we left, everyone was so welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly. The information was pitched perfectly. I really enjoyed it all, the staff are a real credit to the company.
-What are your first impressions of your new bed? Stylish and super comfortable, I felt like the bed was hugging me.
-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why? Yes, we currently have a very old, part broken mattress which is very difficult to get comfortable on. The serene mattress felt so luxurious, I am actually dreading getting in bed tonight, after having a taste of what a 'proper' bed feels like.

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
I chose the Serena mattress on a king-sized base. The Tempo was also very comfortable and supportive, but the Serena was slightly more sumptuous!

What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
Supportive mattress, good air circulation to stop me getting too hot (age-related!), style and storage options.

How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
The visit to the factory was brilliant! The staff were all friendly and welcoming from the minute I drove up to the gate. I was offered refreshments on my arrival and made to feel at ease. Everyone was very personable, and knowledgeable , and seem to genuinely believe in their products. There was a great dynamic between the staff at all levels, and I drove away thinking it must be a great place to work. The people I met were a credit to the company.

The process of choosing the bed was made very easy. The technical information was pitched just right, and it was interesting to see the innards of the mattress and feel how it worked. I was given as much time as I needed to test the beds and make up my mind, and any questions I had were answered fully.

A very positive experience all round.

What are your first impressions of your new bed?
The bed in the showroom was sooooo comfortable. I didn't want to get to get up! The finish was high quality, and the bases came in a nice range of colour options.

So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
If the experience laying on the bed in the factory is anything to go by, this bed will transform my sleep! My current mattress sags in the middle and is far too hot. I cannot remember the last time I slept for more than five hours, and the lack of quality sleep has definitely impacted on my physical health and concentration. At this point I am optimistic that the research that has gone into developing this mattress will provide me with the optimum foundation for a good's night sleep. I can't wait to test it out at home!

Thank you Slumberland (Steinhoff UK) and Mumsnet for the perfect excuse to stay in bed for extended periods of time Wink.

Actually my Fitbit tracks my sleep (length and quality) so it will be interesting to see the statistics over the next few weeks. Not entirely scientific I grant you, but perhaps a good indication.

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?

We chose the grace mattress with ottoman base in King size.

-What was important to you when choosing your new bed?

It was really important to us that the bed was supportive and comfortable, I wanted to be able to lay in it and if dh moved about it not make me move iyswim? We quickly narrowed it down to two different mattresses, the grace or the serene and then spent some time going between to two before settling in the grace. We preferred having springs and it just felt the best, as I got into it u had that 'ahhhh' moment when a bed just feels perfect and the best thing ever.

We also considered the fact that baby, due easter is likely to end up in our bed, I will spend a lot if time feeding etc so I made a point if lying in a position I would bfeed in!

It was comfort and support that were the main things for the bed mattress and then storage hence opting for the ottoman base, which just looked amazing.

-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?

I think it was fairly easy, we were able to narrow the mattress choices down fairly quickly and then took our time choosing between final two. The staff were brilliant answering our questions and there was no rush or pressure to choose. They gave good information on the types of mattresses and helped identify what was important to us, covering stuff like me having allergies/eczema so I wanted breathability and don't like getting too hot. Also firmness of mattress.

It was easy to choose the base, as soon as we saw the storage capacity of the ottoman we knew we had to have that. Colour wise I let my husband choose and he opted for kiwi... I think I will need to get new bedding to match. But I wasn't fussed over colour, all the options were really nice and I liked the modern styling of the headboards.

Our experience at the factory was really positive, all the staff were a credit to the company, welcoming and friendly. Refreshments were offered on arrival and again when filling in paperwork, oh and we got the goody bags, my 13yr old has pinched the pedometer!

Any questions we had were answers well, staff took their time to make sure we were well looked after, even though we were with a group of others it still felt like there was the personal touch and time was given to everyone. I would recommend slumberland purely from customer service point if view as the staff really were lovely and welcoming.

It was just a really good experience.

-What are your first impressions of your new bed?

We don't have the bed yet but first impressions at the factory were great, good quality, loved the designs and all the beds felt comfortable.

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?

I am desperate for the bed to arrive as am sure it will help my sleep, am 35wks preg and currently sleeping in a futon which we have always loved but we were wanting a new bed with storage and better mattress. It's the comfort tgat I think will help, it just felt so supportive for my pelvis and back and much easier to get in/out than our current bed.

Obviously my sleep is disturbed due to pregnancy and will be when baby arrives but it feels like the sleep I can get will be quality sleep. Really can't wait for the new bed to arrive!

Thankyou slumberland and Mumsnet for the chance to do this product test.

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
We chose the serene mattress in king size.

-What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
My husband gets a bad back, and I have dodgy hips, so it was very important to us to have a bed that met both our requirements. We wanted to feel well supported, comfortable, and most importantly have an excellent night sleep.

-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
The whole experience has been fantastic so far.
From the welcome from the lovely man at the gate, to the moment we left, everyone we met was helpful, professional and friendly. I didn't at any point feel like I was 'there to get a free bed'. It was like we were customers.
David was full of knowledge and information, and clearly has a passion for the company.
Hazel was friendly and helpful throughout.

We were provided with sufficient information and time to make an informed decision, and helped throughout.

I thought deciding on the bed would be difficult at first, as the tempo felt very comfortable until we tested the serene. It's lovely and we are very excited for its arrival.

-What are your first impressions of your new bed?
It's like lying on a (very well supported) cloud. Can't wait to see how much it improves my sleep!

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
I do. Our current bed is old and broken, so that won't be hard! But after finding out about the technology and knowledge that has gone into creating the bed to give the best nights rest possible, I can't see how it wouldn't improve a nights sleep.

Thank you to all involved.

WHICH MATTRESS AND BED SIZE
We chose the Grace mattress. King sized, base with drawers.

WHAT WAS IMPORTANT WHEN CHOOSING YOUR BED? Comfort. That's about it, really! Aesthetics don't make that much difference to a mattress. I must admit I am not a huge fan of divan bases (we have a sleigh bed that we love, and when the testing period is over we plan to use the new mattress on that) but I know plenty of people would disagree.

HOW EASY WAS THE PROCESS OF CHOOSING THE BED, AND HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR EXPERIENCE AT THE FACTORY? Well firstly, our experience was very good. Very interesting, informative discussions about mattresses. They were very patient with us - that's pretty important!! But the process wasn't easy. My husband (why on earth did I bring him?!?) and I disagree hugely in beds. So the one we chose was a compromise. I guess there isn't much really anyone can do to help! We would have loved to be told "right, you should get THIS one" but unfortunately no-one can do that!!

WHAT ARE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF YOUR NEW BED? To be honest, I'm not a fan of foam. So my first impressions are a bit tempered. I'd also like to have had a firmer mattress, but my husband would have preferred a soft one and the grace seemed a good compromise. When we went home and googled it, we were amazed to find that this is quite an expensive mattress. So my impressions are improving - surely something that expensive MUST be awesome??

DO YOU THINK YOUR BED WILL IMPROVE YOUR SLEEP, AND HOW? I hope so!! Our current set up is a mattress with a foam topper, sitting upside down on the bed frame, and a feather topper on that! It's so thick that even the extra deep sheets don't fit and the whole thing comes loose. not helpful, exotically when the toddler climbs in too. I'm worried about being hot, and I'm also worried that I won't like the "feel" of foam - these two issues are why the current mattress is upside down! Fingers and toes crossed that this mattress is the best thing since sliced bread :)

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?

  • I tried both beds on offer- the Tempo and the Serene. Both felt very, very comfortable to me and I would have been happy with either.

I opted for the Serene in King size, as it just felt so luxurious.

What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
  • I have a feeling I was the only one who went to the factory on their own. DP couldn't take the time off, so I was thinking for the two of us. So many things would normally be important to me - cost would have been high up on my list. That taken out of the equation, comfort on a long term basis was the most important consideration. Our current bed is over 15 years old, was a good bed when we bought it, but is now like sleeping in a trough, with deep dips on either side. The fact that this Slumberland bed claims to keep it's shape for a lot longer (indefinitely?) is a real plus point. It's also a no-turn mattress, which appeals a lot. Lugging a massive, heavy king-size mattress over every time we change the sheets has been a pain, to say the least. Appearance is also a big factor, and I opted to purchase a headboard to go with the bed. There was a good range of styles and colours. I hope I made the right choice!

How easy was the process of choosing the bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
  • Everything about the day was very positive, from getting directions (easy to follow), arriving and being greeted like a welcome guest, to the relaxed but informative and positive experience inside the factory, thanks to the Slumberland staff. We were given plenty of time to ask questions, to try out the beds, to look at all options and ask about extras. No pressure, just made to feel completely at ease.

What are your impressions of the new bed?
  • it hasn't yet arrived, but based on my experience at the factory, I can't wait. It was really properly comfortable.

Do you think your bed will improve your sleep and why?
I very much hope so! I hope it improves how we BOTH sleep, as a restless sleep from either of us means we both have a bad night. A new bed is long overdue, and this new bed will hopefully mean I sleep for longer and more deeply. I currently seem to wake every hour or so in a certain amount of discomfort as our current mattress is so rubbish. Looking back, I can't remember the last time I managed to sleep more than about 5 hours. I'm looking forward to lounging around in bed for much longer. Just breakfast in bed to sort now ...

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
We chose the Grace mattress in kingsize.

What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
Primarily it was comfort and quality, we have had mattreses before that that have aged particularly badly and needed replacing within 5 years. We also needed a large amount of storage space.

How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
I found it very hard to judge the differences between each bed and the different hardness levels. The people at the factory were very friendly and helpful, with absolutely no pressure about spending any money on extras. I am really pleased that Slumberland are making real investment in British manufacturing and I think the Slumberland staff I met share an enthusiam for this.

What are your first impressions of your new bed?
The bed looks fantastic, we chose an ottoman in the grey colour and it really looks very high quality. The mattress is extremely deep and well made.

So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
The bed is replacing one that although is only 5 years old is already "dipping" where we lay. I am confident that the new bed will be more comfortable and will provide even support.

I'd also like to say a big thank you to the delivery men, as lugging a kingsize ottoman bed up two flights of stairs is no easy task!

Serene mattress in a king size.

-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
We weren't sure whether to go for king size or super king - we decided king size was probably more sensible. We knew which mattress, headboard and colour we wanted immediately. Everyone at the factory was very friendly and helpful.

-What are your first impressions of your new bed?
It looks great!

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
The new mattress is so much more comfortable than our old one and we are very pleased with it. Thanks to the delivery men too, delivery and setting up all went very smoothly.

Me again!! The mattress arrived yesterday. The delivery men were great, but gosh what a stress, they must have thought I was mad!! Firstly, I didn't get their call to say they were in their way (most likely because of our God-awful reception). So I hadn't finished clearing stuff off the landing. Then I moved the car off the drive - cue two screaming toddlers thinking I was leaving them behind. THEN the not-quite-potty trained toddler did a big stinky poo in his pants. Sigh.

First impressions were good. I liked the grey mattress with white spots. I liked the label! I did not like making the bed. My extra-deep sheets didn't have a chance of getting over the mattress, luckily I happened to have a super King flat sheet.

I managed an hour in bed last night before I had to go into toddler #2. I felt the mattress was chilly on my back - usually I have a feather topper which warms you up quickly without overheating. But I was actually pretty comfy, otherwise! Remembering that I'm not a fan of foam, I was surprised!

My husband (who DOES like the idea of foam) didn't fare so well. He had a sleepless few hours before moving into the spare room. He knows that it can take a little while to get used to a new mattress ... He felt quite hot, too, so I might have a play wth putting a feather topper on it (they're great for regulating temperature).

I'll be back in a week or so with an update!!

Ours has arrived and is all set up. Again thanks to the lovely delivery men, who did a cracking job and were very polite. Even when my 2 yo dd stood at the bottom of the stairs shouting 'puuuuuuush' at them when they were trying to get the giant mattress in!

The bed is lovely. Just as nice as I remember. Both me and DH felt it was far more supportive than our last, and just as we remembered it from the factory.

We went the whole hog and got a new duvet (not from slumberland) and pillows (through slumberland) to go with it.
Only issues we are having so far is that
A) I keep waking up hot. This is very unusual for me but could be down to the new duvet we have... Will report back.
B) I think both dh and I are struggling with the height of the pillows. We have both had sore necks. We assume this is the pillows not the mattress... We got the ones for side sleepers but it feels a bit deep. Need to give it a bit of time to settle, instinct is that it's the pillows not the mattress, but trying a few different things to see what helps.

Hello Smile

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
We chose the Serene mattress on a king size base with "Fawn" fabric and two storage drawers

What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
First and foremost comfort, there's nothing worse than an uncomfortable mattress, especially when you're sleep deprived! Also I get very hot when sleeping so am keen to experience the Affinity technology to see if it keeps me cooler. Our current mattress doesn't feel too bad comfort wise, but I do wake up t a loquite a bit due to being too hot. We are also excited to be going up to a king-size having only ever had a double. The arrival of DS now means we have 5 of us squished up in the mornings!

How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to the factory Sad I hadn't realised until the week before that DS (then 2 weeks) wouldn't be able to come with me (entirely my fault!). DH had arranged to take the day off to watch DD2 and do the school run for DD1 so him coming too to watch DS wasn’t an option as we're too far away. I'm very grateful to Slumberland for being so accommodating and allowing me to choose the bed by going into a local store. I did some research on the Slumberland website and google and took my time trying out the Serene. I must've lain there for a good half an hour to forty minutes Smile

What are your first impressions of your new bed?
It arrived earlier this week. The delivery men were great. They rang about 40 minutes before they arrived and were very friendly - they tolerated DD2 (2) chattering at them the whole time.

It’s big! The mattress is very deep, and I have to almost climb onto it (I’m only 5’ 1”). We’re going to have to get a bathroom step so that DD2 can get in Smile There is the option of a lower divan base but then you can’t have storage drawers.

I love the design of the mattress, it’s a nice colour and covered with little dots, looks more modern than a traditional mattress. We had to get new extra deep sheets (it’s 34cm deep!) so they took a few days to arrive so we only actually slept on it for the first time last night (we’ve been sleeping on our old mattress on the spare room floor this week, it’s felt a bit like camping!).

The first night’s sleep was great. I must admit to previously being a little dubious about mattresses with foam, having once tried out a Tempur bed whilst in a show room which I found really really weird to lie on and didn't like at all (plus I’ve heard foam is hot – a no no for me). The Serene did feel very soft when I first lay down, but at the same time very supportive which seems like the best of both worlds. We both slept very well. I fell asleep quickly and slept soundly (inbetween being woken up by DS). Then it was great when DDs joined us in bed this morning and all five of us could fit, instead of having children lying on top of us like we previously had with our old double.

I felt obliged (purely for the purposes of research for this thread of course!) to have a nap with DS and DD2 this afternoon. Again I slept well Smile

The storage drawers are not massive (not as deep as our old divan) but I suspect this may be because the divan is sturdier/more supportive so there’s less room for drawers? I think if storage is an issue (it’s not for us) then the ottoman would definitely be the best option.

So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
Yes I do. If last night is anything to go by, we both slept very well. I also didn’t feel hot like I usually do. DH often has aches/niggles around his shoulders/neck which I suspect may be caused by how he sleeps, and he hasn’t been sleeping too well lately because of work stress and newborn DS, so it’ll be interesting to see what difference a few weeks of sleeping on the new mattress will make.

ps: 5madthings I would definitely get a waterproof mattress cover if you haven't already. Our old mattress did not fare well after my waters broke on it Grin

Again customer service via email and phone has been great, I called this morning and although the person I spoke to couldn't help me initially she calked back promptly and it was all sorted.

I still need to sort sheets our fitted kingside ones aren't goung to fit so best do next day delivery of flat super king size.

We are so excited for the bed to arrive, my dh is a bit miffed that he is working wed night so won't get to sleep in it on the first night.... I am thrilled at the prospect of having the bed to myself but I suspect I will be joined by madthing5 at some point in the night.

-Which mattress and bed size did you choose?

I chose the Grace mattress king size bed with a fawn two drawer base with matching headboard.

-What was important to you when choosing your new bed?

The feel of the mattress and the style/colour of the base were important. I really liked the styles of headboards and the range of covers. The mattress definitely the most important. I wanted good support but a comforting feeling.

-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?

The factory experience exceeded expectations. They really made me feel very welcome. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The man (sorry can't remember name) was really good at talking us through the process and what we should look for. It was quite easy for me as I was on my own, I suspect if I had had my husband with me it would have been more stressful as we would probably disagreed. I was really torn between the Serene and the Grace but am glad I went with Grace in the end.

-What are your first impressions of your new bed?

I am really happy. It is how I remembered, bed looks lovely and I can't wait to go to bed tonight! It only arrived this afternoon and my husband has commented that it is softer than he thought it would be so I think he might be a bit concerned.

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?

I think it will, I have not been happy with our mattress for a long time and have suffered with lower back issues for several years. I think the new bed will help with those issues and I am hoping a more restful nights sleep in a more comfortable bed will really improve my standard of life! Seems extreme but I think sleep is so important and after several years on a substandard mattress I gave high hopes I will feel a real difference Smile

I'm so excited...today is bed delivery day!

So, to start, Slumberland would love to know:

-Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
We've got a Serene mattress on a king-size base with 4 drawers.

-What was important to you when choosing your new bed?
Primarily comfort, although price would have been a big factor had we been paying for it! The storage under the bed will be a big help in decluttering us!

-How easy was the process of choosing your bed, and how would you rate your experience at the factory?
The factory visit was a pleasure. We were given refreshments whilst the history of the company & new range were explained then taken through to try the options before confirming our choices. Since then, customer service has been great. I was emailed to double-check my choice, then emailed to let me know the delivery date (today). Yesterday I received a further email to say that the driver is planning a morning delivery and will call with an hour's notice of arriving.

-What are your first impressions of your new bed?
It hasn't arrived but at the factory, lying on it was so luxurious. It makes my current (not terrible) mattress feel like lying on a table! The foam layer at the top distributes the pressure across your whole body rather than pressure points like hips, shoulders.

-So far, do you think that your bed will improve the quality of your sleep, and why?
I am hoping that it will. After 2 babies I feel generally quite achey and my sleep is pretty broken (admittedly that can't be blamed entirely on my bed!). I am genuinely excited to go to bed tonight on my new bed!

There was a bit of a snag with delivery but I think that was probably down to a breakdown in communication and the fact that we are 200 miles away from the factory.

What are your first impressions of your new bed?
The delivery men were polite and the bed was put together quickly. They took away all the coverings so there was no mess for me to clear away. Bonus.

The bed is a Serene and it looked fantastic and very modern. We have the 4 drawer divan.

We were very excited to try it out last night. DH and I thought the bed was very comfortable. I have discomfort in my lower back and hips and I am hoping the new bed will help with this.

I bought a deep fitted sheet from M&S in readiness for the bed and it fits perfectly. It cost £15.

Thank you mn Thanks
