This thread is for the 150 MNers who have been adding a splash of colour to their homes with Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint.

Here's what they say, "Often it's hard to keep your home spick and span with little ones running around, especially when hosting a large family at Christmas time, but the Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint is set to stand the test of time with its maximum durability credentials. Our easy to clean premium paint includes a super-scrub formula and undergoes vigorous scrub testing to ensure the paint won't fade or chip off when cleaned, making it durable for your family home. This high quality paint allows walls to be wiped down and scrubbed clean once the festivities come to an end, without compromising on colour.

"As well as being available in a variety of finishes, including matt, mid-sheen and silk, the Valspar unique colour matching technology can replicate any colour the eye can see - that's 2.2 million shades! Choose a colour that's personal to you and your family - be it the shade of a festive Christmas bauble, or a favourite ornament, simply take the item to your local B&Q and its exact colour can be scanned and recreated in paint form."

Testers, please let us know:

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
  • Which room did you decorate and why?

- Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I was lucky enough to take part in this trial:

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

Easy peasy went into B & Q with DP & youngest DS usually a nightmare in shop after 5 minutes so we quickly chose (without even 1 argument) went for Lord of the Jungle (great paint names). Rescued DS from hanging off the very nice paint display, asked the very chatty and friendly B & Q staff to mix paint whilst we found brushes & roller. Paid (well gave vouchers at till worth nearly £50) and were out of the store in less than 15 mins!

Which room did you decorate and why?

Living room, as it still had oily marks all over the walls and ceiling from sticky geko stocking fillers from Christmas last year (the stocking fillers seemed like a good idea at the time)!
So couldn't face looking at them again this Christmas

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Excellent - my DP painted whole room in less than 1 day - all furniture removed and back in time for Sunday evening in front of the TV (It actually took him longer to get the Sky box back working than paint the room)!
DP is very picky and he said that the product was excellent quality and coverage was superb!

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes definitely, it was great, good coverage - whole living room (not a small room) painted using 2.5l, no smell and excellent finish. I would definitely sit and watch Brew DP decorate using Valspar again Wink

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
DD1 (whose bedroom we painted) looked at the colour booklet that we were sent and asked for one of the pink shades, which I promptly forgot when faced with the wall of colours, so we got a dusky pink called Unicorn Horn.

  • Which room did you decorate and why? We chose DD1's bedroom as we haven't decorated it for 6 years and a few years ago she when through a phase of drawing on her walls, we only had enough paint to do two coats on one long wall, but with the third of the pot left we mixed it with an old tin of white and made a toning shade of paler pink for the rest of the room.

- Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The paint had good and bad points, it went on very easily and didn't smell, but when we removed the masking tape (expensive painters tape, not cheap masking) it pulled off some of the Valspar paint with it, so we ended up having to do a lot of touching up around the edges.

The paint covered most but not all of the marks that DD1 had put on her wall, the biro was covered easily and couldn't be seen after just one coat, but there was an unidentifiable darker splodge which could still be seen after multiple coats of the paint.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would consider using it again for the colour matching, but at almost double the cost of the paint I would usually buy, it would be for a feature wall at best. If it lives up to its billing of being washable, that would be a big point in their favour.

We are doing the finishing touches to her room tomorrow so I will post the before and after pictures then.

In the middle of painting, but I can still answer these.

How did you find choosing your colour?
DS2 chose the colour as it's the room he will be using when we have finished our extension. He found it easy but actually I found there was almost too much choice. We looked online first and he chose a colour he liked and I went to b and q to get a tester pot. At b and q there were all different colours - the chips and in a little chart, but not the colour he had chosen. I couldn't remember the name of it so just chose a slightly different shade.

Which room and why?
The rooms my sons share has not been painted in nearly 8 years so was in dire need!

Overall experience?
Really good! You can tell looking at the walls which is the valspar and which is the cheaper paint. The finish is really good and it covered the walls very easily. It was so much easier painting with the Valspar. My husband and I were impressed.

Would we consider using it again?
Definitely. The ease of use made the slightly greater price worth it.

Will post pictures when finished.

I went to a small B&Q today but failed. They didnt have the Icon 3 brush set and didnt have the Icon roller set (had places in the rack but no stock). I wanted to match to another quality paint colour but the range there was soooo small they stocked very few makes. So home I came with nothing. Will try the huge depot store tomorrow. I am thinking either the downstairs loo with a fresh bluey green and glitter (!) Or a dark warm greyey brown in a bedroom. I cant picture in my head how big a 2.5l tin is.

C&p from the other thread...
I got the vouchers on Saturday and went to b&q today to get everything. I decided to colour match a F&B colour, which the paint lady said she does all. the. time Wink so we had a giggle about that. She was so interested in my vouchers and enthusiastic...I've to go back and let her know how it looks!

Got the brushes and rollers no problem, well, actually, they do take a bit of looking for, only because there are so many to choose from. The vouchers scanned no problem, the paint lady followed me to the till to tell the till lady what was going on blush. Can't wait to get the paint on the walls now. Masking tape is on so will start tomorrow.

...so the cutting in has been done. The paint goes on quite thickly compared to previous painting experience. Ds (3) 'helped' and I have to say he didn't drip even once! So far it seems nice and smooth when going on then quite hard when it dries.

I chose the entrance hall because it's the first grubby place you see coming in the front door Wink also, the walls are covered in fingers prints and where I've tried to wipe the walls down, the old paint has rubbed away and I could start to see the old colour underneath.

Will report back further when I've used the paint with the roller.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

Simple. I walked straight up to the Valspar desk with my curtain fabric, and showed the lady my voucher. She mixed my paint and went to find the roller, tray and brushes.

I also asked her about the glitter that I'd read about in the leaflet that came with the voucher, and bought two packets of it to mix into the paint. She said she could mix the glitter in for me, but it's best to use it within a couple of days.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

My almost 3 year old twins girls bedroom to make it look prettier for them as the magnolia walls they had didn't go with their curtains.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was really nice to use. It did give very good coverage, although I needed to go over some areas again. I really only had enough paint for one coat and some touch ups.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely use the paint again as it gave good coverage, and am already thinking which rooms I'll paint next, and would definitely use the glitter again too. If I win the £300 I think I'd use it to paint the rest of the house.

I'm trying to figure out how to add the pictures from my phone!

It was hard as so many! I eventually hose one from the ones that already existed.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

I am doing the play room as it is quite boring, and needs a splash of colour. Plus it makes sense as it the room mostly used by the children,

I've not actually used it yet, but will answer the rest once I have

Am I doing something wrong? PP's have said coverage is smooth but I find that when I go over the cutting in parts, or anything that has even slightly started to dry, the paint lifts off? I currently have 2 very blobby walls where I'm trying to fill in the holes it keeps leaving Confused. Never experienced this before!

piggyliggy2015 · 21/11/2015 12:35

@RhubarbAndMustard that doesn't sound right... I even paint over bits that are still wet and don't have this problem. Maybe speak to B&Q as it could be a dodgy mix or something..

Rhubarb - Valspar won't cover oil based paint as was told by the paint assistant in b&q. Will cover Matt and silk fine though.

Have yet to start painting as had problems with vouchers being accepted at one b&q and I now have to wait for a roller set to arrive in-store! Hoping to get started later if it's arrived....

Impressed with the paint advice given in b&q though - guy was very knowledgeable about valspar paint and gave me lots of tips about painting.

Interim feedback: been to my local large B&Q (Darnley, Glasgow) and got the roller set and paintbrushes no problem. Had a good long chat with a lovely lady (called Lauren) who was very helpful. Left with some colour chips to get some initial ideas before maybe buying a tester paint pot. As Lauren advised, it might help confirm whether or not two coats would work (if we do a feature wall in the lounge, that'll be on top of a dark existing colour).

Another person with issues with availability of the brushes and rollers - the suggested solution - drive 30 miles to the nearest "big" store... Think going to have to try and get some others to use instead as a 60 mile round trip isn't really an option... Fingers crossed the paint is lovely!

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
Picked off the rack, bronze honeycomb, not my colour of choice but I was outvoted!

Which room did you decorate and why?

We did our living room, was planning on doing another room but it was too big for the amount of paint.

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

My husband loved it, went on really well and quickly. Hardly any odour and we had it done and all the furniture back in 3hrs.
We only had enough to do our small room, so if you are thinking of buying any I'd get more than advised.

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely, it's more expensive but looks it and if it's as hard wearing as they say it will be worth it.
I personally am not a fan of the colour but that's my issue, not the paints :)
