This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

We've had a practice for Halloween using our Snazaroo face paints over the weekend. Here's my feedback.

Q1. Yes I was aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test, I've bought Snazaroo products before.

Q2. I liked the Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint pack, good that it included paintbrush and sponge.
Coverage was good once I applied some water to the paint. Sponge was easy to use and gave good coverage.

Q3. I tried out the witch face paint on my 4 year old daughter, she loved it! Great reaction from her.

Q4. I found it easy to apply and use, although i did need a fair bit of water as the paint was fairly dry. Once it loosened up a bit, it was easy to apply and looked fab on her skin.

Q5. Yes I would recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family. I thought the colour pigment was good and it had good staying power.
Easy to take off with a wet wipe.

Q6. Yes I would buy Snazaroo facepaint if I am in need of face paint in the future. I've tried other brands and they don't have as good colout pigmentation or staying power, Snazaroo definitely the best I've tried.

  1. Yes I was aware of them, I love Snazaroo facepaints
  2. I thought the set was good - I thought the booklet was better than other ones I've had. It was a complete pain getting the little cellophane covers off each 'patty' and my daughter was getting impatient with me (my fault, I should have done it first). I thought the patty's themselves were a bit on the small side - not sure how many faces you could do if they all wanted white ghosts/vampires etc...
  3. my girls looked at the booklet but just said 'cat' and 'pumpkin' - I used my own ideas. They loved the pictures though and one of my dd's has said she wants a purple dinosaur next time.
  4. I generally found them fine, not too messy etc. I thought the patty's were too deep in the tray though which made them fiddly, and the white took lots of dabbing/layers to get it properly white on the face.
  5. Yes I would recommend Snazaroo - I face paint a fair amount, school fairs etc, and I much prefer Snazaroo that any other brand. Importantly they are so easy to clean off too.
  6. Very likely. As I say I do a fair amount of facepainting and my girls love it at their parties etc. I always buy Snazaroo. This is the first set I've had though and I don't think it's as good value as the individual big circles. But I guess it's maybe good for those just wanting to do it for the odd occasion.

Thanks for letting me take part!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween face paint?
We liked it - it was easy to apply and very easy to take off which was good as we used a lot of black and I don't have the steadiest of hands so there was some correction as we went along

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween face paint?
DD1 became a cat

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Easy - although you really only do need a tiny bit of water. My brush was too wet to begin with.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, they're easy to use and the packaging makes them easy to store

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Very likely. I like the fact that it's easy to apply and to remove. It appears to be a gentle product for little ones' skin too

This was so much fun - we did some face painting on Friday night and got a bit carried away! My two boys were a vampire and a pumpkin - so far so good, By the end of the night my sister (27) was a witch, I (36) was a pirate and my mum (never you mind!) was a rabbit!

Q1. No - I'd never really thought of facepainting as a 'home' activity before.

Q2. Good, the colours were suitable for halloween and the sponge and brush were helpful as was the booklet.
Q3. We did a vampire and a pumpkin. On Halloween they are going to be a vampire and a dragon...
Q4. surprisingly easy, i'm not very artistic but they came out alright - the boys were really impressed.
Q5. Yes - absolutely it was great fun and not much mess.
Q6. Will definitely buy more sets. We had a good time doing it and it was easy to take off with a wet wipe which would have been my only hesitation.

These arrived just in time for the halloween disco at school so we both got to trial the face paints. I went as a clown, DD as a Mexican sugar skull.

Q1. Yup, in fact I'd been trying to buy some locally but without success.

Q2. Loved them, but could have done with some brighter colours for our particular costume - in the end I used a combination of Snazaroo and wet eyeshadow for clarity.

Q3. We went for a Mexican sugar skull which I actually found on the Snazzaroo website and then modified. The booklet looked nice and easy for an amateur like me

Q4. Super easy, although I'd chosen a particularly fiddly design so found the black a bit lacking.

Q5. Yes, for ease of use and range - DD is looking forward to drawing her own designs on so could come in useful on rainy days too.

Q6. Probably would buy again although think would stick to singular pots as opposed to packs like the one we were sent so we could have more choice.

Q1. Yes I was aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test and I have bought Snazaroo products before, both for myself and the toddler group that I am involved with.

Q2. I liked the Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint pack, so did my kids. It was great that the kit included both a paintbrush and a sponge.
My overall impression was that is a very good little kit. I used a spray bottle of water to moisten the paints, I also sprayed the sponge. The coverage was good with strong colours.

Q3. I had a 6 yr old zombie, a 4 yr old bat and an 18 month old pumpkin! They loved it.

Q4. I found the paints easy to apply and use, it was very quick to put on and to dry, the picture guide was really helpful.

Q5. Yes I would recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family.
I thought the colours were nice and strong, lasted well and washed off easily in the bath.

Q6. Yes I would buy Snazaroo facepaint again. I have found them to be brilliant on sensitive skin, they do not irritate my sons eczema and they last a long time.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes, I was aware of them and have bought the wild animal set before.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
We received the paints on Friday and liked the colours that we received, the pack looked like we received the right colours to do a variety of different Halloween themed faces. For a novice, it was great that you had everything that you needed to start, all you needed was a bit of water and some children to sit still. Having the book really helped me, I am not great at facepainting, the only 'face' that I can paint is a tiger, but with the book even I could do 'faces' that my children loved.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I painted a pumpkin on both DD (age 6 and 8) on Friday, then DS aged 10 got DD (aged 6) to wash it off and painted her as a Grinch. On Saturday DD (aged 6) had the purple spider and web from the book and DD (aged 8) was a fox.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
It was really easy, I am not very artistic and was thrilled that I could do designs that others could recognise. The only thing I would say is my DDs are very blond and they managed to get the red on their hair while washing their faces. Despite having a swimming lesson and a shower after swimming, they went into school this morning with a red streak in their hair.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I have always associated Snazaroo with quality in facepaints, it is the type the school uses for school fete and always works well. I have never heard a negative comment about it.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Very likely, you get what you pay for, while snazaroo might not be the cheapest facepaint you can buy, you know it is a quality product that works.

my kit arrived Saturday and kids were excited to get a face paint!
Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test? yes have purchased before
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Good range of colours for Halloween,I like the design of the brush. I wish the white face paint was a bigger size than the others, especially in the Halloween kit as lots of designs need a lot of white! Ghost, zombie, skeleton etc
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Own design copied from internet images. The booklet was good and has some basic face paints with clear images and would be easy to copy
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use? I used the sponge to apply to the large areas, slightly damp with the lightest colours first. I did use a fine liquid eye liner for the detail( I purchased this from poundland) I tried to use the tip with the face paint but didn’t work too well. The brush in the kit is much improved on previous kits though and I did do the bigger outlines, most of the lines and colouring with the brush which gave a nice solid line. I used a light moisturisers on their faces first.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, a good basic set with images to copy
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why I have purchased them many time before and would continue to do so. I have also purchased bigger single colours like white and army green. In the bigger kits I have purchased these came with some glitter and metallic paints which always go down well. I would like a eye liner type pencil as this is essential for fine detail

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

No, I wasn't aware of them.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

We all liked the packaging - bright and fun, made kids very excited about using the facepaints. Good range of colours. Pretty easy to use and washed off ok afterwards as well.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

I did a vampire design for DS1 (age 6) and a monster/dragon design for DS2 (age 4).

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

The face paint was very easy to apply initially, but when it came to painting over the existing paint it was a bit more tricky. The horns on DS2's monster design were supposed to be white but ended up yellow as the white paint just mixed in with the green when I added it over the top (even though I waited for the green paint to dry first). I could also have done with an additional finer brush for painting the black outlines around the designs.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would - in particular the booklet with designs was great, really easy to follow.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

It would depend on the cost, but if they were priced reasonably I would purchase Snazaroo facepaints again as they seem to be better quality than previous facepaints I have purchased.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test? No.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
Nicely packaged, liked the booklet with pics of ideas. As I am a total beginner with face paints, some very basic written instructions / tips would have been helpful.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Haven't done halloween ones yet but my girls asked for a heart and a Frozen snowflake design. I wish there had been a blue for the snowflakes - I used purple and white but it didn't work as well as blue.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Didn't know you're supposed to add water and found it quite hard to get the paint on the brush. Having read this thread I now realise I should have mixed a little water in - couldn't understand why it was so dry!

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
My kids have enjoyed trying these out and once I get a bit more competent am sure we'll be using them again. Recommendation would depend on price, I think. I thought the paints were rather small - if I'd paid for these rather than getting them free to try, I'd feel a bit underwhelmed. But I do have 4 kids so that's a lot of coverage needed!

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
See above - totally depends on price as value for money is my main priority. In terms of it being a good product, i'd buy again - at the right price!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes, we were given a set ages ago and had used it for different occasions.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween face paint?

Good, nice pack, easy to store with everything you need inside.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Ds (6) was a ghost and Ds (3) wanted to be his usual tiger! Both worked well.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Initially to peel off the plastic was a bit tricky and messy. The first time needed a bit more of water to soften the face paint but not much water needed after that. The colours went on well and stayed on once dry. They came off easily in the bath with a flannel and didn't leave any staining unlike other face paints.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

No hesitation to recommend them...already have to friends who saw Ds's in their face paint. The booklet is great for inspiration and to get the children to decide what they want.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

The last box we had lasted several sessions of face painting. I would definitely buy again.

Q1. Yes! Have bought them previously.
Q2. Really good, liked the colour choice and tools included, plus the ideas brochure was great and I followed the photos in the booklet for inspiration
Q3. first a pumpkin as it looked an easy one, then a pirate!
Q4. Very easy to use
Q5. yes I think I would recommend
Q6. yes, if I was going to build on the face paints and purchase more I'd certainly look for this brand. My reasons for this are, my child didn't get any dry skin or reaction to the face paints and I found them easy to use and remove.

I wasn't aware of Snazaroo before, which is surprising as I've been looking everywhere for face paint recently.
Absolutely loved it! Stays on well in general but it does smudge easily. Colours were good for a basic pallet but not very big.
I didn't think the booklet was great so I follwed YouTube. DD4 was a cat and Dd2 was a dog.
It goes on the face really easily without pulling the skin. Loved the sponge and the brush was brilliant to get different strokes.
I'd definitely recommend the Snazaroo face paint, but I'd recommended getting bigger pallets and I will be buying these again in the future.
Thank you so much for letting us try them. It was great fun!

We're working up to it, so DS1 did my face at the weekend in preparation for me doing his :_

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes - I've bought the metallics before for a specific costume

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

I liked it - it went on very well, wiped of easily after - I like that they included the sponge as well as a brush.

It did take me a moment to realise that there was plastic over them, and it was tricky to get off - I wonder if a little sticking up tab at the side might make that easier

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

He tried a skeleton - there was lots of tongue out concentration as he copied. I really like having the book of ideas there, it made it much easier to figure out how to actually do it.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Very - much, much, much better than the sticks we used when I was a child

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would - I thought they were really good.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Very - I tend to do things at the last minute, so knowing that the brand can be relied on to give me facepaints that will work is important (made that mistake before)

Yes I have heard of Snazaroo before.
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
Decent quality, easy to use, good to have a booklet with ideas. I would have liked some clear, concise instructions as I am a bit of a novice with face-painting but I found the brush and sponge helpful.
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
My DD went for the spider and web design.
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
The paint was easy to apply and use; although I found it smudged a bit but that could have just been my inexperience at applying face paints.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would recommend due to the ease of use and choice of colours.
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
I would consider buying this brand as they were easy to use, due to using them already I trust the brand as my DD had no reaction to them and they were easy to get off.
Thanks for letting us test them - it was great fun for all.

  1. Yes, I had seen them for sale in Amazon

  1. Overall impressions were positive. It was useful to have the sponge and brush to use and the range of colours were good for Halloween. I found it frustrating that the booklet that came with it wasn't specific to the colours in the kit so the options that dd wanted from the booklet I had to adapt to the colours we had which led to dissapointment from dd. I also found the pictures in th booklet amazingly good and pretty unachievabke for th average person or maybe that's just me . My finished version on dds face was a bit of a Pinterest fail type of look.
  2. She wanted the rainbow and a sort of mask design from the booklet. We'll use it again on Halloween for another design
  3. Pretty easy but found getting a very thin line tricky with the given paint brush. I've never really used face paint before but had no problems.
  4. Yes, dd was pleased with the results, they were easy to wash off and pretty simple to do, even dd paints dhs face Grin
  5. Yes I definitely would as dd loved them and they didn't give her any skin issues and she has sensitive skin

Thanks snazaroo and mn for letting me try these out, we really enjoyed it.
