We’ve been asked by the team at Samsung to find UK Mumsnetters to trial the Samsung Smart TV Hub, including family friendly apps Hopster, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video.

We’re looking for Mumsnetters who currently own a Samsung Smart television and would be interested in testing out the Smart Hub and apps.

Here’s what Samsung has to say: “Samsung Smart TV’s give parents access to a range of family friendly content through the platform from a range of content partners, including Hopster, which offers ad-free and U-rated content for preschoolers via the Samsung Smart Hub, as well as the ability to catch up on shows from popular kid’s channels including CBEEBES, Milkshake! And CITV. Samsung Smart TV’s also help families ‘cut the cord’ on cable TV and get access to a world of extra TV and entertainment options including catch-up TV, movies, YouTube, Skype and loads more. As Samsung Smart TVs already have access to all the scheduled programmes you would expect and a range of great free of charge or pay as you go apps, there’s no need to pay for expensive contracts or bundles, it’s simply a question of choosing the right apps for you!. Better yet, you don’t need a set-top box, extra remotes or cables cluttering up your living room, providing you and your kids with a seamless and safe entertainment experience.”

If you are selected to take part you will need to test the Samsung Smart TV Hub, including the Hopster app, for two weeks. You will need to try it out with your DCs and feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. At the end of the testing period we’d also like you to post a review on the Mumsnet App review pages.

Testers need to have at least one child aged between 3 and 10, own a Samsung Smart television and to be available to test the Smart TV hub between 11-24 May. Please only apply if you’re available at this time.

Every tester who posts their feedback and adds a review will be entered into a prize draw, where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

If you’d like to take part please add your details here.

Thanks and good luck!

I've signed up. I've not got the faintest idea what it is, but if it brings respite from stampy long nose for even an hour I'll be happy :)

We do have a Samsung smart TV but I think it already has the smart his thingie - we have certainly watched Amazon instant video through it, and I am fairly sure I've seen Netflix on it. So I am a bit confused about how this test works - do we just use our normal TV normally, using the apps mentioned in the OP, and the feedback on that? Not sure what Hopster is but if we have the other apps mentioned I imagine we might well have that already too.

Me too Wigeon. We already have the smart hub on our TV, we use it for Blinkbox, Netflix, youtube and catchup. Can't see the Hopster thing though. I'm not really sure what they're asking us to do Confused

Hi Wigeon and ProfYaffle - we're looking for Mumsnetters to test out the family friendly content available on the Smart TV hub, and give their feedback on a thread and on the review pages on Mumsnet. Hope this helps to clarify what's involved in the test?

Is the smart hub different to the smart TV apps?

Or is it a plugin "box"? Or a subscription?

I've got a smart TV, BUT I'm always having trouble with it disconnecting from the wifi. ...A pain in the arse when trying to watch catch up....and no it's not my Internet provider as I've just changed them. ....it's Samsung ??

Madmother - Google "Ethernet over Power". Seems to give a more reliable connection for our SmartTV.

I've signed up. Curious to see how this adds to the SmartTV experience as it's already really clever.

madmother second the suggestion on using a cable to connect the TV to the router imstead of wifi.

Signed up too. We actually only use the smart TV to browse the nas Blush found the interface much worse than the PS.

Have signed up. We have 2 Samsung Smart TVs,and on the whole they are excellent - we have both hardwired to the router (using homeplug over the electricity cables).

However, we have had days without Smart Hub access on at least a couple of occasions - it seems their entire network goes down (as you can see reports in forums from users across the world reporting problems at the same time).

This is a real pain for us, as we don't tend to watch 'Live TV' at all, and have a Myth Box for recording content. When the Smart Hub goes down, we can't even watch content from the Myth Box in our house, because it insists on routing all the access via the Smart Hub. Samsung really need to fix their infrastructure, as otherwise it's a fantastic system.

My son's too young but I gave up on my Samsung Smart TV when I realised I'd have to start fiddling with more wires. I assumed it would be wireless. They made it sound really easy in the shop but it exasperated me.

Thanks for the suggestions on connecting straight to the ethernet cable. I can't as I have no phone socket in my living room! However, the TV has been working without interuption while watching Iplayer for the past 10 days. Wink

madmother you can get Ethernet over power sockets. The recommendation is to put your modem to the first phone jack. We have a hub then next to the TV, connecting the TV, sky box and the PS via Ethernet. The hub can be connected via the power thingie, though we have it over traditional cat 6.
