This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Miele G6410SC Dishwasher.

Here's what Miele say, "The G6410SC freestanding dishwasher will provide you with the opportunity to run a more economical wash cycle whenever you need to clean your dishes and glassware. With a high energy efficiency rating of A+++, you can reduce the amount you need to spend on running an appliance within your home."

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

Hiya, We only got the dishwasher on two days ago so very early days yet.

DH fitted it and his feedback was only that the hose was wide in diameter (much wider than our last dishwasher hose) so he had to hack a hole in the side of the adjoining cupboard in order to connect it up to the plumbing. The dishwasher fits perfectly in the 60cm slot that the old one came out of and looks very luffly to me :)

I have always been of the impression that our plates and bowls must be of a very odd shape (whitard) as they never seemed to fit in the old dishwasher, no matter how clever I tried to be with the stacking. It turns out that they are not so unusual that Miele can't make stacking racks to accommodate them, as a result I can get easily an extra half load into the machine. I had fun adjusting the height of the racks to allow for big plates on the bottom rack but still fit tall glasses on the top rack (this sort of thing entertains me).

DH firmly believes that ecowash must mean the shortest possible wash so it is useful that the display of the Miele actually spells out how much water and energy is used for each separate cycle - I could prove to DH that the ecowash was in fact supposed to take three and a half hours . DH grumbled but since we set it off at night he couldn't complain that hard.

Which brings me onto the volume of this machine - it is so quiet that even super light sleeper DH was not effected by it and conversations can be had in the kitchen when the dishwasher is on.

so basically my first impressions are great, I love it. Nothing pisses me off more than craply thought out design of everyday household items - our old dishwasher irritated the hell out of me every time I tried to use it - I can and will spot poor design and ergonomics from a mile off. So far so good for the Miele

I find it very efficient and like the layout - especially for cutlery. I like the way the yellow bits move - it makes cleaning taller things like the cafetiere much easier. Also it's excellent for wine glasses - I even risked putting in my husband's favourite Riedel crystal wine glasses which are very thin and delicate.

I previously had a Bosch and so I'm just working out the best way to stack it. I find some smaller bowls a bit difficult but I'm not a very tidy packer - so probably the user rather than the machine.

Although I usually always rinse everything before I put it in, for purposes of the test I haven't and it has performed well even with pots. Other good features include the handle on the bottom drawer as it's much easier to pull out that other models I've used. And the fact that it opens once it's finished it's cycle. I've tried various cycles and even the sensor wash gentle was good. In my last dishwasher I routinely went for intensive so our energy output will certainly drop.


The two delivery men (Daniel and his colleague were charming) they installed it and gave me quick debrief. They also removed the old machine quickly and efficiently. Because we had all the plumbing set up it was very straight forward.

I've read the manual which seems to cover everything and put the 2L of water in the salt drawer in the door before adding the salt, I never knew you should do that but it makes sense that salt on it's own would be corrosive.

- How did you find initially setting up the dishwasher?

Like a previous poster we also had issues with plumbing in and my dh also had to cut a hole in the side of the cupboard to fit the big pipe through!
It was either that or the delivery man took it back! All sorted now.
Other than that initial hiccup, setting up the dishwasher was simple.
Setting the time and everything else was prompted no nice and easy. fumbled around a bit to find the child lock on the door to stop nosy 17m dd trying to open it!

- What were your impressions from the first few uses?

First impressions are very good, dh is impressed with the quality. He likened it to having a german make car?! I really like the cutlery tray as it gives more space in the bottom for plates and pans, got all dishes, pots and pans in for all 6 of us so very impressed. It's very quiet and the duration count down is handy to see how long each cycle is.

The fajita pan we used is usually hard to get clean, I scraped off the excess food bit didn't soak or rinse. It came out lovely and clean, I did use the intensive wash though.
So far there hasn't been anything not to like about the actual dishwasher.

I was very lucky as the lovely lovely delivery men plumbed it in and set it all up for me, even down to filling it up with salt and rinse aid and setting the time! So personally, I found initially setting up the dishwasher a cinch If it helps, it looked relatively straightforward

- What were your impressions from the first few uses?

I really like the simplicity of the buttons/display - it's really easy to scroll through and choose which programme you want to use.

I've only used the eco programme so far, but have used it as 'short' (when I needed the load to finished by a certain time), 'energy save' (when I was going out for the day, so didn't matter when it finished) and just as it is. So far, the cleaning has been fantastic - all my glasses have come out shiny and there has been no need to double wash anything (which used to frequently happen with my previous dishwasher). I will be putting it through it's paces tomorrow as we have people coming for lunch and I'm making pasta bake - my previous dishwasher never managed to get all the crud off my pasta bake dish so will report back...

A few other initial impressions include:

• It's very quiet to run.
  
• I really like the pull out cutlery drawer at the top - it seems to create a lot more space overall.
  
• The space inside is very flexible with lots of bits that can be pulled out or folded away depending on what sort of items you are washing.
  
• I love it
  

Only negative comment I can come up with is that it doesn't easily fit larger baking trays/chopping boards in it. I used to be able to stand them upright at the side of my old dishwasher and the blades could still spin, but I can't do that with this one as the blades knock against them, even if they are right at the edge. But this is a VERY minor complaint compared with my overwhelmingly positive experience so far...

Bicnod have you tried lifting the middle shelf up to fit the baking trays in? there are orange handles on each side and if you lift the drawer it slots in higher up giving more space at the bottom. I was initially a bit as the plates seemed to be too big and the blade kept hitting them then I worked it out

We only ever use eco wash and I use Ecover tabs too and, as pp have said, it does get things lovely and clean without having to rinse first.

My last dishwasher was a Kenwood and it could not cope with any excess dirt - I frequently had to wash the dishes by hand after they had been in the washer.

I have not read the instructions, I never do I'm afraid but having read other comments I had better go back and check this salt and rinse aid thing as I have never used either.

WailyWailyWaily do you live in a hard water area? If not you should be fine my PIL have never used rinse aid or salt because the water is so soft where they live but the guy said in the SE you need to be more careful.

So can I revise my previous comment - I literally have nothing bad to say about this dishwasher!

How did you find initially setting up the dishwasher?

Well, I managed to plumb it all in and set it up myself as a lone female so it can't have been tricky. The only difficult bits were issues with my kitchen really.

What were your impressions from the first few uses?

I've only just put on my first wash but I am really not feeling any kind of love for the cutlery tray. I've only had dishwashers with baskets before so maybe it will grow on me but it seemed an unnecessary faff. Also, the bottom rack on mine kept rolling back into the dishwasher, even though there was nothing to stop the door opening fully flat.

It will take a few uses to work out the best way to stack it - I'd used my last one for 13 years so I knew where to put everything! It doesn't seem as good for things like frying pans which used to fit upright in my old washer but maybe that just needs me to find the best place for them.

It is far far quieter than my old one, and my parents' one for that matter. However, it's not so quiet that I don't know it's on. I plan to try out the timer so that it comes on in the middle of the night so it will be interesting to see whether it bothers the dog (who sleeps in the kitchen) or me (who sleeps above it!)

Part of me wonders how many of the different programmes I could possibly use - I suspect I will end up settling on one and never using the others.

Well done OwlCapone. My DH has a plumbing qualification and he took longer than expected to adjust the plumbing!

How did you find initially setting up the dishwasher?
We had a lovely friend babysitting for us so we could go out last night. I arrived home from work to find DH having unplumbed old dishwasher and getting ready to install new one. He assured me this would take but a few moments. 30 mins later he is still under the sink, readjusting. I should add that this was not the fault of the Miele, however, but his attempt to use an old fitting rather than a new one. Once new fitting selected it seemed to plumb in very smoothly. I love a good instructions manual and this dishwasher came with an excellent one. Setting up the time etc was easy and I was impressed that it has a setting for the hardness of the water (we are in the SE and have very hard water). I then added salt and rinse aid - really like the fact that the salt drawer is in the door. Only user error meant that salt was outside the cavity. All in all, super easy to set up.

What were your impressions from the first few uses?
Day 2 and it has done 2 loads. I think the first was due to eagerness on the part of DH since it has a far bigger capacity than previous dishwasher. All 3 DS were very happy to help with loading (let's see how long that lasts) and DS3 especially delighted with cutlery drawer. So far no bits of mayo left on that odd spoon.

We have only used the Normal 55 setting so far, but everything has been very clean with the exception of the blender which probably needed a wipe over to remove pancake mix before it was loaded in.

I was a bit disturbed by a noticeable clicking noise on the first run but DH assured me that this was the box that was part of the plumbing which is a water sensor. It is not irritating, but I was concerned that we had made an installation error until he reassured me.

DH loves the fact that the door automatically opens when the cycle has ended.

So far very impressed.

The test is still going well here, used a normal wash to clean a Pyrex dish I'd made a pasta bake in, scraped it but didn't rinse. It came out spotless. Brilliant! :)

I've had a few forks with food still stuck between the prongs after a wash and one pancake pan still with pancake stuck. This was with the "sensor wash".

The timer function is great - I like thAt you can set a start or finish tine rather than working out an amount to delay the start by.

I forgot to say how much I love the fact that the salt refill is in the door and not in the floor of the dishwasher. Infinitely more accessible!

There's been a mixed experience. My old one was take away because dh unplumbed it and left it in the middle of the floor in the kitchen :)

They had a half-hearted look at plumbing in the miele but decided they couldn't, suggested they take it back again until they found out it was for a product test.

Hopefully yours will be. Have you got a wide enough opening for the end bit? The miele hose has a big box thing in the end and we had to cut a hole through the side of the cupboard under our sink.
