This is the thread for the Ambrosia Taste Team Testers who have been notified by email that they have been selected to try out the mini pots of custard or rice pudding with their children*

Ambrosia say; "our mini pots of custard or rice have calcium and vitamin D, which are needed for normal growth and development of bone in children. We believe our mini pots are perfect for small appetites. They contain no preservatives or artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners, but are full of dairy goodness. They have a long life and don't need to be chilled, so they are perfect for stocking up on reserve and for use out and about too. They are a perfect pudding solution that children will love!"

For all ingredients please see here

Ambrosia Taste Team Testers, please share on this thread your responses to the following questions:

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
I was sent the rice pudding pots and my 2 year old daughter and 7 year old son tried them.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
My husband tried them as I don't like any rice pudding and he said they were very nice. Both of children that tried them, loved them. My 7 year old had 2 at a time!

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes I would, definitely, and I'd love to try them with the custard too.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes I would.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
I served them on their own.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
Most likely as a snack or after dinner.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes, I would.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
I think that's a reasonable price as the pots aren't tiny.

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with? I got rice pudding. The children who trialled them are 5 & 3.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)? We all very much enjoyed them, especially the DC Smile

Would you buy any of the mini pots again? I would definitely buy the rice pudding again & would try the custard.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)? Yes

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)? Sometimes on their own or sometimes with raspberries/strawberries mixed in, or a dollop of jam.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots? Packed lunch or after tea

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic? Yes definitely

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49) They are on the dear side (considering that the yoghurts I buy are 45p for 6) but they seem more substantial, so they are OK value for money.

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

We were sent rice pudding for DS1 (3 years) although DS2 (1 year) enjoyed them too

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

We all loved them, me and DP as much as DSs

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Yes, I think so, especially if they were on offer

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Yes, if circumstances were similar (had small children etc)

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

Both DSs liked theirs with fruit, DS1 liked it mixed into porridge, DP ate his with jam

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

As a snack or a desert although they did have them as part of breakfast too at some points

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

Not as a lunchbox right now as DS1 can be messy and so I stick to as much mess free food as I can for lunch at pre-school otherwise he@ll come home with it smeared all over himself/his lunchbox! Maybe as he gets older/less messy

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

Yes, although offers like 2 for £2 would make me even more likely to buy them

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
We were sent custard and my girls are 4 & 10.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
Yes, the kids and I all liked them. We are fans of custard anyway but tend to buy tins. It was great to have them as an alternative that was as easily transportable as yoghurt.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes, definitely. The fact you don't have to refrigerate them makes them really good to have in the cupboard as a fallback pudding.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes, and in fact I already have Blush

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
Both! We had them over freshly cooked cupcakes as a faux steamed pudding, with fresh & tinned fruit, and on their own both at home and on the road.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots? Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
We would eat them anytime as a treat, as an alternative to yoghurts especially at times, like picnics & for bocs bwyd, where not needing to be refrigerated is a real plus.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money?
Reasonable. I normally pay £1 for six yoghurts, so they are broadly comparable but slightly more expensive.

The only 'constructive criticism' I could give is that the shape of the pots were quite tall and narrow for toddler spoons / clumsy kids. My four year old can demolish a yoghurt on her own but needed help to 'get the bottom out' of the custard pots. I would love to see the custard in the plastic tubes... That would be the perfect blend of problem free storage and edibility!!

Thanks for sending us them though... They have been fab :)

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
Custard and my DDs are 4 and 1.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
I love them! As a matter of fact I've just eaten two before logging on to here! They are delicious. DH, DD2 and I are fans. DD1 (fussy) prefers her custard hot. If I was a nicer mummy I could heat them for her in a bowl.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes, definitely. They are just the right size for a pudding for little children. They don't need refrigerating so are perfect for taking lunch out.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Definitely.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
It didn't occur to me to do anything other than eat them Blush We have 8 left so I'll try to be more creative with them. Either over some swiss roll or maybe mixed with some stewed fruit.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
As a simple pudding or as part of a packed lunch.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
Yes, 25p each. That's a great price.

Thanks for choosing us, a lovely product to test.

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with? We were sent the custard and my children are 4 & 6.
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)? My children loved them and my 4 yo calls it "Magic Custard" because she thinks it makes her grow faster! Personally I would prefer the custard to be a bit thicker in consistency but children had no complaints but did want to eat 2 at a time as pots are very mini.
Would you buy any of the mini pots again? Yes, already being nagged to get more.
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)? Yes.
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)? Mainly on their own but sometimes with some fruit e.g. stewed apples
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots? After lunch/dinner.
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic? Child gets hot dinners at school so not relevant yet, may include on a picnic as good that you don't need to refrigerate
Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49) I would say so yes and would also like 4 large ones for bigger appetites...
Thanks for all the yummy custards, will try rice puddings next.

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?
Rice pudding, tested by DS age 6 and me

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
Yes, they are a good size and nice taste/consistency

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes, especially if they were usually sold in a '2 for £2' type offer like petit filous

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes, for quality and convenience

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
My DS diesn't have packed lunches, but if he did, I would include one of these instead of a yogurt on some days. They've mostly been eaten at breakfast, alongside toast/crumpets, and 2 at a time for supper after swimming lessons.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
Erm, quite good value, would prefer £1.20-£1.30, but would be most likey to buy on a 2 for £2 offer tbh

Thank you for letting us trial this product, I will definitely buy it in future. Really like that it can be stored in a cupboard rather than fridge, and is a convenient size for a snack with fruit/toast/cereal

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Yes, they're a good size and don't take up space in my fridge

Were you sent rice pudding or custard and how old is the child(ren) who you tried them with?

Rice pudding and DS is 7

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?

DS did. I've not tried them (mainly because I love rice pudding and those tiny pots are not nearly enough for me!)

DS said they were really yum and could only be improved by "having bits in". He enjoys the bigger pots of rice pudding with fruit at the bottom, so this is what he means by bits! Although he did also suggest that they'd be improved by the addition of chocolate chips Grin

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?

Yes, I've bought the custard in the past and I'd definitely buy both varieties again.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?

Yes, especially to friends with younger children as I think they are the ideal toddler size

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?

On their one

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?

DS has had them in his lunchbox. I think they are perfect for this, being small and portable and able to be served at room temperature. He's rejected yoghurt before as it gets warm by lunchtime.
I also like that they have a long shelf life so I can keep them in the cupboard.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?

See above. I'd definitely also consider for a picnic or day out

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)

On a price per 100g basis, they are probably not as good value as a big tin but for convenience sake they are worth it, although I usually wait until they are on special offer for £1 as they seem to be fairly frequently

Thanks for the opportunity to test these!

I was sent the rice pudding and tried it with DD aged 7 plus a friend's children aged 4 and 6.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
They went down brilliantly here. I tried one (or two) and enjoyed them too.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes, DD can be really funny about food but loved these.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes definitely.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
Kids had them plain. I added jam to mine Blush

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots?
DD would eat them at every opportunity. I have hidden the box!

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic?
Yes I have been putting them in packed lunches. I would also take them camping for sure.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49)
They are comparable to yoghurts etc. I will buy them when on offer and stock up as it's not a lot of food for the money. Ocado have 'buy 2 get 1 free' on them at the mo so have ordered a fair few!

Yes we were and my 3 year old tried them.
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
I enjoyed them. My 3 year old initially disliked the texture, as she is used to the smooth texture of yogurts in similar pots. However, after trying a few times, she began to like them.
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Yes, I would.
Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)?
Yes. They make a good variation to yogurts.
How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
On their own, as a dessert and for snacks.

Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
We first tried them at room temperature, neither of us were very keen. We tried them again cold, straight from the fridge, I liked it better. DD had some but didn't finish the pot, and when offered another one the next day she said no, she didn't like it.

Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
Probably not, purely because DD didn't like them.

Do you think you would recommend the mini pots to your friends and family (if it came up in conversation)? Yes, definitely.

How did you serve the mini pots (on their own or with something else)?
On their own after lunch, straight from the fridge. They were much better cold.

When would you / your family be most likely to eat the mini pots? Probably as part of lunch or after dinner.

Would you include a mini pot in your child’s lunchbox or on a picnic? Yes, if we used a cool box to keep them cold.

Would you say that the mini pots are good value for money? (Each pack of 6 has a recommended retail price of £1.49) Yes.

Other comments: I thought the pots were an awkward shape, difficult for a little one to get all the contents out of.

Rice pudding, tested by my DD (3) and DS (1) and also a friend's DD (3)
Overall, did you enjoy the Ambrosia mini pots you received? Did your child(ren)?
I like them but my kids don't seem so keen. DD had one and said she liked it and would eat it again, but has since refused them. DS spat his out! The friend ate one but I forgot to ask her opinion. My first thought was that they were not as sweet as I expect rice pudding to be, though I don't think I make it very sweet at home, I do make it sweeter than that.
Would you buy any of the mini pots again?
I would occasionally if the kids decided they liked them. Very handy snack as keep well and no need to be chilled.

I was sent the custard pots and my 3yo dd tried them. I also gave some to two friends who have two children each; three and seven, three and five.

My dd and dh liked the pots but both preferred it warm. Three of my friends children liked them, the other didn't.

I would buy them again and I would recommend them. Dd ate them on their own, warmed up.

My family ate the pots as pudding after dinner. I wouldn't put them in a lunchbox or picnic as my dd only likes them warm.

Yes I think they are good value for the price.

Yes, for the convenience of having a small portion to hand. The product has a long shelf life and can be stored at room temperature so I'd probably stock up if I saw them on offer. My 3yo is happy to eat the custard at room temperature so it's a quick and easy pudding.
