Kärcher SC2.500C review thread. Non-testers: Tell Kärcher about the cleaning tasks you avoid for a chance to win a SC2.500C Steam Cleaner! NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 15/04/2014 14:50

This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner.

Kärcher say "The Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner makes light work of grease, dirt, stains and even limescale, delivering deep cleaning results with no chemicals or scrubbing. It kills 99.9% of bacteria with just the power of steam, and can be used on most surfaces around the home"

Non-Testers: What cleaning tasks do you have trouble with? Maybe you avoid cleaning the oven or dread scrubbing the bathroom? Are there any tasks that you think a steam cleaner could help with? Whatever your cleaning woes, Kärcher would love to hear about them.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win their own Kärcher SC2.500C!

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?
  • Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Thanks and good luck!

I want to know if it does a good quick job of clearing the vile cocktail of grease and dust that accumulates on top of the kitchen cupboards.

Yes it's the oven for me. That is my most dreaded task and is definitely one for the husband!

The oven and the bathroom grouting are the worst for me, and I'm not too fond of the hob, either. Basically, anything that involves loads of scrubbing and/or can't be done without clouds of evil-smelling sprays. Any cleaner that would make this easier and sweeter-smelling would get my vote, so I'll be reading this thread with interest!

Yes - grout! How does this steam cleaner perform? And can you remove peeling paint and old wallpaper with it?

non tester - the cleaning tasks I avoid are the windowsills/grouting. all of the windows are really high up and I'm not blessed I'm the height department. to clean the kitchen front windowsills I have to sit on the kitchen counter in full view of all the neighboursGrin

I'm a bit sad and actually enjoy most cleaning tasks, I feel better when our home is clean and tidy ( however you should see my cupboards, wardrobes and drawers, they are crammed full and in an awful state. Think Monica's messy cupboard......but ALL of mine are like this!)

However one task I hate to do is the cooker, in particular the oven. It always gets left far too long so the glass doors have burnt-on splashes on them. I must be one of the most depressing tasks to do. I shudder just thinking about how bad our oven looks right now.

The extractor hood for the cooker, and a really decent job of the shower - we have sliding doors, and getting the bits where the two doors over lap is horrible.

And the tiles behind the cooker.

Oven here too. it makes me just feel dirty all over Envy.

I'm currently using all my best moves to convince dp I need a steam cleaner to make it easier for me, I even tried telling him I'd flash him my good boob. it didn't work. going to stomp about muttering about germs and withholding boob flashings till one appears Wink Grin

Non-tester Sad

The worst cleaning jobs are the bathrooms. The main bathroom is on a North facing wall and gets very mildewy. It's pretty much a constant battle to keep it from being revolting.

Also, hob and oven because I love cooking, so I make a regular mess.

And the dog's bed... would it clean and sanitise that?

Non-tester: The shower in my en-suite is a nightmare to clean. I am tempted to replace it with a new one just to get out of doing it.

Non-tester here. Definitely the oven! It is the one thing I put off doing. And I have porcelain tiles which i would love to get a steam cleaner on :)

I am a tester but it hasn't arrived yet.

My first job will be the oven. Then the tiles in the shower.

Non tester: I avoid the shower screen, nothing I do makes a difference anyway.
Could use some help with hob and splash back too.

Tester here - where to start?! In the process of moving house very slowly, its a long story! so we are cleanining our lived in flat (starting with the oven!) and moving into a 'hasn't-been-cleaned-in-30-years' house, it will get a lot of use when it arrives!

Tester here, waiting for it to arrive (it's CakeyCakeyCakey on my Easter name change)
I have a grubby outhouse floor that I thought had black grout but doesn't! It's the only mucky bit in my house, I'll admit it's mine I was goin to pretend it was someone else's house [shame]
I shall be using it in two other houses though, searching the family for built up grime!

Any requests of things to try it on?

Tester:

Further to the email, if it arrives tomorrow it's coming on holiday with us to steam clean the metal storage bins at the back of the PIL's caravan! If not, I'm cultivating a particularly grimy plug hole in the bathroom sink to tackle.

I took my living room curtains down today to wash and the grime on top of the curtain track and around the windows in general was just grim. I never remember to wave the vacuum in that direction or to get a damp cloth to wipe.

The worst is greasy corners in the kitchen that get ignored far too long in the hope that it will all just go away by itself - top of fridge, extractor hood & filter, oven etc (although a very nice man cleans my oven for a smallish fee).

If I had a steam cleaner I would hoick it around my house like a light saber dealing with all the high up places. I would probably make a whum-whum sound too.

My old steammop only seems to wet the floor a bit, it doesn't seem to clean any more effectively than a mop, I'm looking forward to seeing if a more powerful steam cleaner works better.
I'll be giving the old one to sil who will never use it!

In fact Blush the whole bathroom is a bit grubby. Will also do the washing machine drawer too if feeling brave. Might also tackle the BBQ as that needs to go in a removal van soon as well!

Bathroom! Mainly behind the toilet, I try to keep it all wiped down but sometimes I just can't face it. The shower room is so small it is impossible to clean without getting up close and personal - yuk!

Report
Rhinosaurus · 16/04/2014 11:10

OMG where do I start!!

We have five teenagers (4 boys) who piddle everywhere but the toilet it seems. They are probably texting or something but the pee even gets above the cistern - vile! We have an en suite so avoid it, our daughter uses the downstairs loo, so the first task for the lucky Karcher is the pee infested family bathroom!!

Next, we have quite a large conservatory with fabric blinds and conservatory furniture with cream covers. The dog has developed a little game she likes to play where we shut the door to the kitchen, she lies in wait for one of the lazy teens to leave it open and shoots out into the conservatory to sprawl across the cream covers. The white window surrounds are also grubby after winter, so am looking forward to cleaning those with the steamer rather than taking all day with a bucket of water and a stepladder.

My OH spilt a coke between his legs in the car (so he says - yeah right) and there is a big fluid stain on the seat so we are going to try it on that.

Oven and vile kitchen cupboard tops goes without saying.

Basically I think everything is going to be steamed to within a inch of its life.....!

Tester - top of my list is the oven door, that streak of grease that nothing seems to remove.

Also, the tiles behind the hob that is kind of sticky/greasy.

Also the grimy bit round taps and the join of the sink to the worktop.

I'm painting a great mental picture of my kitchen aren't I? Blush
