We’re pleased to announce a Zoomchat with Paula Rhone-Adrien, an award-winning and renowned family law barrister with over two decades of experience, who will be chatting to Mumsnet HQ on Tuesday 2 March from 7pm to 8pm. You can book your place using this zoom link.

Paula regularly attends Court representing clients across the social spectrum, from the Magistrates' Court to the Court of Appeal, in a range of areas including: divorce and finances; disputes between parents regarding where their child should live or how much time they should spend with the other; the region/country a child should live in; child welfare, be that the concerns of social services regarding negligent parenting (sexual, physical or emotional abuse) or one parent accusing the other; and domestic abuse (representing the alleged victim or the alleged perpetrator).

Paula has worked with a number of broadcast networks and TV production companies in the UK. You can listen to Paula on this episode on marriage on BBC Woman’s Hour. You can read Paula’s previous webchats here and here.

If you've been thinking about separation or have questions about your rights and legal position when it comes to relationships, domestic abuse and divorce or separation, tune in for a chance to hear Paula’s advice to Mumsnetters. Book your place now by registering here. It’s free and it’s first come, first served.

Please do not send us your questions in advance - only attendees will be able to ask questions either in the chat box or live.

Please note that any answers from Paula will be the general stance taken by the Family Courts as opposed to specific to the individual’s case - and please do not include any names or anything that could identify where the person/child lives.

(Please note: if you join the Zoom chat, your camera will be turned off by default. Your screen name will be visible, so consider whether you’re happy to use your RL name or want to use your MN posting name, or something else entirely. We might ask you to turn your audio on if you want to read your question out ‘live’.)

Thanks
MNHQ

Edited to add information about the length of the Zoomchat.

How does this work if she is only live for an hour but there are 100 places? If I book a place, do I get to air my questions or is it purely to listen to others? Thank you.

Not whinging but, I don't understand why MN has introduced these Zoom sessions instead of the more accessible webchats. Is it a lockdown thing?

Similar to Fred, I would like to ask a question but, due to the nature of the DA my ex put me through, online interactions on platforms like zoom make me very nervous.

I like the webchat because I feel more confident about security, rightly or wrongly but that’s my perception and it enables me to post on MN whereas all other SM or video/audio online makes me nervous to the point of not participating.

I would like to watch though - someone might ask similar questions that I’d’ve liked to, or some I didn’t know I needed to know iyswim.

So can we watch the session later?

Hello @Anotherusername2021- sorry for the delay in responding. Good point, it's 1 hour long. We've updated the OP to reflect that.

Hello @NotAgainNoMore

If you join the Zoomchat, you'll get a chance to ask your question to Paula either via the Q&A chat box or directly through audio - we'll aim to cover all topics that are being raised live.

Hello @FredSoftly

We've added Zoomchats - and are still doing webchats. Our last one was with the Minister for Safeguarding Victoria Atkins on 11th February, which you can find here. You can find a previous webchat with Paula here. As there's only 100 places in Zoomchats there's more chance your question will get answered.

Hello @Sacreblue.

Thanks for this question. If you join the Zoomchat, you are free to use your MN username (or any anonymous name) - and you can ask your question in the Q&A chat box rather than using audio.

The conversation will be recorded and available to watch later - we'll post it here.

Paula was fab wasn't she?

We're so sorry to anyone whose question didn't get answered - we had around 50 unanswered ones at the end - we're going to think about how we can maybe group things by theme a bit more next time in an effort to at least get top-line advice to most questioners
