LOVE Jillian in this house - even dh does the dvd's Grin

For various health reasons I can no longer exercise to the level I used to - dedicated shredder here - and need to keep my heart rate low - what non load bearing exercise can I do that'll keep me lean?

I'm mostly housebound and most days manage to do about 10 mins of stretching - is there anything else you'd recommend that will help me get rid of the dreaded c-section bulge?

Oooo I'll be tuning in for the live chat.

Thank you for being so inspiring! You helped me lose 4 stone after having my baby and go from being someone who never exercised in her life to someone who has almost finished the first year of a fitness and nutrition degree!

I love your dvd's!

Congratulations on your engagement too.

Personally, I just want to thank Jillian for all the encouragement to get up and achieve my fitness goals. I've been using various workouts since 2013.

I've struggled with depression, which got so bad I couldn't get out of bed this January. When I finally managed to get up, it was to stick on one of my Jillian DVDs. Every step of my recovery has been focused on eating right, getting enough sleep, and making time for myself. All with the goal of staying fit.

So thank you for all your words of encouragement. I have been listening and believing you!

I agree with the above. I struggle with depression too and after always being fit and very into my exercise, I have done nothing for the last two need to know how to make that big first step and how to keep motivated even on days when I am struggling with my depression.

Love love love the new show! 😘

Yay! I love how well the Shred works. Now I just have to make myself do it. Tonight's the night!

Is the new DVD aimed at women who have just had a baby and need to be a bit gentler in their workouts, or is it as hard as all the others?

Jillian, what is the secret to staying motivated? I get motivated, get fit (loved The Shred), stay fit for a few months, and then inevitably lapse, on around a 9-12 month cycle. At some point, something kicks in (usually clothes getting tight!) and I get back into it again, but I can't seem to sustain the motivation over the long term.

Yay Jillian is back!
Last webchat was so great I actually cried at some of her advice - possibly it was what she said to ShowMeTheWonder. "Hot Body, Healthy Mommy" is not a title that would normally appeal to me, but I will forgive her anything.

Jillian I'm perimenopausal, gaining flab and struggling badly with lack of motivation to exercise. Can you please kick me up the arse and tell me in your uniquely motivational way to get off the computer, get my trainers on, dust off one of your DVDs and just do it. Colds and other illnesses are my downfall - they break my routine and I lose the willpower to start again.

I have lots of Jillian's DVD's and I exercised regularly until I hurt my back. Now I dont do them anymore. They did help me through a real rut in my life, when I was miserable and made me feel much better about myself, but I just cannot get motivated to do anything after a day at work now.
I would have loved to join the webchat but its not at a very conveinient time? won't everyone be at work or on the school run?
Don't really have a question, just a thankyou for the DVD's and an apology for becoming rather an unmotivated slob once again!

Any chance of a shred for grannies? My mum would love to do it but it's too hard for her- or suggestions for dvds suitable for keeping fit in your 70s?

When I first did the shred I had to walk down the stairs backwards I was in such pain. It's the only dvd I recommend as actually worth the effort!

Yaay!
Jillian, why does the Shred kill your knees, what am I doing wrong? I ended up with tibial bruising that healed eventually, but it was not nice. I took a break and now I am back into it, 3 times a week, but already my knees have flared up!

Aaaargh! Swoon! I luffs Jillian Michaels a lot!

Firstly I would like to say thank you for getting me back into fitness. I started the 30 day shred 2 years ago when I was very unfit. After a couple of months I signed up for a 5k run. When I started to train I couldn't believe I was able to run 5k straight away purely on the fitness 30DS had given me. I got the bug and have run four half marathons in the last year and am now training for London Marathon. All thanks to that initial manageable fitness boost from the shred. I cannot thank you enough. It has truly changed my life.

So here's my question: how can I use your routines as cross training for running? I know that I should have rest days between hard running sessions but I never know whether I should cross train on those days or if I should do a video before or after a run. I really need to add in some cross training but I could do with understanding how to put it all together.
Thanks in advance

so glad I don't work Mondays!

I'm wondering about the knees too in shred, level one is fine , level two is sore on my knees but bearable but I always have to give up at level three cos the joint and shin pain gets unbearable

Yes for minor illnesses breaking the routine.
shred is absolutely the only thing I've managed to stick to for more than a week or so at a time, and as others have said the fact you can see results so quickly is the key. Plus it's a double whammy, once I've got up at half five and done he shred I don't undo all my good work by eating crap later in the day.
my questions are not exercise related:

  • do you, Anita and Natalie go out and get drunk with an end of evening kebab thrown in?
  • did you know that on level one, on the lunges Natalie cheats when you're not looking? :)

Very happy to hear Janice back on the podcast. Is Just Jillian available on a streaming service? I couldn't work out a way to watch E programmes without a TV.

Another household with a lotta love for Jillian here!

I've been intermittent shredding/ripping for a couple of years now - it's my fall back when I can't get to the gym or during less active times (I'm another peaks and troughs person), and I love how it always helps me get back into it.

Question from me: I've recently broken my leg so feeling really frustrated and increasingly flabby. It's going to be at least 8 weeks (maybe more) before I can start back at the gym....What can I do in the meantime?

loosechange · 11/03/2016 22:15

I was going to ask when I can start exercising post partum, but the thread title answers that beautifully.

So I shall resort to my rather self indulgent question. Even when I was pretty fit, doing (your) workouts 3-4x per week, and slim, BMI either side of 20,i couldn't lose my overhang post section.

Is this something I can realistically get rid of, (in which case I will go at it again post partum), or do some women never lose their overhang? If this is the reality I will settle for fitness and toxicity plus a wobble but I don't want to think I have given up too early.

TIA

Jillian,
First thanks for the shred. If it wasn't you doing the dvd I'd just not do it. You're great motivation.
Second , have you got a HIIT dvd ? If not, are you planning one or have you got any suggestions about that ?
Looking forward to hearing and reading you here.
Smile

Hi Jillian, two questions although I know that is against MN protocol.

  1. Can you tell me where my shred DVD is hidden? I have looked everywhere and it has disappeared.

  2. Have you ever tried Roller Derby? I thought I hated exercise until I tried this. Now I have motivation to build different muscle groups so I can gain extra skills. Hence my first question. When I first started doing Shred I had to clear a couple of days where stairs weren't needed.

Swede - yes there is a Beginner Shred which is FANTASTIC - it's a LOT easier on the knees, Jillian is more encouraging than shouting Wink and it's a really great way to ease yourself back into exercising!!
