Paul McKenna is joining us for a live webchat on Wednesday evening between 7 and 8pm. Paul will be chatting about his latest book, I Can Make you Happy which claims it can make you feel happier than you had ever imagined.

Paul will also be happy to answer questions on his 'I can Make you Thin' programme which he says has helped 71% of people who have tried it successfully lose weight and keep it off. He will be taking over the Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday 19th February to host his first Live Weight Loss Seminar.

Paul is Britain's best selling non-fiction author and is published in 30 languages as well as hosting television shows and seminars in hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming and motivation.

Join us on Wednesday evening to chat to Paul, or send in your questions in advance to this thread and he'll attempt to answer as many questions as possible over the hour.

How exciting! Please ask this question as I have been brooding on it for a while.

Paul, I'm a devotee of your books, in particular 'I can make you thin' of which I bought 2 copies just in case I lost one. I lost 2 stone and kept it off for 2 years, and hoped to do it again after giving birth.

However, I read Russell Brand's second book a few months ago (one of your famous clients) where he describes some advice you gave him with regard to his co-star who he had fallen in love with. I won't repeat it here, but I was quite shocked by it and a bit disappointed as it came across as misogynistic. I feel conflicted now as I love your work but have to admit it made me view you differently.

Can you please say anything to reassure me that you are pro-women?

Hi Paul,

i am overweight and know i'm an emotional eater but when i'm pregnant i always lose around 2-3 stone. It's like i suddenly can eat like normal people, i stop eating when i'm full and only eat when i'm hungry.

Can you explain why and tell me how to do this all the time. I've now got three children and can't keep having them just to lose weight! Blush

I was very shocked by the Russell Brand book's account of you too!

But I use your CDs regularly. I'm still thinking about my question...

Why is it that I can lose twenty pounds or so on the CDs but as soon as I stop listening to them, they stop working? The problem is after about six weeks of listening, I put the CD on, pass out completely, and it seems to stop working. Now I know you can be very relaxed and take it in, but it just seems to not do it after that point. Would I benefit more from a seminar for example?

Can I also just say I just bought 'I can make you happy' and when I got home a big spider ran across my foot and I whacked it with the book and it did make me happy.

The spider, not so much. Grin

Hi Paul, just wondered whether you have read "Fat is a feminist issue" by Susie Orbach? If so what did you think of it?

I have been using I Can Make You Sleep, but I get a bit distracted by the counting thing. Am I meant to count for a bit, and then drift off and stop? Otherwise I try to be a good mathematician Grin but it taxes my brain and kind of worries me!

Hiya Paul. I was lucky enough to be chosen to join you in December 2004 for the seminar that was filmed for Richard and Judy.Grin

I just wanted to say a huge thank you. Not only was it a fantastic day but over six years later I am still at my ideal weight and have never over eaten since!

P.s DH wants to know if during hypnosis you suggested that I should have a little crush on you. Driving home after the seminar I turned to him and asked "Is it wrong that I fancy Paul McKenna?!?!?"Wink

Hello Paul

Many many years ago I was one of the people you tried to hypnotise on your stage show. It didn't work very well so I wasn't on stage for long but while I was there, you derided my appearance and compared me to Olive from On The Buses.

OK, so I wasn't the most glamorous girl around but that taunt and sense of humiliation in front of a packed theatre stayed with me on and off for years.

I know it was probably my fault for going up on stage anyway (egged on by a friend) but I just wanted to get that off my (still ample) chest.

I'm guessing you've moved on from those stage show cheap jibes anyway now. Thanks for listening.

Sorry if this is a strange question, but I just wondered why you adopt a strange (almost transatlantic) accent for your CDs. I find it hard to get into a state of relaxation when I'm wondering about the state of your vowel sounds and why you replace "t"s with "d"s.

BTW I've got the "Make you thin" book/CD. The advice does make sense, but it hasn't worked yet mainly because a) I haven't applied it properly and
b) I'm too busy trying to get my head around your intonation and pronunciation.

Are you planning to do any more NLP training in the UK?

I can listen to Richard Bandler, but will admit to not being comfortable with his swearing during an introductory evening - it wasn't necessary and detracted from what he was saying.

Certainly couldn't listen to it for a whole week - I have friends who enjoyed doing NLP with you, so would be interested in your plans for the future.

another one here who gets confused with the counting, i tend to stop after about 20.

my question is i restarted (after losing half a stone successfully and getting distracted by life) the i can make you thin 90 days on January the first and its going relatively well but i always worry about the CD, it comments on hearing one bit from one ear and the other from the other ear, i'm hard of hearing and my left ear doesn't work at all, i listen on speakers and just wondered if that will affect how well it works?

Hi Paul, can you recommend books on the process of NLP from the perspective of someone who is thinking of learning of going into NLP as a career?

Report
Smileypeeple · 11/01/2011 12:35

Hi Paul,

Have you considered putting your hypnosis, relaxation and NLP techniques to use with helping woman give birth? Almost half the population give birth at some point in their lives so I imagine it would have a good market, and I think this is an area where woman do struggle to find good information and support on something potentially hugely beneficial that gets scant mention to pregnant woman.

After a traumatic first birth, which after self analysis, I decided was hugely down to my fear, panic and loss of control of the situation and myself, I used a made up type of hypnobirthing and had a truly wonderful second experience, where despite the pain, I remained calm I felt in control, I felt confident I could cope and I felt a huge sense of euphoria afterwards at my acheivment.

Since then I've shared my rudimentary made up techniques (I know a little about NLP) with other mothers, but there is little out there in the mainstream addressing this.

So, how about a 'I can make you push' book? Grin
