Inspired by the nice little thread about nice little things...
What is the nicest thing(s) that anyone has ever done for you?
Big or small, I want to hear it all!

I was sobbing at work once (work related but a lot of things had got to me)...I was sat with my lovely manager (large office, big company, comfy chairs in breakout area) and a lovely lady doing the cleaning that day spotted me and quietly brought over a cup of water and some tissues, then squeezed my shoulder and quietly left again. What an angel.

Cleaner here. On hearing my vacuum broke after Xmas, one of my customers gave me one of theirs.

New model Dyson!

I had horrific insomnia due to anxiety and my husband woke up, saw i was awake and gave me a cuddle. I burst into tears and he got up with me and took me downstairs. We watched tv together for a couple of hours and then he took me back to bed and stayed awake with me until I finally fell asleep at about 3am. He had work the next day. So so kind of him. I am forever grateful.

I have a friend/ mentor who I met through church. Every so often she sits me down with a cup of tea and says "tell me about your life", breaking it down into sleep, work, friendships, relationships, church, mental wellbeing. It's amazing and it really makes a difference to me.

my son buys me holidays abroad for christmasses and birthdays. totally unexpected and he says they are his way of saying take a break and slow down mum! thing is the downside to this is i have to take my husband and daughter so slowing down is not an option but its kind and thoughtful of him and so very generous.

My German friend sneaked into my house while I was away just before Christmas and filled my kids shoes with sweets. Apparently it's a German tradition. It made me cry as it was so out of the blue and so thoughtful and done for nothing in return, just out of love for me and my kids.

An old friend surprised me doing a food shop for me when she knew I only had pennies in my purse.

I became suddenly, and seriously ill last year. It involved a lengthy hospital stay, rehabilitation and marked behavioral changes. For 6 months, DH and 3 grown up DC provided shared, round the clock care, with patience, humour and enormous love, putting thrown lives on hold. Unrelenting kindness.

I was recently at the funeral of a friend. V unexpected death. Knew the church would be packed. I went to the funeral on my own, slipped in quietly & sat up the back. I knew it would be very busy so I arrived early. This meant I arrived before the Order of Service was distributed. I Knelt down and prayed, thinking of the wonderful woman the world has lost. As more & more folk poured into the church I found myself quietly weeping. Didn't think anyone would notice. A lovely elderly lady who goes to mass every morning and was sitting in the pew across from me obviously noticed me. She quietly went to the back of church, returned with an order of service for me, squeezed my arm & mouthed "are you okay?" I just felt so looked after in that brief moment.

Next time I see her I'm going to tell her what a difference she made to me that day.

My lovely friend offered me a spare ticket to the ballet and sorted her husband to pick up and look after my kids until DH got home so I could go. Also arranged for us to get a lift there and back. Was so nice to have all the arrangements taken care of

When I was pregnant (planned), working overseas and the baby's father said that I had to choose between him or the baby, my sister said that she would bring the baby up for as long as I needed to figure out what to do. She said that it wouldn't be ideal but she wanted to give me another option rather than termination.

I kept the baby (now 22) and brought her up alone but appreciated the offer.

Total strangers on a farm in deepest rural Ireland 30+ years ago. DH and I were travelling with my DPs and had a gift for these folk from friends of friends of my DP who had heard they were headed for the Old Country.

We turned up unannounced mid afternoon, were welcomed, feted and fed, then DH and I were pressed to stay on and we did. DPs had a B&B booking, we hadn't.

We were taken on a bouncy ride across lanes and fields to meet the brother who was a priest. A bottle of Bushmills was broached and a party followed. We went back to sleep on the sofa by a turf fire and woke to fresh soda bread baked in the coals for breakfast with marmalade.

Never anything to match that, before or since.

I met up with a gay friend many years ago - 1990 - in Soho for lunch. Halfway through he reached forward to take my hand and said 'my darling I've got something to tell you'. I started to cry as I'd already guessed. Every waiter that walked by for the rest of our meal gave me a shoulder hug - they may have seen such scenes before.

@ParkheadParadise I'm so sorry that you lost your daughter. Thank you for sharing that because it is really comforting to know that there really are good people in this world, ones that really do care and do the right thing in terrible circumstances.

Evil boss in my first job basically constructively dismissed me from role I was otherwise really enjoying I told her I was looking elsewhere.. she said she wouldn't recommend me for another such role just because I made a couple of small mistakes, then a few weeks on insisted I should name a date I was leaving - not allowed to ask that and I knew it, but role was too low paid for it to be worth making a legal challenge.

Anyway, a colleague who'd arrived after me and been promoted over me kindly took me aside after work, told me everyone thought my treatment was unfair and offered to write a reference for me, as she was my senior. She was a bit nervous doing it as evil boss would be mad at her if she found out, but we both watched the post tray like hawks until the reference request arrived once I got offered a new role.

I am still working in the same field 19 years later - thanks to her!

@ParkheadParadise Thank you for sharing and I'm ever so sorry to hear that. I'm so glad that there was someone lovely to do even a small act of kindness during such a terrible thing. I hope you are well. Losing a child is an awful thing.

Scoobyboob it was never my intention to ask for entertainment maybe that says more about you than it does me. If i came across that way i appologise to ParkheadParadise but it was never ment in that way i genuinely ment it in the sense that i think i remember this in the media at the time. It was never ment in a nasty way.
