Or is my neighbour about my laundry...?

Name changed in case she's on mumsnet

Don't know NDN well. We are quiet and (I thought!) inoffensive so no issues for the last 6 months we've lived here. There's a low fence between our gardens.

Given that I live in the west of scotland, it's a rare opportunity to hang clothes out on the line to dry, which DH and I have been doing the past few days.

Today NDN appeared at the door and asked me to "be more careful" with my laundry. I initially thought something had blown into her garden and apologised. She said no, that us hanging out "personal items" was embarrassing for her and she didn't want her young sons (who are late primary age I think) seeing things like that. After clarifying she meant bras and knickers I admit I snorted with laughter a bit and said "but don't they see YOUR pants drying indoors!?" to which she said that I clearly didn't want to help and that she'd ask her DH to come over later to speak to my DH once he's in from work!

I have not brought my laundry in and have just done another load. She's glaring from her conservatory. AIBU to ignore her? Or should I bring my offensive undies in off the line?

Oh good grief! YANBU. I would put out extra knickers just to annoy her....

That's hilarious! Clearly YANBU!

She needs to get a grip. Unless they are crotchless studded leather bras and knickers she can mind her own business.

She's off her trolley.

Humans wear underwear shocker - her sons are in for a surprise when they do PHSE and sex ed...

Ignore her, hang out your washing and smile at her whilst she glares at you.

She's being odd. Lots of underwear flapping on washing lines around here.

She'd hate me... I use reusable sanpro & merrily dry it outside on the line when I have the opportunity with no thought to my neighbours delicate sensibilities.

To be fair to them, my neighbours dont spend their time ogling my washing line.

There's been threads like this before. Ignore her!!! Different planet.

I'd hang out some gimp masks and maybe some glittery nipple clamps too.
Not that I have such items but I'm sure they're available somewhere Grin

I love a good batshit neighbour thread Grin

Is her husband going to tell your husband to keep you in line or something? What difference does she think that will make?

I'll happily send you up a box or two if you need extra to hang out. My bras are ginormous, and would certainly give her something to talk about.

Unless you're putting out crotchless pants or fetishwear I think yanbu. She probably needs to tell her sons to stop staring at your pants!

She's going to get her husband to speak to your husband? Haha! Definitely put out more knickers. How ridiculous.

The kitten got into my knicker drawer and rolled around so they're all covered in white fur. I am tempted to wash them all.... Grin

I tend to hang my undies in the centre of the rotary thingy surrounded by larger items as I dont want all and sundry to see my pants Blush. However, NDN is being silly - they are just underwear - everyone wears them!!

Politely suggest she gets a life.

I'd tell her that I had taken them off the line as she had asked. Then festoon them along the fence.

You need stunt knickers to keep out there 24/7.

How very 19th century! Does she wear long skirts and a bonnet?

Too funny, definitely get a good seat for when she sends her husband round for the man-to-man talk!

Give your s&m gear an airing out there op!!

Yanbu! I would definitely be hanging every pair of knickers/bra I owned on the line now!

I'm not sure if I read it here or elsewhere but I vaguely remember a story of someone that dried all their underwear on an airer locked in their bedroom so their sons didn't have to see it.

Also no, my pants are pretty normal. DH is the kind of man who would look at a crotchless pant with confusion and mild alarm.

I have texted him and he has suggested that he puts on his wrestling singlet (which really IS a bit obscene. Why can't the man play football or something instead?) when he gets home and answers the door to the NDH DH mid-lunge.
