It's driving me crazy Grin

Here's a link to the John Lewis advert- take a look at the old movie showing on the television at 1 minute in, please.

Everybody thinks it's from It's A Wonderful Life, the embrace you can see at 3:21 in this clip:

But it really really isn't.

Nooooooooooo Grin

Look! Look at the link. It's not Donna Reed, and it's not from that film.

Incidentally, I just watched the whole YouTube clip from IAWL and cried my eyes out for the hundredth time Grin

I thought it was It's A Wonderful Life too. I'll have to look again now.

Is it the one with the plane and the bar and We'll always have Paris?

Maybe it's faked up and they could to get clearance?

You mean Gone With the Wind Ann?

Report
Gremlingirl · 07/11/2014 19:42

I don't they had planes in Gone With The Wind! You mean Casablanca, I think.

Ooh, I'll have to look up The Bishop's Wife now.

Interesting that it might be made up, I hadn't thought of that...

I have tweeted, but to no avail Sad

She looks far too happy for a start, Donna Reed is overcome by a mixture of anger, relief and the raging horn at that point surely. GrinGrinGrin

I don't think it's Casablanca because the man isn't wearing a coat.

BOFster · 07/11/2014 19:45

It's not Casablanca either- that was Ingrid Bergman, and I know I'd recognise her.

I can't say I recognise the actress, but mini on another thread suggested Barbara Stanwyk, and she does look pretty similar. Hmm.

Notorious?

Looks like Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman kissing on the balcony to me.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 07/11/2014 19:52

It's not that I don't think - I'd have to see proper screen shots but the version of IAWL he's got a child hanging off him in shot. They could have cropped the shot for be as though. Pretty sure you're meant to think it's that film

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/11/2014 19:54

It doesn't look like Loretta Young so I don't think it is the Bishop's wife.

Report
BOFster · 07/11/2014 19:55

It isn't Bergman though, and the man's neck isn't thickset enough to be Cary Grant.

Maybe not then. The plot thickens!

DoughnutSelfie · 07/11/2014 19:56

I thought The Bishops Wife but nope

Still wracking brains

Report
Xiomara · 07/11/2014 19:57

The clothes the man is wearing are wrong for Cary Grant too.

Trapper, I think this is the kiss you mean! and it isn't it. But my word it's fantastic Grin

My autocorrect seems to delight in inserting random exclamation marks. I think it's trying to tell me I've used them too often Angry
