I've learnt a shitload of stuff!

~ That it's possible to buy frozen, chopped onions
~ That there are people who drink more wine than I do
~ That my relationship is amazing and that my DP is a wonder
~ That I'm even more judgemental than I thought
~ That everyone is judging me all the time, and how little I care
~ That I should meal-plan
~ That I should be grateful every day for my health and that of my family
~ That I should be grateful that my DC will eat whatever is put in front of them

And mostly

~ That it doesn't matter what someone needs, someone else will know the answer/how to get it. Or will just do a bit of handholding until everything's better.

Pinot Tue 12-Jun-12 16:14:16

That Manny is the wisest person I know <true>

And that Tobes and I are freaky weirdos - but because we both are, we are actually normal. Just a different kind of normal smile

LadyBeagleEyes Tue 12-Jun-12 16:17:43

That there are other people in the world that share my sense of humour.
I love talking surreal crap with certain posters, and love the fact that they get it.

Pinot Tue 12-Jun-12 16:20:01

<steals LadyBE's surreal crap>

that'll learn ya

tabulahrasa Tue 12-Jun-12 16:21:43

That much larger amounts of people than I would ever have imagined actively dislike dogs and cats.

That people get upset by what I would class as meaningless chit chat (comments at bus stops or about pregnancy from workmates, etc.)

That cod has worms in it (eek)

ToastofWar Tue 12-Jun-12 16:23:53

Everything about invisible SNs and given me more knowledge of other SNs.

That there is still a battle to be had to educate re sexism, racism, disabilism(sp?),etc

That the vast majority of mothers do retain the wit and intelligence grin

judgingamy Tue 12-Jun-12 16:28:58

-how kind and insightful people can be
-that I deserve to be treated with respect
-that I have control over my life

LemonTurd Tue 12-Jun-12 16:31:51

<sorry for hijack> littlemachine is glass cleaner the same as window cleaner?

Roopoo Tue 12-Jun-12 16:33:32

That in my darkest days of PND there were some wonderful women with words of wisdom smile

thegingerone Tue 12-Jun-12 16:33:58

That MN can make you late for school pickup. blush a lot!

snotsville Tue 12-Jun-12 16:34:43

Ham? There's a "mumsnet preferred" ham?

FunnysInLaJardin Tue 12-Jun-12 16:36:34

that you can kepp carrot sticks for a week in the fridge in some water. I did so hate peeling carrots at 7.30 am, so thanks for that.

RoxyRobin Tue 12-Jun-12 16:50:16

That when men are being unfaithful they share a communal script which they follow to the letter.

SittingBull Tue 12-Jun-12 16:53:23

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

FoofFighter Tue 12-Jun-12 16:53:30

To put a handful of porridge oats in with your mince when making chilli/bol/savoury mince etc to make it go further, you don't even notice it (unless you put far too much in and end up with beef porridge)

That someone somewhere in real life or online is watching your every move and judging you for it rightly or wrongly.

The generosity of complete strangers thanks, but that is also counter-acted with the needless nastiness too sad

That if my DP offers to take me up the Oxo Tower, we aren't going for a meal grin

Not to google random things mentioned on here shock

And not to click on random links on here grin

littlemachine Tue 12-Jun-12 16:54:20

Yes lemon Now go and shine! I wish I could remember who imparted this wisdom so I could credit them.

CrispyCod Tue 12-Jun-12 16:55:12

That I should park in P&C spaces so that some MNetters will have something to judge! grin

DashingRedhead Tue 12-Jun-12 16:57:03

-That storing each set of bedding in one of the pillowcases will save you loads of time (can't believe I'd never come across that one).
-That the shared experience of MN is a lifeline when you don't know what to do.
-How to deal with someone as rude as my SIL.
-That even at an ungodly hour of the morning, when you're having a moment of work-wardrobe-doubt, someone will help you.
-That I'm not the only one paddling furiously under the water trying to make it all look swanlike and serene, that in fact is normal motherhood.

LadyClariceCannockMonty Tue 12-Jun-12 17:01:52

- that real-life MILs far outstrip fictional ones in their appalling/mad behaviour.
- that I'm vair vair lucky to have a (male) DP who just knows that housework/cooking are team sports, and doesn't have to be told/given lists/shown MN thread about it.
- that there are people who have weirder and more embarrassing crushes than I do.
- that a lot of people are considerably richer than me.
- that a lot of people are considerably poorer than me.
- lots of creative and brilliant swearwords/rude phrases. grin

Toby, how's your planning for your cafe going?

FoofFighter Tue 12-Jun-12 17:03:06

ooh will nick that tip about the bedding Dashing Redhead smile

Remembered another - most local areas have Facebook groups for selling tat unwanted goods on. Just put your town in the searchbar with sell and see what comes up.
I've made nearly £100 in a little over a month selling stuff I have lying around unused and its far handier than Ebay as its faster and no having to parcel up stuff and trudge to the PO.

DashingRedhead Tue 12-Jun-12 17:08:29

Isn't it great FoofFighter - I feel like some kind of domestic goddess every time I do it!

LeBFG Tue 12-Jun-12 17:48:24

That other people have got a mum as weird as mine - THAT was a revelation.

Oh, and I realised I can be wrong and it doesn't matter

BellaOfTheBalls Tue 12-Jun-12 17:51:57

snotsville naice ham is the ham of choice for MN-ers apparently. I'm relatively new here but have gleaned that much.

still can't understand what the whole nobdie thing is about or whether MN-ers love or hate PomBears though

YouOldSlag Tue 12-Jun-12 18:21:05

- Never speak to a pregnant woman. She will be offended, whatever you say.
- Instead of judging a child having a tantrum, it might be a child having an ASD episode.
- Don't use a disabled loo just because you've got a pushchair.
- When I feel poor, I see there are those who are so much poorer and coping admirably.
- What to cook in a caravan.
- WOHM or SAHM, you're still a mum all the time.
- My DH is a saint
- I am not alone.
- When I am sad and nothing can make me smile, I look in Classics until I weep with mirth.
- I don't feel lonely any more.
- It's like a brilliant encyclopaedia made just for me and includes everything I ever needed to know.
-I've just found out about the Oxo Tower- I will not be eating THERE.
