I'm quite sure I've just done something mad...

TMI alert! Have had a very bad tummy bug and am left in a position where venturing more that 30 seconds from the loo would be a foolish risk. I've decided that the water I'm drinking is passing through my body at great speed so in a rash moment I've swallowed a round piece of floaty plastic to time how long it takes to come out. I'm mad aren't I, too long on the sofa with only flat lemonade and salty crisps for company I think.

QuintessentialShadows Thu 04-Nov-10 11:25:09

you what?

you are timing it, I hope?

otherwise you would have to do it again.

TrillianAstra Thu 04-Nov-10 11:25:13

Anything you swallow will come out in poo not wee.

You should have used beetroot to dye your wee.

juneybean Thu 04-Nov-10 11:25:47

You sound like you've got too much time on your hands haha grin

...But I do want to know when it comes out...

QuintessentialShadows Thu 04-Nov-10 11:26:15

I think op has a tummy bug and is passing water.

Thingumy Thu 04-Nov-10 11:26:23

Sweetcorn would of sufficed.

TrillianAstra Thu 04-Nov-10 11:26:58

Solid things pass through your stomach to your intestine and out of your bowel.

Wee is filtered out of blood - so tiny tiny things (sugars, protein, fat, the colour that makes beetroot red apparently) and water pass into your blood and excess water and waste products are filtered out by your kidneys and make wee.

If you we out the plastic thing you need to go to your doctor immediately.

TrillianAstra Thu 04-Nov-10 11:27:40

Ah, ok, I get it now Quint.

GrimmaTheNome Thu 04-Nov-10 11:27:55

She's not worried about wee, Trillian - tummy bugs make a lot water pass straight through the digestive system (hence the problem of dehydration)

Not sure how 'floaty plastic' travels - sweetcorn might have been a better marker, should anyone else be inclined for such self experimentation.

Geocentric Thu 04-Nov-10 11:28:00

You do realize that now you'll have a whole load of MNers waiting for that bit of plastic to reappear? Half-hourly updates, please!!! grin

InmyheadIminParis Thu 04-Nov-10 11:28:06

rofl grin

TrillianAstra Thu 04-Nov-10 11:28:09

When I see the words 'water' and 'passing' in close proximity I assume wee.

QuintessentialShadows Thu 04-Nov-10 11:31:25

But Trillian, I did not know this, so thank you, I learnt something new today. smile

ShatnersBassoon Thu 04-Nov-10 11:32:09

That is mad. I like your cavalier attitude to personal safety.

Good luck with sifting through the rusty water.

JustKeepSparkling Thu 04-Nov-10 11:32:42

Intrigued to know the answer now - hope it does come out!

JustKeepSparkling Thu 04-Nov-10 11:33:10

I suppose it will float in the toilet water so she can spot it more easily?

lostinwails Thu 04-Nov-10 11:34:18

Sweetcorn, I so should have posted before I swallowed the bright red plastic! Now I feel even more of an idiot! And no I wasn't expecing it to come out in my wee, can you imagine the pain of passing plastic down a urethra ooooow! If I don't get better by the afternoon I shall have some sweetcorn! (I am a science geek, just thought I would liven up a day of sitting on the sofa!)

juneybean, I will let you know when it arrives at it's destination!

kreecherlivesupstairs Thu 04-Nov-10 11:35:12

I am staring at the screen in disbelief.
My money is on a two hour gap twixt mouth and arse.

Thingumy Thu 04-Nov-10 11:36:38

What type/shape of red plastic did you eat?

Geocentric Thu 04-Nov-10 11:37:08

Oooh, bets. Good idea kreecher! I bet 1h30mins

ShatnersBassoon Thu 04-Nov-10 11:37:48

How big is the piece of plastic? How often are you evacuating? I need more details before I commit to my estimate of passage time.

Thingumy Thu 04-Nov-10 11:38:47

47mins here

JustKeepSparkling Thu 04-Nov-10 11:39:16

When did the clock start, 11.23?

I vote for 45 mins = 12.08 grin

MayorNaze Thu 04-Nov-10 11:39:30

you are very mad

and obv very bored

my money is on it reappearing by 13.00 UK time

what if it gets stuck? shock

MayorNaze Thu 04-Nov-10 11:40:56

providing it does reappear you cuold maybe experiment with other small and contrast speed/state of reappearance etc...

makes those "horrible science" experiment boxes you buy look very amateur i must say...
