Does anyone have experience of this? (If yes, but any advice would be appreciated.)

My friend is around 25 weeks pregnant with monochorionic diamniotic twins (I can't remember exactly, could be a week more or less), and at her most recent scan it turned out that one of the babies has died.

Now she's got to go in for biweekly scans, and apprently also an MRI, to keep track of what's happening with the other baby. Apparently the death of Baby A has caused or can cause a problem with blood flow or blood pressure (not sure exactly), which puts Baby B at risk for brain damage.

Can anyone tell me anything about this, have any of you had experience with this (I'd of course prefer to hear from those of you for whom it turned out well) - any advice would be welcome.
Thank you!

Hi Jacksmama.

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend's experience. I don't know much about twins, but is the potential problem for the surviving baby in any way connected with or similar to twin to twin transfusion? I know a tiny bit about that because my friend experienced it towards the end of her pregnancy with twins. One twin does have mild cerebral palsy but has made excellent progress - helped by a lot of physio - and can do all the things that his sibling can do.

So, it turned out well.

Because MCDA twins share a placenta blood flow through this is also shared. This is why the complication twin to twin transfusion can occur, which I experienced in my pregnancy with identical twin boys.I also had twice weekly scans, heart rate monitoring etc. I was VERY lucky that I ended up with 2 healthy babies and cannot begin to imagine how your friend must feel. Sorry I am unable to give advice on her particular situation but hope all ends well for the remaining twin.
