I read this today and thought you might like to read.... nature can do amazing things...

This birth occurred in England at home and the MW has permission to forward this and it is okay for others to forward it on if they like.....

"I have huge news to pass on. On January 28th, 2005 in the wee early morning hours I attended the birth of undiagnosed fraternal triplets!
Yes, count them, one-two-three separate babies! The woman I was working with refused a u/s after I had confirmed two heart beats. I was fine with that, I have attended several other twin births. She insisted on a waterbirth! I agreed as long as number one presented head first! She gained about 69lbs total and felt 'ALIVE', as she said at every prenatal! She did measure a bit big, even for twins, but she was slightly overweight to begin with. She went into labor at 37.6 wks, which is great for twins, but damn near miraculous for triplets! Labor and birth from first real contraction until birth of third placenta lasted a total of five hours. She was in the jacuzzi and the first boy all but flew out into the water. I didn't get to check for presenting part it was so fast! About six minutes later the second boy came out in three pushes followed closely by the first placenta. Then about five minutes later, more pushing, I thought it was the second placenta, but it was a placenta and a foot!!! Yes, the girl that had been hiding, had stretched out and was dancing her way out! I got mum out of the jacuzzi and standing to birth her daughter. All were fine; girl was a little slow to start but a little room air and she was breathing and pink almost instantly.

1:23AM Elliot Michael, 6.11lbs & 19 inches
1:29AM Elijah Ian, 6.2lbs, & 18.75 inches
1.34AM Elizabelle Lorelei 7lbs & 20 inches (huge, for hiding!)

Update:

The babies are doing well, they are about a month old now and all weigh 9-9.5 lbs. Their mother is bfing them about 75%. She has received help from her church, including nannies on a rota, and from local people and shops."

Lordy!

Why would anyone 'refuse an ultrasound', out of interest?

There is controversial research on U/S safety... if you want to know more I suggest you get the AIMS booklet on it.
