Sleep training twins

Hi all I have 5 month old twins and I'm trying to find a way for them to learn how to self soothe and put themselves to sleep at night. I'm not sure if they are too young to self soothe that's why I'm asking for advice I have a 3 year old toddler who goes to nursery and needs his sleep but I'm finding that I'm having to rock and pat the twins to sleep every night and if I am not able to soothe both of them at the same time one will scream until I have finished with the other twin. My DS (3) goes to nursery and when the twins start crying they wake him up which breaks his sleep. I'm just basically trying to see if any of you multiple mummies have any ideas as to how I can teach my twins how to self soothe as I do not want to get into the pattern of rocking and patting them to sleep as I made this mistake with my DS and he didn't go into his own bed until he was two and a half years old and I don't want to make that same mistake with the twins 😊

When mine were 7 months we did controlled crying with my son. It’s horrible but worked well. He was waking up about 10 times a night and I crashed the car I was so tired so it had to be done. UNlike some people he only ever cried before bed from night one, he cried 40 mins and then slept all night. Now 14 months he sleeps so well and it so daughter who is the problem, but don’t mind that cos I don’t have to worry about son being up too!

Oh should say I think even 7 months is quite early for controlled crying...

Not sure I can really help - it took ages for mine to sleep! But one thing that helped us was putting them to sleep on a double mattress on the floor. That way I could lie between them and soothe both at the same time.

My b/g twins have dummies but we still had to rock them to sleep.
We gradually started putting them in their cots with less rocking to see what they'd do. At around 9 months DD got it and we could put her down in the cot and she'd fall asleep, DS took a while longer. They still have their dummies at 16 months.
I'm pretty sure at 5 months we were still feeding to sleep and attempting the delicate transfer from arms to cot with fingers crossed they'd stay down
