TERRIFIED about vanishing twin syndrome? :(

Hello, I don't know how many twin mums/expectant twin mums use this, but I am going out of my mind a bit. And I know there's nothing I can do, but I need to let it out, my partner, my mum, my sister and my best friend are getting fed up or reassuring me :(
I am expecting twins, I am 12+6. I have had 2x early scans, one at 7 weeks and one at 10 weeks. Both have shown heartbeats and fine growth etc. They are in separate sacs, and they think seperate placentas.
My 12 week scan has been booked for next friday when I will be 14 weeks. It feels so long since my last scan, and the week after my scan I had a day of severe back ache I had to leave work, severe sickness and severe cramping, all in one day, other than that, I've been fine, nausea and all symptoms seem next to none.
I am going out of my mind, worrying about vanishing twin syndrome. I know this can happen with no symptoms and I'm just so worried :(
I hate that everyone wants to be excited and telling everyone when I keep thinking something bad may have happened. I know I can only wait until next Friday, I'm just going crazy thinking about it.
Just looking for support I guess x

Oh lovely, try not to worry. Twin pregnancies are all about worry, to be honest, as they're higher risk. But you can't do anything at this stage to change what will be, and the worry will simply put your body under stress.

The multiple births threads on here don't get huge amount of traffic. I can thoroughly recommend joining tamba, the twins and multiple births association. They run a helpline you can call about just about anything

I was worried about vanishing twin syndrome too. The doctor who did my 12 week scan said it tends to happen early in the pregnancy, at 6,7,8 weeks. So you have an early scan at 7 weeks and then by 12 weeks there is only one baby. Once you have seen two babies on a scan at 10 weeks it is far, far less likely. I had awful cramping before my twelve week scan too. I suppose your uterus has to stretch even more than usual! Good luck for next Friday.

You are too far along for vanishing twin syndrome xx

Thank you everyone, I hope you are right.
Thank you so much for responding, I'm not stupid I know I just need to relax and wait it out. I just need support in worrying... I really feel alone and that I'm annoying and boring everyone with my worries because they just want to be excited x

Hi
Just wanted to say I'm worried about the same thing! I had an early scan done and I'm now having my dating scan tommorow - I'll be 13 weeks.

Try not to worry too much as it wont stop anything from bad happening and it won't make anything good happen either so it's pointless although very hard not to worry, I know :(

There's no reason to say that everything isn't perfect with your twins and everything will go just fine! Try stay positive and hope things go well for you! Flowers

Really, I was 13 weeks Friday, I will be 14 weeks this Friday when I have my scan.
When was your early one done? I had mine at 7 weeks and then 9 weeks 6 days... it's been torture in between.
Please let me know how you get on tomorrow, and I hope they are both there for you I really do x

I had an early scan done at 10 weeks - one was measuring at 10 weeks and another one a couple of days behind but they said it was normal...

It's awful waiting game in between scans I too have anxiety that something may have gone wrong in this time..
Of course I'll let let you know how my scan goes tommorow Smile

Mine was similar, one measured at 31mm the other at 26mm, I don't know how far apart that made them they didn't say, so that's been worrying me too.

All the hope to you today, hope your scan goes well I really do xx

Read quite a lot about this as l had to write an essay on lefthandedness . I am a leftie and has always fascinated me why only such a small percentage are. After coming across this theory that we are one of (mirror ) twins l have felt a little sad ever
since that l had a right handed opposite number that disappeared. I do remember though that this syndrome happens very early on so as others have said l am sure you will be fine.

'that l may have had ' l should've said as it's never been proven and has been dismissed as an explanation for LHedness in sone scientific circles.

That's interesting bah. Do you have any links? I'd like to read up on that.

It's ok I've just find a quick google. My father and my son are both left handed. I've never heard to this until today!

Anyway, OP, sounds like you are far enough along now to not be so worried. Good luck! Keep us updated Flowers

My young daughter is looking very likely to be a leftie. She was an ivf baby so there was only ever one in there. I'm not convinced by the mirror theory.

But it would explain the discrepancy in the percentage of LH compared to RH to which there is no real answer. But don't worry OP all these articles seem to say VT syndrome occurs often before the mother even knows she's pregnant so a very early stage thing.

Sorry meant to say the most interesting parts are in the replies so need to read those further down aswell .

I have 2 left handed children and did hear about that theory when my first turned out to be left handed.
Nobody else in family is left handed and grandfather was one of a twin.

Op try not to worry, I know it difficult but like pp said it is something that happens early on.

Hi yes everything went well sorry for the late response. Both twins are still there and looking well. They're sharing a placenta though so that's worrying
