Best pram for twins?

Amee1992x · 22/06/2017 12:05

Looking for our pram, first time twin mum already have a 5 year old. Anything else people can recommend? I just want to be as prepaired as possible, due in October.

Hello!

We've noticed that this thread is quite old now, and some of the product recommendations are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing the top-performing pushchairs on the market to find the best double buggy for twins 2019.

Hope this helps! Flowers

I had an icandy which I really didnt like, got a Out and About Nipper when they were 16 months which I loved and would recommend.

Phillipa12 · 22/06/2017 12:17

I have an out and about nipper double but dont have twins, however, it came from my sisters friend who does have twins and in their mini multiple group it certainly seems to be the popular buggy!

We have a cosatto for when they are a little older, was for my neices when they were staying over but they moved so we rarely see them. Was only used a handful of times so we are gonna reuse! Just looking for a pram now but I don't know what's good it's been a while since I done this lol and I think my pram was second hand back then 🤷🏻‍♀️

If I was you I would decide whether you want a side by side pram or one where they are kind of on top of each other.
Then decide if you will need a travel system (ie ability to put car seats on the pram).
Once you've decided these your choice will narrow.
Personally I went for mountain buggy duet as it was the narrowest side by side and car seats fitted on (they are almost 8 months now and I no longer attach the car seats as the babies got so heavy!)

moggle · 23/06/2017 13:20

Also measure the gap you have to get the buggy through the front door, if you want a side by side and want to be able to bring it inside. Although our doorway is 76cm, we can't push the door back that far so the gap is more like 73cm. That means only the nipper or the mountain buggy are options for us if we want a side by side.

Amee1992x · 23/06/2017 14:23

We have a pretty standard front door but our patio doors are by the side and round the back so we would be fine as there's only one step up to these, 5/6 to the front door 😊

Definitely the mountain buggy duet. It's brilliant.

Amee1992x · 23/06/2017 19:44

I'm looking for something from birth though? Am I being stupid but everyone's posting buggys I thought they were for when they baby's were older?

I'd also recommend the mountain buggy duet. It's suitable from birth.

43percentburnt · 23/06/2017 20:38

We are happy with our city select. Easy to put up and down. Babies can face one another, towards you or away from you. Will take car seats, bassinets or seats. Very happy with it.

43percentburnt · 23/06/2017 20:41

We have had the city select from birth. Two babies one bassinet to begin with - very cute!

Hi, we got a Bugaboo Donkey & absolutely love it! The only downside IMO is the price as it's expensive but I thought I may sell it on once we are finished with it to recoup some of the cost.

I love that it's side by side and at it fits through most standard doors so I don't find the width to be a problem. I bought the car seat adapter for £25 from gumtree.

I'm so glad I got a side by side rather than an up and down. My twins are only 5m so still in the carrycots but it converts into a buggy. However, I was also given a double city jogger that I'll Likely use down the line as it's much lighter but I just love the side by side pram whilst they are still little.

Good luck with the shopping.

For mountain buggy you can buy bassinets which turn into parent facing seats once they are too big for bassinets

Mollyboom · 24/06/2017 06:35

Out and about. I have used this since birth. It changes to a more upright position when they are older. It is fantastic. Easy to manoeuvre and although side by side it fits through nearly all doors. Also, it is much cheaper than the bugaboo and i candy which I didn't like as I didn't like the stacked position on these where effectively the bottom twin was looking at the bottom of the other carrycot. I went to Mothercare and tried them all out.

Waffles80 · 24/06/2017 06:35

There are loads of twin Facebook groups were you might get more advice - or buy one secondhand. Want me to post links?

The mountain buggy and the city jogger are brilliant- you can put a carrycot on them but you don't have to as they both lie flat.

We had (still have - girls are 3), the city jogger mini. It's a side-by-side. It's been great - pushes and turns easily, excellent hood and folds so well. When going on holiday I pop the wheels off and it folds up even smaller in the boot.

Friends with the mountain buggy also love it.

Waffles80 · 24/06/2017 06:36

(The mountain buggy - that is! Have several friends with the mountain buggy who've been v pleased with it).

sleepyMe12 · 24/06/2017 06:57

Oyster max tandem.
I'm using it for my 4 month and 20 month but can get carrycots for both twins etc.
Folds nicely, easy to push etc

moggle · 24/06/2017 08:50

Waffles I really wish we could get the city mini double - we have the GT single for our daughter since birth and it has been amazing. Bit sad we don't get to use it for another baby. But it's too wide for our door, grr.

ellesbellesxxx · 24/06/2017 08:54

We have the mountain buggy duet.. with cocoons so they face us!We will sell on the cocoons when they outgrow them!

moggle · 24/06/2017 09:12

ellesbelles which cocoons did you get so they could face you without sliding down? I really like the cocoon idea as two hard carrycots get pricey even if you get them secondhand. With them being winter babies and possibly on the small size I really don't want them just in the main seat to start with.
Also something else I've been wondering about this idea, if they're facing you are they still under the hood, presumably not? I have a real hatred of buggy rain covers - managed without ours for 2.5 years!

penny14 · 24/06/2017 11:22

One of the reasons I love our Donkey is that it is a proper pram that then converts into the buggy (that you can use car seats on as well).

When I looked at the mountain duet etc it's predominantly a buggy that you can put carry cots on but you can still see the buggy seat underneath the carry cots - IYSWIM.

We get loads of compliments on our pram & in the end I'm glad we splurged on it.

Good luck with the shopping.

Landy10 · 24/06/2017 11:46

The mountain buggy is a proper pram when you put the cots on the seats aren't there.
You get Carry cots, these are then taken to pieces to form small parent facing seats. When you are done with these you then use the outward facing (totally separate set) seats.
It's only if you use the cocoons that they go on the seats.

Sorry just realised didn't reply!
The mountain buggy newborn cocoons.. got them from John Lewis! We will sell them on again after hopefully so didn't mind the outlay :)

Zebrasinpyjamas · 29/06/2017 09:18

I love my out n about. I got the four wheeled version as I preferred the flatter seats. Its so light and easy to steer. I got the carrycots for the first two months though as I wanted parent facing. Adjusting the seats when the children are in there is fiddly though.

exhaustedtwinmummy · 03/07/2017 21:37

We also loved our mountain buggy duet and we were glad we bought two carrycots (which we are looking to sell on.) As we wanted them rear facing initially. We have the buggy, carrycots and two cosytoes for it. We found the width of the buggy fantastic and it fitted in our smallish cars no problem at all. Also not too heavy. Would definitely recommend!
