I'm not expecting twins, mine will be 5.5 in January 2018 but congratulations!

I remember the shock at finding out at our 14 week scan. I had dcda non identical girls. All the best with your pregnancy Flowers

I'm not expecting twins either. Mine are 3 months old but I saw your thread and thought I'd pop in to say congratulations and maybe bump it a little bit for you!

Hi, expecting twins 31st January here! Already got a DD age 2.5. Can't decide if this makes me more or less scared than having twins first time round!!

Thanks for replying everyone 😊!
We are expecting non identical too.
Did you guys give birth early?
We are so shocked but happy at the same time. I think I'm glad these are our first as we will only have them to worry about if that makes sense 😂 we can just concentrate on them and try getting to grips with been parents! X

How / why /when did you find out they are non identical? We are pretty sure ours are non identical as they are from IVF where we had two embryos transferred, but it is possible (v slim chance) that one split. They have their own sacs though think that is a good thing!

Aww you had ivf, how lovely you ended up with twins. Well i haven't been told fully actually but one of the sonographers at work said they will most likely be non identical as there in different sacs also. When did you have your first scan then moggle? Where you shocked?

We had a scan at 7 weeks. Got another one next Tuesday (9 wks) too. Big shock that both implanted as they were crummy embryos, and we'd had three failed cycles since last summer. They were frozen ones from the cycle we got our DD, so in a way they are all triplets! We were always going to stop at two :-)

Awww that's so lovely!! Are they private scans then? I had a private one at 10 weeks because I was having no symptoms at all, all the way through and was worried something was wrong so had a scan and my jaw nearly touched the screen when I saw them! We have our 12 week scan on weds I can't wait

congratulations op twins are incredible. I have 6mo twins, it's flown by! Mine were 9 weeks early but after a 5 week stay in SCBU they seem to be fine :)

The 7wk one is standard for IVF- if you get a positive test they have to check that the pregnancy is viable (has a heartbeat) andalso not ectopic as there's a slightly higher risk of that with IVF. I think we get an extra 9 week one with twins to check they are both still progressing ok. Our 12 week scan is on July 20th.
Have you told many people? Officially we've only told our parents and one v close couple of friends but I've told a few select others cos it's just so exciting! So hard keeping it to ourselves!

Thanks alittle. I'm glad your little ones are fine now that must of been a hard time for you!

Were you shocked to see twins then moggle? We've nearly told everyone now to be honest I waited until after the 10 week scan but once I saw they were fine and strong heart beat ect we couldn't hold it in. Still a slight worry now until the 12 week scan but I'm hoping I'll be able to relax after that... wishful thinking ey!

Me! I found you again! Expecting twins 6th January Grin
They are dcda twins so 99.9% likely to be non identical. It's my second pregnancy and dc1 is 16 months now.

Hi chocolate!
Yes we were very shocked especially DH. I'd been feeling really ill and never got nauseous with DD, so probably should've expected it, but just thought all pregnancies are different!
I think we'lls tart telling people after next week's scan assuming all is ok. DH is keen to tell as many people as possible face to face and we're seeing lots of friends next weekend so it's a good opportunity.
I read on the NHS website that a third of identical twins are DCDA - ours are DCDA too. Never realised all the ins and outs of twins until now!

Hi chocolate! I was meaning to pop back and ask you to join me on this thread! Nice to see you again!
I don't understand all these terms people are using for there twins haha! We had a private one but they never said anything about what type of twins or anything so it's baffling me. Hopefully I'll find out more at the 12 week scan.
We wanted to tell people face to face too we've managed to do it quite well actually, just taking our time to work around all the family

I read about it on the NHS website.
One interesting thing I read was that if both twins are the same sex you can't know if they're non identical or identical until after they're born by DNA test! (Though I guess if they come out looking completely different that would be a giveaway!)

It was written on the notes from our private scan "dcda" so I did some research. I also had a private scan to make sure all was ok as I did not feel pregnant at all! Still don't really apart from when I take pregnacare and feel sick! And I am reeeeally thirsty which was the same with dc1 and was the first thing that made me think I might be pregnant.

That's interesting moggle,
I'm going to look in the notes from my private scan now see if it says it.
I feel exactly the same chocolate don't feel pregnant at all. Does not help with the anxiety at all! I've been getting headaches but not sure if that's down to pregnancy or not

33.3% chance of identical twins if dcda.

3 of my friends with dcda twins have identical twins. Mine are blonde and brunette so bo need to test.

What is dcda? The sonogropher at work said ours are DIDI twins? I don't really know what that means. But looked in our report from the private scan and it doesn't say anything about what twins they are. Would 10 weeks be too early though?

chocolateshortcake · 24/06/2017 19:48

Didi is the same as dcda. Dichorionic diamniotic. I didn't realise it was as high as 33.3%, the sonographer told us something like because they saw a lambda sign it's most likely to be non identical. Either is fine 🙈

Report
dangle90 · 24/06/2017 19:59

I didn't realise there was chance at all with them been didi twins. Thanks for clarifying it's the same thing haha!
