Interested in people's stories of when they discovered there was more than one baby in there!
I am awaiting my first scan,I'm huge, it's my 4 th pregnancy so I expect to be large but I am/was a twin (brother died at birth) I want to be prepared just incase.
So stories please! 😊

First scan at 14 weeks. I was already out of my normal trousers at that point, but didn't have a clue.

At first scan, just over 12 weeks. Fourth pregnancy here too! I just laughed. Sonographer said how many children do you already have? Ah three, well here are four and five! Dh couldn't get out of work so had to tell him on the phone! I did have a kind of sense it might be twins, but can't exactly put my finger on why other than my symptoms were more constant than previous pregnancies - nausea all day and night and so on. Wasn't any bigger at that stage than previous pregnancies. If it hadn't been twins I would probably have forgotten all about that sense though! All the best either way - come back and let us know!

At 12 week scan. I just bloody knew it was twins. So i got on the bed said to the sonographer well now we'll find out if I'm right about it being twins. DH scoffed and rolled his eyes and tbh so did the sonographer.....and of course I was right. Grin
DH didn't speak for about 3 hours and was taken to the pub by his mates at school pick up!!!

13 weeks. I was very athletic back then (I had a six pack for Christ sake) and didn't look pregnant at all until about 20 weeks until I suddenly 'popped' (but even then a baggy jumper could have hidden it). I didn't 'know' or 'show' anymore than a normal pregnancy though. Honestly, just being pregnant was quite a shock so I didn't even think about it being twins.

We do have a pattern of twins in my family though, my mum was a twin and had many multiple pregnancies in which she miscarried one baby but kept the other, and had one set of twins. My sister now also is expecting twins (originally triplets but lost one early on/ she had early scans due to previous miscarriages). I don't know the science behind it, but it doesn't seem to affect the boys.

At the first scan, 12 weeks. The sonographer was ever so quiet and kept tapping buttons and I thought something was wrong and then she said there were two babies in there Shock I was in total shock and kept telling her there couldn't be and that I already had a one year old and a nearly three year old and it wasn't possible for me to have twins as well, how would I cope? My husband was silent with the occasional nervous laugh. I kept telling her she must have got it wrong Grin
They are nearly 12 now and we have just about got over the shock Grin

Good luck OP Smile

moonface that made me smile! My children are older but as it's my 4th pregnancy I do wonder how I would cope and more importantly how easy it is to squeeze two babies in (to the house) rather than one! 😂

13 weeks at the first scan!
The sonographer said that she would probably be quiet for a bit while she located the baby. That was fine. Then she said "Ok, here are the two heartbeats"

DH nearly fell off his chair! We laughed, cried, swore and laughed some more.

It was my first pregnancy too! No twins in the family, but since my girls are identical, that's not hereditary anyway!

13 weeks. Sonographer switched my screen off and I immediately thought something was wrong. She kept quiet for a long while then asked if I had twins in the family.

Dh and I were utterly shocked. I knew I ovulated twice so it had entered my mind but never actually thought it would happen.

9 ish weeks... i had some bleeding so i went for an early scan. The trainee sonographer said "ok theres one... and there's the other" i said ".....ohhhhh shit" and then apologised for my language. Dh just beamed from ear to ear!

5+5 - had some bleeding so went to EPU and was told that there were 2 sacs. Still to this day it makes me smile because (thinking I'd had a miscarriage) I asked "what does that mean?" and the very patient nurse said (whilst probably thinking what a stupid question) "twins".

She then sent me off home with an appointment to go back in 2 weeks to see if they were both still there Shock.

I went back at 7+5 and saw 2 little heartbeats Smile.

I am a twin and my mum had always told me it skipped a generation. Fraternal twins are definitely genetic - my twin sister has also had fraternal twins. The odds increase with age and subsequent pregnancies too! I think its looking likely for you!
