Twins very sleepy (during the day!)

My gorgeous DCDA twins are 8 days old now. They're quite sleepy during the day but they are waking roughly 3 hourly for feeding.

Nighttimes are sort of chaotic with the twins tag teaming each other Shock

I know newborns sleep a lot and also confuse night and day but I don't remember my DS sleeping this much.

Is this normal? Is it because they were a little premature? (35+6).

And is there any way to encourage them to feed at the same time at night? They are breastfed.

TIA wise multiple mums!!!

My dcda girls born at 34+5 slept loads! They continued to do so until 6 months. Mine spent 2 weeks in scbu and were on a 3 hour feeding schedule which we stuck to religiously after they came home. I would wake them every 3 hours to feed during the day and let them sleep until they woke at night. I would always feed them together. Mine fed 3 hourly during the day until I weaned them at 6 months.

Even now at 2.7 they love to sleep.

Congratulations!

My mcma girls, 36+2 or 35+4 by my more educated brain. They too were on a strict 3hrly feeding schedule during day and naturally woke up at 3hrs during night. They slept loads and loads for about 5 months before having longer awake times. At 4 wks our night times became challenging where they would tag team all night.
Have you thought about waking them at same time during night to see if you can change the tag teaming? It worked really well for us until the allergies kicked in

Thanks for the input!

I've tried waking them at the same time for feeds but it's hard to encourage the sleepier twin to latch and they end up having a little suck and then falling back to sleep!

Sometimes they do wake at the same time which is nice Smile

It's fine for now because my DS1 is in crèche and my DH is off work. But when that changes in a few weeks I simply won't have the time to BF all day because my DS1 will need me as well!

They feed much more efficiently together as well so it'd be great to try to encourage that where possible.

Just got to keep trying I guess Smile

Mine were super sleepy. Did 3hr feeds too. I preferred to feed mine separate so can't help there I'm afraid. Good luck

Hi Eagle. Any improvement with this? We're only two days home but like you, had brilliant routine in hospital which was working most of the time but now we're home it has completely gone to pot and we're both up all night dealing with the tag team of scream/act hungry/latch for a minute then fall asleep/repeat whilst waking up their sibling. We were combi feeding in hospital because they were so small and I'm tempted to just express sufficient for their needs so they can get it via a bottle over night as this is the easier way for them but know this will completely undermine my attempts at establishing exclusive breast feeding. Any tips you've learned??
Hope you're going ok otherwise snd DS is enjoying going a big brother x

Yeah mine were very sleepy. I used to try and wake them to feed them in the day and they simply wouldn't!

Don't worry about it, it will sort itself out. Can't deny it's a pain in the arse, but IME there is literally nothing you can do to change it. They will grow out of it.
