howand when do i get rid of dummies for sleep

Hello,
My girls are 2 yrs 1 month, they've had dummies for sleeping and long car journeys (our parents live 4 hours and 7 hours away). They have always slept fine. Now we are thinking about getting rid of the dummies I just don't know how to go about it. And when to do it. Has anyone got advice on how we can do it without causing them too much distress, they would cry if I didn't give them their dummy to settle. Is it best to wait til they've got all their teeth? Is it best to wait til we've made the transition to beds and done away with napping ? Help ! X
