Not much help really, but at our second scan (think it was around 16/17 weeks) we were told our twins were identical as there was only one placenta visible on the scan. As they could not determine whether there were two sacs or one (one is higher risk) I then had to have more frequent scans for the remainder of my pregnancy. Fortunately all was well (ID boys born by c section 36 weeks). I didn't want to know the sex of my bubbas (I think its like opening your Christmas presents early!) So all I knew was they were the same but such a lovely surprise on the say. I thought all along they were girls! X

We found out at 20 week scan.

Good luck with your scan. Having twins really is the best thing ever!

They probably can tell you, but whether they will or not depends on the sonographer and the hospital.
What is your scan for?

I think it's policy to give you the choice with twins - that's what I was told although we didn't want to know. I'm sure they will be able to tell at 17 weeks

I found out at 20 week scan. I had to know to prepare myself and my DD who was 2. Had identical twin boys.

found out at 20 week scan. They said definitely a boy and not sure about the other one. Who was a girl!

good luck - it's a tiring journey but so exciting!

My twins will be 13 next month. 20 week scan confirmed one was a boy but did not get the girl confirmed until 28 weeks - had many routine (for twins) scans in-between but they always seemed to have lots of other things to check!

I found out at 16 weeks, but that was a 4D scan. I'm not sure if you can tell on the normal scans at that point. The scan I had was specifically to find out the genders, and that was the earliest that they would do it.

I had one done at 16 weeks exactly at baby bond and they got it right but the imagining was much much clearer

Thanks everyone! had the scan today (my friend works in a private scan place and was trialing new equipment) there was 3 sonographers in the room and they were all in agreement that I'm having 2 boys! with my ds and dh I'm well and truly outnumbered!! Glad I found out and can visualise them a bit better now! Thanks for all your replies

We found out at our 20 week scan, non-ID boys... It was, ahem, very obvious! They're wee exhibitionists already! I'm now 30+6, and getting very uncomfortable :(

Found out at 20 weeks, but doctors were so certain from much earlier on that they were DCDA that I had already guessed that docs knew there was a boy and girl in there, ie definitely NOT identical.

Hi I found out at 20 weeks with my twin boys. I didn't with my 3rd baby and for me I didn't bond as quickly. But then I hate surprises! Congratulations :-)

Massive congrats!

I found out at 12 weeks we were having ID twins but didn't want to find out sex. With scans every two weeks it got difficult for the sonographers to get pix for us that didn't give the game away! We had the scanner at our 20 week scan write it in an envelope for us as a game and she was right! Our beautiful ID boys are now 15m old and running and climbing everywhere! I was convinced right up until they were delivered by EMCs at 35 wks that they were girls - I was the only one who thought so. Now I couldn't imagine not having boys! Good luck! x

I found out at 20 weeks (scan with my sister); never told dh I knew he still don't know -I wished I had of waited his face in the delivery room when Dr told him he had a son (already had dd) and then a second son was awesome.

On the flip side when i was pregnant I chose 'boys names' dh chose girls names.. when I already knew they were both boys
