Presents for twins

I am just sorting xmas pressies at the mo and have three year old twins to buy for. Their mum has requested something to help with their numbers-plenty of stuff around to choose from. Question is should I get them identical presents or slightly different stuff on the same theme. I am struggling to work out the point of one household having two identical jigsaws/same book (for example) -wouldn't it be better to have different things they can swap and get more learning out of? Or in the interests of fairness should they have the same stuff?

I've got twin girls - I'd prefer different versions of the same thing

I gave lots of twins in our family / friends group, and I always buy slightly different but similar things for twins, and only ever a shared present if their parents have asked for that.

For this sort of thing, I'd prefer different versions on the same theme, unless it was something they'd use up - say a sticker book or suchlike. I agree doubling up on jigsaws etc doesn't make sense.

My siblings are twins & I'd always buy individual gifts. Unless they ask for identical things I think it's treating them like they aren't individuals. But different twins will feel differently!

What smallbeesaid ^^
I am a twin and hated being treated as 'one of the twins' all the time - individual gifts all the way!

Thanks everyone. I had actually bought them similar but different things already but was doubting myself so it looks like I should trust my instincts!

Don't get two of the same, waste of money!
