Hi ladies, congratulations on your twins! It must be such an exciting time :)

Can I ask you ladies, when you got your Down's syndrome test results, did you have a result for each of the babies or for just your pregnancy???

We didn't have the test this time...We were told at the 12 week scan that it wasn't possible to have the test at our hospital as part of the usual scan. We could have opted to go to another hospital around 80 miles away but decided not to. It was our understanding that the test provides a result for each baby but since you're not able to selectively abort, we made the choice not to have the test.

I had the combined test at my local NHS hospital (scan and bloods), I am 37, got results for each baby - 1:5000, and 1:3500. A lot lower than with my first two babies, but still well within comfort zone so didn't have any other tests. I had read (on the internet) that the results of tests for twins are less accurate but the hospital didn't know about this. Good luck x

Same as beaches, I had the combined test on both sets, and both different.

First they scanned to see if they share a placenta (they did for me, not sure if it was same for everyone)

If they're non-identical, they test for individual risks. Just because they're twins doesn't mean they don't have different health concerns, so if one doesn't have Downs, that doesn't mean the other hasn't either.

However, if they're identical (share a placenta) they will either both have Down's syndrome, or they will both be unaffected, so in the case of identical twins (like my first set) they give the risk of the pregnancy.

Hope that's helpful.
