Have any of you come across Mixed Media Watch ? I signed up for their email newsletter recently and it's a fascinating way to keep up with mixed-race issues in the news. For example, the email I received today included the following stories:

  • Hate Crime in Long Island, NY Targets Mixed Families
  • UK Scientist: Mixed People ?More Beautiful?
  • Biracial Murder Convict to Be Executed This Week

(It's US-based but includes some UK stories.)

Hi Yingers, happy xmas to you too!

MMW "works to promote more realistic, three-dimensional portrayals of mixed race people, couples and families in the media." Basically they keep an eye on how mixed-race people & relationships are portrayed, so there's a range of stories (as you'll see from my first post). There's an interesting one on the website at the moment about how more and more mixed-race families are appearing in advertising, without comment, which has to be a good thing.

Above all, it makes you think about the way we're represented - good and bad.
