Hello,

I joined Mumsnet today and would love to join in a bookswap if anyone has a space?

I love to read, anything and everything, and commuting to work 3 days a week means i get 25 mins each way to bury myself in a book.

I think I get the gist of how this works and would love to join a group if there is a space anywhere....

Many thanks
K

Hi Kallie, it looks like they are all "full" but maybe we could start a new one! Am not completely sure how it works but think we need 12 people so hopefully some more will sign up.

Can you change your title to something like 'Starting New Book Swap - join in here!' or similar?

Hopefully some more people will sign up!

Hi all,

I'd be keen to join a new group so that makes 4. I'm trying not to spend so much money on books so this sounds like a fantastic idea.

Hello ladies, I am also a book-lover and this may well force me to make the time again. Since having my first dd it is one of the things that has tended to be neglected a bit. So can I join too? I guess I would make number 7?

OK well I guess if everyone is still in, that makes 9 now, so just need three more people?

Hi
I'd like to join too please.
I had my first baby on Boxing day 2009 so reading is my little treat where I get some peace and quiet!
I do read a lot of chick lit books but I do have the odd other sort and I'd like to try some different books.
Does that make 10 now?

How does it work? If someone can explain to me I'll join. I just gave a load of books to the charity shop and I buy them a bit compulsively, although I can't afford it any more.

Hi Besom

If you follow the link by mudandroses above that explains it all. I haven't done this before, but it looks fairly straightforward. Does that mean we have 11 then?

Besom · 21/04/2010 12:55

Ok thanks. So you get a book through the post every month and post one yourself? I can cope with that, looks like a good idea.

Maybe we should start a thread saying 'one more person needed'?

theslumbertaker · 21/04/2010 17:46

good idea - will do...

Is that it... do we have enough? hopping from leg to leg in excitement

Looks like that's a yes! Great. So do we now need to decide who is going to post to who, and whether we want to exclude any particular genres?

Ps. sorry don't mean to have taken over this thread, just quite keen to get this up and running

Report
Besom · 22/04/2010 06:41

We need to keep bumping as well to see if the others are still around.

I don't have an objection to any particular genres that I can think of.

Report
pinksupergirl · 22/04/2010 14:22

Hi
I'm still around. Do we need to call ourselves something so that when we want to contact fellow members we can put that in the title? I think that's what the other swap groups do from what I can gather. Any ideas for a name anyone?
I'm also not too bothered about excluding any genres although I would like to add that most of my books are fairly chick lit but I will try to vary them as much as possible as I assume that's kind of the idea if you post to the same person every month?

Report
nowit · 22/04/2010 14:54

I like pretty much anything and have quite a range of books, maybe find a name for us and the sort out who is with who and then chat to that person about genres etc? oh tis exciting

Having a complete lapse of imagination trying to think of a name. I also have quite a lot of different books, but I'm afraid to say chick lit is definitely one genre I don't really enjoy much sorry pinksupergirl...

So now we just need to wait and see if the other posters are still around?

Hi everyone

How about the Page Turners?

I don't think it's a great name, mind, but all I can think of tonight since my brain has been totally stultified by listening to the leaders' debate

I think, generally, we suggest 3/4 books each which can be vetoed if they've already been read and then you just send one to the person in the list below you?

My list:
Beyond Black - Hilary Mantel (dark, wry and meaty)
The Point of Rescue - Sophie Hannah (intelligent crime thriller)
The Little Stranger - Sarah Waters (atmospheric, creepy period story)
Home - Marilynne Robinson (heart-wrending but brilliant)
