I loved it. I wouldn't have chosen it for myself - but it shows you how silly I am. It's a really lovely, tender novel about a man's relationship with his dead wife - and her dog.

I didn't cry - but I think some of you might.

I loved it too. I associated with Lexy a lot, having been on and off with depression for most of my life, and knowing that feeling of it being an option and a moment Wearing the mask of a happy woman rang so true

Yes - I felt I understood Lexy too. The only thing I didn't like was a woman author writing from the man's perspective. It's something that spoils a book for me. Daft I know. I feel the same about a man writing as a woman. Apart from that - good! Thanks EPPM - and I did have a little weep!

I also loved it. No tears here but the description of dog J is going to stay with me for alot longer than I would like.

Another fan here. I felt so sad for Lexy that she felt she couldn't have children because of her depressions/mood swings. By her standards I definitely shouldn't have had them! I thought that trying to coax the truth about her from the dog was a powerful metaphor for the difficulty of communicating with the mentally ill, and the wrong-headed way that people can go about it. But it was redemptive that he understands what happened in the end because of the message from her, not through the dog, nor the psychic, and that the message had been there all along.

loved it too and read it very quickly - it's the best I've had so far this year from the bok circle. Found myself looking at my lazy lurcher with interest adn then actaully being glad that he can't talk cos if you think of the practicalities and the likely content of his concerns it'd be just anothr living creature in my house making demands!
I recently read The LAst Family in England, which you may enjoy if you enjoyed this. It's also about dogs and centres around the Labrador pact and why springers are bad for the world! Actually it's really about relaitonships and loyalties and duty and love but was a nice read

A very unusual book which I enjoyed reading as a change. I'm not a "dog person" so some of it may have been lost on me! But the unfolding mystery of Lexi, as a person as well as the details of her death, was moving and gripping.
