two miscarriages, advice on testing please..

Hi. Has anyone paid to have the basic blood tests done for recurring miscarriages? I've had 2 MCs in past year, and am desperate to start trying again. I'll be 40 this year, and the thought of having another MC when something like taking half an aspirin would avoid it, is more than I can bear. My doctor is being particularly unhelpful, and doesn't fill me with any confidence (yes, I'm going to change doctors!) and when I enquired to a private company about tests, the woman was really kind, but advised me to try and get a private consultation at St Mary's (my hospital). Has anyone had a private consultation at St Mary's, and if so, how long did it take, and was it expensive? The private company have said they will do the tests if that's what I want, but I'm struggling between taking her advice, and getting the tests asap..patience is hard at this stage!

I am so sorry you have had to go through two mc's.

There are a few of us who are going through the same, Lunatic especially as she is currently going through the testing at St Mary's and mumatron has paid for some of her tests privately but she is in wales.

Hi akensal i was in your postition last year and felt just the same. I had two miscarriages in the space of four months (no children) all in the first trimester. I went through all manner of feelings including the what the hell is wrong with my or my husband's body! My Doctor was sympathetic but not particularly helpful at first, it took me to break down and say to him exactly how bad i felt before he would do anything. I explained that the losses were affecting my everyday life and that i couldn't concentrate on anything else, i also said how i was too scared to try again before any tests. In the end he did a blood test for what he said was the main cause of early miscarriages it was

sorry computer problems. The blood test was for antiphospholipid which is something detected in your blood, sorry can't be more specific, you'll have to research it. When that came back negative me and my husband went to see a private consultant my gp ref us. I'm with HSA so claimed the fee back too. The private consultant also didn't think we had anything to worry about and said he didn't feel that chromosome testing was needed. He said if anything he would recomend further blood tests for thrombaphillia and thryroid as well as an ultrasound to check ovaries. I then went back to my Doctor who again didn't think we should pursue anything again i persevered and said i really wanted them down he finally relented and i had the tests and the ultrasound done. The Doctor said all along that two miscarriages is not indicative of future problems and told us to try again and not to still stress. All my tests came back negative and we did try again and fell pregnant straight away that was in November i am still pregnant now (touch wood. I am 24 weeks now and still worry but have been told that things are okay.

Sorry for waffling on just remember feeling the way you did after my last loss so wanted to share my story. Keep nagging your Doctor if you say how much it's affecting you then tey should let you have some tests, wishing you all the luck in the world.
