Still bleeding 4 weeks on ..........

Hi
at my wits end trying to figure out what is going on with my body. Had a second mc 4 weeks ago, this time at 13 +4 weeks, although baby had stopped growing at around 8 weeks. (first mc at 6 weeks, last Sep, natural) Chose to opt for hospital route and had evac this time. All went ok, staff great, etc.. normal feelings weepy, short-tempered, etc.. After two days the bleeding eased, then it seemed to get heavier again, carried on for another 2 weeks before going to gp. Diagnosed with an infection (which I had suspected from when I was pregnant), put on two antibiotics for two weeks. Continued to take them although test for inf. came back negative. Antibiotics led to really bad thrush, treated that as soon as antibiotics finished.
Have bled throughout all this, blood has now turned brighter, think I am actually having a period now, but am so tired! Is this normal?
Thought the op. was the best route? Anyone else experienced this?
Also, just started last week baby aspirin that cons. recommended, and back on pregnacare plus after antib.

What a nightmare. I really feel for you and am so sorry for your losses. I had a similar problem with non-stop bleeding for weeks; the only difference being that I had a natural mc as opposed to an ERPC, so cannot really advise as to whether that option is any better. I'm assuming you recovered fairly quickly from your natural mc.

It could be that your body is just struggling to recover after a fair amount of trauma in quick succession. I doubt you're having a period if you haven't stopped bleeding yet, as it generally takes a minimum of 4 weeks for the lining to rebuild and your hormones to settle down. Unfortunately, thrush is a very common side affect of antibiotics - just another burden to bear at an already difficult time.

You could always request a follow up ultrasound to check that there are no retained products in your womb. Might help to put your mind at ease if nothing else. It might also be a good idea to get a blood test to check you aren't anaemic. This could be why you are so tired, but I remember being very tired for a good month or more after my mc. I think it's to be expected when your hormones are going haywire. I really hope you recover soon. Endless bleeding and feeling generally rubbish is not very helpful in terms of getting over your loss.

I sympathise as I'm going through much the same thing although my ERPC was only 2 weeks ago. The bleeding stopped for several days, then I developed an infection and was put on 2 lots of antibiotics and then the bleeding restarted last Thursday (ie 6 days after the op). I went back to the EPU today after speaking to them on the phone and they re-scanned me and found a clot. I was given the option to wait 2 weeks and see if it passes by itself or have another ERPC. I've chosen to wait even though emotionally its much harder and I may still need an ERPC if it hasn't gone in 2 weeks.

TBH I would bypass the GP and go straight to EPU if you can. They should re-scan you to check what is going on. The bleeding should stop within a few days and any longer than a week should be checked out. It can't be your period because you need to have several weeks of no bleeding.

OP is right, you may well be anaemic, especially given you've had an op and are still bleeding. My trip to A&E with my infection also found that I was anaemic and I'm on iron now. I do feel much better though.

I hope you get some answers and the bleeding stops soon. Its rubbish when you just want to move on.
